Great location - more attention to detail would help

My husband and I stayed for six nights on a TUI package in “junior suite” 4049. Our experience was good, though there were some lapses of detail which were disappointing in a four-star rated hotel.

The central location is excellent for sightseeing in Berlin, with Mendelssohn-Bartholdy-Park metro station (line U2) next door.

The bed was comfortable. I found the radiused (curved) corners to the furniture gimmicky and unfunctional, demanding attention to avoid dropping small items off the edges onto the floor. The air conditioning generally coped well with very hot weather, though a couple of degrees cooler would have been nice in the very hottest phase.

We chose the “alternate days” option for room servicing, so this should have been done on days 2 and 4. The suite was not serviced at all during our stay. Cleanliness was impeccable when we arrived.

Breakfast options were generally good, though on one morning the hash brown potatoes were an unappetising mush rather than crisp and separate. Personally I find juicing machines pretentious and time-consuming. The ready-squeezed juice had a slightly synthetic taste. The breakfast sparkling wine was rather flat, even from a fresh bottle.

There was a spurious incident on check-out. The staffer alleged that “two credit card transactions had been declined”. This was impossible, as at no time did we tender a credit card at the hotel. Fortunately a manager immediately over-ruled the allegation, but this was a moment of unnecessary stress.

Aesthetics are of course a matter of personal taste, but I find the beige/magnolia/cream/off-white scheme dreary and not very durable. The corridor carpets have a bizarre pattern, apparently designed to conceal all dirt!

Overall, staff were courteous and pleasant. I would recommend the hotel, but attention to these matters of detail would boost it to a truly four-star experience.

No pets in hotel other than in your room.

Nice hotel but not pet friendly. Pets are not allowed in other areas then outside or in your room. You can’t use the restaurant for breakfast. I don’t question the hotel policy, but it should be informed in the marketing materials.

Staff stealing lost luggage

After checkout, I discovered I had left some clothe in the closet. My fault of course, but I contacted the hotel to find a solution to get the lost clothe shipped to me (I already left Germany). They told me to send them an email for my enquiry, which I did.
2 days later... no respond.
I send another email and got a response the day after saying they would ask the housekeeping staff.
Next response was, they didn't find anything in the room.
I asked them to look again, because I know for sure it was left in the closet. But again the answer was the same. The housekeeping staff didn't find anything.

My assumption to this, is that the housekeeping staff picked up up and stole the clothes instead of turning it in, - and no one from the staff cares about the problem.

I already payed for the stay and I already left the hotel, so why should they bother to give me a good service.

I've stayed in different Scandic Hotels in different countries many times, but one thing is for sure now. I will never come back.
And the service provided by Scandic Potsdamer Platz is the worst experience ever. Amateurs!

SO CALL A PLUMBER!!! (+ the receptionist is a drama-queen).

At check in I was asked if I’d like to upgrade for 20 Euro to get a room with a view. I declined since I’ve already prepaid and selected ‘high in the building’ when booking.
The room was nice but the drain in the sink did not work. The water simply did not run out. I called the reception and they promised to fix it. We went out to eat and after returning 3 hours later the water had not run out yet. I went back into the reception and the lady told me that "I had to understand that the hotels maintenance staff did not work on sundays" (What?!?). I said that I just wanted a room where the basic facilities worked and that the hotel could have been prepared for receiving guests when they received money. So her ‘solution’ was that we should pack everything and bring all our luggage down to the reception, 23:30 at night, and then she "might be able" to get us another room "somewhere". Probably two floors down. Like she wanted to punish me for bringing to her attention that the hotels plumbing was defect.
I asked if I could see the room first, and suggested that she'd find a room on the same floor, give me the room key so I could transfer my luggage (myself...) as easy as possible for me.
She looked annoyed with my more easy and practical idea and suddenly found a room on the same floor. She never offered help with moving from the defect room nor apologized for the error that she’d earlier neglected.
I went to the room and it was much smaller and the bathroom had a shower cabin instead of the first one that had a tub.
I went down to the reception again and asked how much I’d receive in compensation for the downgrade.
Her angry answer was that the two rooms were “same category”. A direct lie.
I can't beleive that someone would hire a person with so little practical experience as the: "you must bring down all the luggage to the reception" command indicated.
So a rude, greedy, lying and I am sorry to say: stupid receptionist is what to expect.
You have been warned.
Also the new room wasn't prepared: Dirty towels and a note from the former guest was lying on the table.
-oh, and the aircon didn't really work either...
At checkout I was asked if I had used their parking. Well... I MIGHT have used that, if only they had told me about at check in...

Breakfast was great though.

Impolite

Impolite, unprofessional staff who seems not to care regarding issues and opens a discussion when faults are pointed out. Previous guests hair in the bathroom and lack of parking even though it’s offered on the website.
Definitely not recommended.
