Low quality education

I chose to study the master's of Innovative Textile Development. Many teachers didn't teach and just read from the PowerPoint. They said the master's students should do their own research, find out everything. Ofc, we did. However, we paid for the school so that we got some guidance, not an irresponsible attitude, and the teachers did nothing. As students, we don't have enough connections with companies, especially in the innovative field, and they don't support students in giving us some names of companies. 1 star is generous to them. I read other reviews. I knew they were true because I had the same experience. Teachers are of low quality, also. They asked irrelevant/ ambiguous questions in the defense and gave students low grades without reasonable explanations, which did not align with the evaluation form. Even one company asked me if your teacher didn't guide you anything. I said no, he didn't. This programme should be stopped because they don't have qualified teachers. Actually, they're researchers who are forced to be teachers. Maybe they're good researchers, but terrible teachers who don't want to work. Finally, I quit. I'm from Romania. Such a waste of time and money! They provide low quality education service. It’s a scam!

Please go somewhere else

Well, I'm from Creative Media and Game Technologies and I thought it would be 50/50 (game dev and creative media at least).

As a person who came with a goal to become a creative designer I thought the course would suit me well because it seemed like it has a lot of digital media courses. However, 80% is game dev... I hated all 3D and 2D courses which are the most mentally draining and time consuming if you are not interested in game dev.

You never go in depth with what you learn, just pretty much basics that you can learn from an online course. All the teachers do is reading from the already prepared presentation and tell you to watch tutorials on Youtube. It is very frustrating especially to a non-EU student who pays more than 8000 euros each year just to be told to google stuff. There is also a lot of documentation that is not necessary. You just spend so much time in documenting everything rather than doing something.

Most teachers are not knowledgeable and have no teaching skills. Only few are good.

If you want a normal education, go somewhere else. Don't waist your money, time and mental health

Terrible "school", their focus is on having as many lingering students so they can profit. No educational purposes.

Terrible school. Teachers are incapable and have very specific expectations that never align with the real world. Shouldn't be allowed to call themselves a "university" at all. One part of a giant project wasn't handed in, so the teachers responsible for this class decided not to look at any parts of the project. I explicitly asked them for feedback and they sent me a feedback form of a completely unrelated subject of other students..
This school will drain your mental health and will to live like you've never experienced before, and when you try to work with them they will make you feel like you're undeserving of a degree(after passing every class except one) :)

Bad "University" they always expect…

Bad "University" they always expect student to adapt to their poor organization and they have all these crazy expectations ,acting like the tuition is for free. And the so called amazing practice you do it's just a bunch of group work and silly games ...pathetic if I could go back i would've never enrolled in this university.

Saxion - CMGT - Creative Media and Game Technologeies - 2.5/5

TLDR: I only recommend the CMGT course to someone who is already disciplined to REALLY study the gaming topic they are interested in outside the dedicated time for the university. If you are looking for a course that makes you "game industry ready" look elsewhere.

I finished the CMGT (Creative Media and Game Technologies) course as an artist in 2022. I went to Saxion (Enschede) with the dream of becoming a concept artist for video games (as advertised on the official website), after 4 years and €10000 dept I can say that I would have gotten the same knowledge out of top €1000 in relevant courses. A lot of the topics we went through are just "oh that's interesting to know, so when can I learn to draw concept art?". There was a lack of focus for artist in general (2D and 3D), you never get deep into any topic and most things except the bare basics are for you to learn in your own time.
In addition, the amount of actual gaming projects is laughable for a course that advertises itself as gaming focused.
But there were good things, even great things. The fellow students were very great partners and the teachers are knowledgeable and easy going. There is a very low focus on "memorize this and write it down" type test. 95% of the (art) grades are project based, meaning you create something (concepts, prototypes etc.) with other CMGT students (Other branches of CMGT are programmer and designer).
Enschede itself is a great city to life in, with more than enough places to visit to fill the years with activities. In the last 2 years the students focus on larger projects, and for me, it was the case that the actual document that will be uploaded is much, much more important than the actual product we create. This was very frustrating because as an artist, I want to make things, not write documents all day.
I would only recommend the CMGT to someone that is:

1) In need of a guided education about the basics of game making (equivalent of easy to get courses online) but more expensive of course

2) Interested in living in the Netherlands and experiencing the culture

3) Looking for an "easy" bachelor that can be obtained if you put in a bit of effort

4) A hardworking individual that does the bachelor on the side while advancing in their own domain of interest.

Afterword: At the end of my study, I was so removed from what I actually wanted to learn that I could not advance professionally in the field I wanted to work in (concept art). Instead, I learned some things about UI design, which to be honest is a topic I really don't care about.

**Important Note: The last 2 years of my studies were impacted by the covid pandemic.

This is the worst place to go saxion, avoid it

This is the worst place to go. Half the time they just read out slides to you. They hand out pdf assignments without showing you anything similar to these assignments. They tell students go learn it yourself online. They dont take your complains seriously and in the end they tell you to leave college or be removed if you are not happy with teacher methods. Skip this college, save your money, go somewhere else. saxion hochschool is not college, its a joke.
