I opened a 13 month cd in Santander

I opened a 13 month cd in Santander. When my grace period came to close it I Unfortunately got there a couple days after the grace period ended. The person that I worked with never explained to me that they were going to take $2100 of my interest that I earned a year before on a fully matured cd, because the grace period was over. I explained to her when I was there that I was going to get a different CD in a different bank because they were giving a higher rate at that time. There's no way in this world that I would have taken it out of there. If she told me, I was going to lose a bunch of money. Six months of interest is what they took, and that's what happened, I will never do business with them again. When I told my banker at Wells Fargo, what happened he explained that his bank shows you right on the computer exactly what your penalty is going to be so you will know exactly what's going on. I feel like Santander bank robbed me of $2100.

I'd give no stars if I could

I'd give no stars if I could. Refused to cancel my mother's credit card after she died claiming there was a balance due (their £3 / month fee) - and despite having a DD mandate in place to clear any balance. 3 months on, several phone calls and £9 in fees (it's the principle, not the amount) and still no closer to the card being cancelled.

One star is too many, possible fraud.

The below all happened while during or preparing for travel. I am enraged.

1. A suppport agent in a phone room gave me a number for tech support - 877 768 3265. This number was a medicare scam asking me my age and promising me free medical devices.

2. A local ATM machine blazing the name SANTANDER, is out of order. The woman in the local branch said that santander has no resposibility for that machine.

3. The app doesn't recognize my face or my log in that I used 8 days ago. (I don't type, my devices store all my log in information)

4. The actual website says my log in that I used 8 days ago has expired.

5. The employees that I spoke to refused to take any responsiblility for anything related to this bank.

6. On June 8th 2026 when I told a representative at my local bank, that I could not come into the bank, I quote her "find another bank."

I am so disgusted with this bank

I am so disgusted with this bank. I made a payment on my mortgage and they made a duplicate payment. Leaving me broke and my account overdrawn. Called and spoke to a so called ‘supervisor’ who was very rude and I had to disconnect the call with her. Called back and spoke to someone else who was helpful. The bank made the mistake but yet I have to wait 45 days for a resolution. This is not the first issue with this bank, but this definitely put the icing on the cake. As soon as this is resolved I will be closing my account. Don’t walk from Santander run or even sprint if you can.

My experience with Santander Bank

I am writing to formally express my disappointment regarding a recent experience with my account.

I have been a loyal client with Santander Bank since 2010. Throughout these sixteen years, I have consistently paid my monthly balances in full and on time. Recently, while traveling abroad, I inadvertently missed a single payment, resulting in a $40 late fee.

I contacted customer service to request a waiver of this fee given my long-standing history with the bank; however, my request was denied. I find this lack of flexibility discouraging, as it does not reflect a commitment to long-term customer loyalty.

As a result of this experience, I have decided to cease my relationship with Santander Bank. I will not be recommending your services to others.

Withholding funds paid to me by my…

Withholding funds paid to me by my solicitor. Told they would clear in 2 hrs, they didn't so I went to branch and was told it was with the frauds team (no explanation why, it clearly came from my solicitor) told I would get a call in another 2 hours, I didn't. Rang the bank to speak to the fraud team, was told that the person I was speaking to could deal with it and they had no way of contacting the people that did other than an email. Now waiting another 2 hours. Given that it was a substantial payment it will not be staying in an account with Santander. They even had a board promoting nationwide as a superior bank. We will be taking santander advice on that front and moving on Monday morning. Instead of spending money on ant and Dec, trying spending money on a decent governance framework that delivers the responsive service you promise customers.

Been with this bank for a car loan…

Been with this bank for a car loan since 2023
Been paying on time every month, deferred a couple payments with a fee (understandable) Been consistently paying early on the Monday of payment coming out (Friday) Went smoothly, until I premade a payment on Wednesday as I have done in the past and email them letting them know so they don't take out that other payment. This has never been a problem. Now because I made an early payment and the lady didn't know what she was doing I am getting charged a NSF fee for them taking out again.... Of $75 normally I wouldn't complain but because they are taking out my bank will charge $25 and they charge $75 like are you kidding me. So, because I was being diligent made an early payment and let them know as I always have I am getting charged more???????? Stay clear of this bank and there insanely HIGH interest rates... At this rate I will NEVER get out of this loan

Made a personal call to the lady who set up our joint investment account a year ago , asked for an update and overview of our investment, no response , so after over three weeks rang our local branch, got a call back from customer service, response was to transfer me to investment section, surprise , surprise the line went silent then dead , very poor service, if they don’t want to bother with my modest investment , that’s fine , I know a guy at St. James Place who does.

DO NOT USE THESE.

DO NOT USE THESE.
If I could give ZERO then I would.
I’ve been waiting over 4 weeks for a simple porting of my mortgage as they told me supposedly.
I’ve had to scan about 20 things over and even after that they don’t contact me back.
I’ve chased and chased and chased.
Managers won’t speak to you.
The underwriters basically can do what they want as slowly as they want as no one can speak to a manager to get anything done.
Nearly 5 weeks I’ve been waiting for an answer, I’m being chased by solicitors, by estate agents, I’m holding up a chain and all they can say after an hour on the phone is you cannot speak to a manager as that’s not how we work and I can put a note and someone will come back to you within 2 WORKING DAYS!!!!
They are absolutely useless.
DO NOT USE!!!!!!

Robbed me of $3k

I honestly don’t know what to say, besides stay away from this company. I made a $3200 payment on my car, due to having to be in the hospital, I didn’t want to lose my car. I told them what the money was for. Instead of adding the $3200 to my payment so I didn’t owe for 2 months, they decided to use it to pay some of the car off. Now I’m stuck, coming up with $900 while also trying to get a new heart and liver. I feel robbed, I feel mad an I wish I never got the loan for my car from them. 0/10 recommend. I will do something about it and won’t shut up until it’s resolved

BEST BANK ACCOUNT TO HAVE 🗣️

I HAVE HIGH STANDARDS AND KEEP TO MYSELF AND CONSIDER MYSELF A NORMAL HUMAN BEING and... Santander has always been there for me, since Day 1, when I was just a naive high school student. They were strongly recommended to me firstly by my school for being supportive of students who are looking to grow into the successful world. THIS BANK HAS MY TRUST. Seriously. And not only that, but Santander has never not had an unprofessional and unhelping unsympathetic worker in their bank system. They are always upright in terms of their work drive and ethics. May God bless them all! They've got my vote! Oh also I've always been able tot trust them. Great reasonable overdraft policies! DONT HESITATE. JOIN THEM NOW! You are in good hands. Trust me they know how to compromise with all things out there. 💯!✨

Stay away from this bank if you need your money

To make a transfer from Santander to my other bank, had to call them and they ask the same questions over and over again! Why??? This sooo anoying, who has time to be on the phone dealing with this? I can see the reviews, and everyone already said everything else i am thinking. We are in 2026 and there far better Banks online that are much easier to use like Revolut, Monzo, Starling.

Don’t listen with comprehension

These people do not know how to do business. They don’t listen. And when they do listen, they don’t listen with comprehension. My cat payment is only $312 but I pay $500 month. They said I was late in April because I paid two payments in March of $500 so that I would be ahead just in case I had an incident where I couldn’t pay one month. They applied it to the principal instead. So I called and it took two weeks for them to fix it. So now, I logged in May 20th and it showed I didn’t owe anything. I screenshotted it. I also checked yesterday May 21st (my due date) and again it showed I owe nothing so I screenshotted it. Today I check and it says I’m late for $125. So I called. 20 minutes later, the representative isn’t listening with comprehension. Had to ask 5 tiles to speak to a supervisor which more I’m supposedly waiting another 20 minutes do fast for one. Worst customer service ever. Buyers beware

Know Your Customer.

Over the last few years my company has been harassed by Santander. Whenever I receive an email from them "we need some important information from you", not only does my heart sink, but I know that I'm in for weeks of repetitive nonsense while unintelligible robotic people bring me close to a coronary. All in the name of KYO (know your customer). But why do they keep asking me the same questions over and over? Didn't they believe me last time? And why do they keep coming back to me for no good reason when they have another 4.3 million business customers to go at?
This maverick section of Santander never give a reason because they don't know what they are doing beyond robotic questions. They do have the power to mess a business up by suspending accounts, even if its them that made a mistake. Apparently they got themselves into the manure a few years ago and were heavily fined.
Now they use AI and algorithms to select their victims for meaningless compliance. Its all about going through the motions with easy targets so they can make out they are doing something.
I notice that Santander's rating is 1.5 compared to Barclays 4, so a change is overdue.
