Royal Hotel San Marco Rated 4* hotel henced we booked it. Online photos look great, classic Venetian, but are deceiving. Could just pass as 3*. Room is gloomy & depressing, wall paper had holes, overhead wall paper had stain of condensation and room upholstery are tattered and worn out. Hallways are gloomy, carpet looked dirty. We were given an adjoining room and door isn’t sound proof. After a busy enjoyable however tiring day from touring Venice one would want to have a restful relaxing sleep but it wasn’t as every noise next door made was loud enough not to grant you a wink! We requested and got moved to another room but not equivalent to what we paid for. It was a downgrade room. Everyday hot meal breakfast were limited to just egg & bacon. I would not ever want to come back to this hotel nor would i recommend it. The staff from reception, breakfast room crew to cleaners do their best and i commend them. Senior management only seem to rake money and earnings without even investing into upgrading the hotel to modernise it to changes of time without losing the Venetian Theme.
