Incompetent and expensive

Scanlans is managing the building I have a flat in. They do a terrible job, unhelpful, unresponsive, and very little organisational transparency.
Never clear where your money is going or what services are actually being provided.
Chloe Kennedy is consistently unavailable and unsure of what is going on.

Great professional block manager

As an experienced contractor who has dealt with multiple management companies, Scanlans and Nicola have been a real pleasure to deal with.
Nicola will listen to professional advice and determine what is best for the block and situation. I am always happy to go out of my way to sort issues for Nicola and her blocks.
Would recommend Nicola and Scanlans to anyone looking for a new management company to take
over there management of a block!!

Nicola Hall

Nicola from Scanlans has been of most help to us over the last couple of months since taking on our property building from previous management company.

Everything we have asked her has been actioned, any correspondence needed she has has been kind and efficient.

We recently had a leak in our roof and this has been completed in a timely manner as actioned from her. Her responses are always on the day.

Always professional and so helpful.

We have had more actions from this company than ever before with the 2 previous.

Very grateful for them overseeing us and always there when we need them.

Thankyou Nicola and her team!

We are most fortunate to have Susana Romao as our contact at Scanlans. On 5th October ahead of our AGM she made time to undertake a site visit and more fully understand present concerns and problems on the development. She proved an excellent Chair at our AGM in both allowing people to raise points most important to them but keeping proper control of the meeting. In day to day matters we have found Susana to be most receptive and helpful - particularly when called upon to deal with one or two recent emergencies.

Despicable Service

Scanlans are an extremely unprofessional, incompetent company whose service as property managers is not even worthy of 1 star.

I have lived in my apartment for just over two years and from the outset complained about the appalling level of service provided and the ongoing breaches of the Lease.

Every aspect of the communal areas, both interior and exterior, is neglected and fallen into a despicable state of disrepair.

In the two years the service charge has increased by over 30% to almost £140 monthly with nothing, or very little repair or maintenance, being done.

The carpet, which is almost 20 years old, has extensive black staining on every stair and on landing and the metal stair strips are black with rust; the walls are covered with black marks, chips and scuffs; the wood work around doors is rotten with all paint totally worn off; the car park is covered in debris and moss; there are no shrubs in borders and bark is in many areas very thin or non existent; the patio is covered in debris with weeds along borders and dirty slabs that are never swept or cleaned; the driveway is filthy, covered with a black stain; the doors to meter boxes have completely fallen off; windows are dirty and not cleaned all year. I could go on …

In response to my complaints Scanlans continually make assurances that they are going to review any maintenance or repairs to be actioned, or mostly deny that there is a need for any improvements, arguing that the severely neglected areas are ‘acceptable’.

It is like banging your head against a brick wall trying to communicate with such an indifferent company whilst being subjected to living in slum conditions.

If I had known what Scanlans were like I would never have purchased a property allegedly ‘managed’ by them and would advise anyone to avoid this company at all costs. The experience has been highly stressful and my only desire is to sell up and move out.

Their behaviour, ineptness and lack of accountability is nothing short of criminal.

Scanlans has been very helpful to me

As an investor, I have had experience of several Management Companies over a long period of time and, without doubt, the service I received from Alex Normand of Scanlans in Manchester has been outstanding. She always replies fully and promptly and nothing is too much trouble. Life can be stressful dealing with tenants and property matters but Alex has made my life so much easier.

High profits and minimal work done!

Scanlans manage the building I live in and I have got to say they are the most inept and arrogant company I've ever dealt with. It's a large tower block with floor to ceiling windows, so how often do we get the windows cleaned? Once a year at best!

Communal areas have deteriorated steadily over the last five years: dirty carpets, walls marked and stained, water ingress from the roof. The courtyard outside is a deathtrap when it rains, but Scanlans refuse to clean it.

There has been a 50% rise in service charge over the last three years, and the level of service has gone down!

Agency staff who are employed by Scanlans are a joke, they sit and play on their phones all day whilst the agency who supply them to Scanlans is ran by Scanlans!

The partners of this company are vile people!

Waste of time

I have a maintenance issue for coming up to 3 years that i have been given excuse after excuse for the job not being done. I pay my maintenance charges in full on time, which i have seen an increase of £100 a quarter in that time. There has been 2 maintenance managers that i have dealt with and both have been of no help at all. What are they paid to do ?

What exactly are we paying for ? If i withheld my maintenance charges they would be on to my in a flash. This company is a waste of time.

A 'star' at Scanlans Birmingham.

Having had experienced the 'services' of a number of Property Management companies over recent years my expectations were somewhat limited. However, a particular member of staff at Scanlans in the Birmingham area really stands out. She is highly efficient, diligent, reliable and intelligent in her decision making with regards to how best to look after the building and those who live in it. She has risen admirably to every challenge and there have been quite a few! I have not mentioned her name as per the guidelines for writing a review but I will happily elaborate if asked by the Scanlans senior management team.

Disappointed but not surprised

I have lived in a property for 5 years where Scanlans are the management company.

The only good point is that the communal garden is looked after and regularly maintained but the service charge that we pay monthly seems expensive considering this seems to be the only benefit.

Since moving in, we have received high unexpected bills asking for extra money for the electric gates to be maintained, which we would expect to be part of the monthly service charge.

Residents also were fined for not displaying a ticket in their (or their visitors) vehicle when parked in their own cark park spaces. When discussing this with other residents, nobody had ever had an issue with someone else parking in their space and everyone felt that these fines were just another way for Scanlans to take more money. Scanlans only removed the fines when they were confronted with a piece of paper signed by every resident, claiming that it is ridiculous to be fined for parking in your own parking space, especially as a homeowner.

In addition to this, my household never received a new fob for the electric gates when these were sent out. We have been charged £50 for a new one, but when looking at this model online, the retail price is between £17-£25. I don't understand why it is double the price.

Despite paying the service charge, I'm left wondering when the next unexpected bill will arrive and why we seem be charged so much for receiving so little.

After looking for more information on Scanlans online the first two things I saw were: 1) Scanlans having a huge boost in annual revenue. 2) Scanlans failing to address concerns raised by multiple residents across different estates regarding fire and safety. It really doesn't look good and doesn't give me much confidence that this company cares for more than just getting more money.

Awful company

Awful company. Mismanaged and negligent. Failure to carry out even the most basic tasks, no routine maintenance. Allowed gutters to overfill by not removing leaves and debris, this caused irreparable damage to possessions and to my apartment. No assistance, out of hours team appalling. Service charge paid and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING back aside from having to replace possessions at considerable expense due to complete incompetence from Scanlan's. A bunch of thieving inept crooks that couldn’t even manage a wendy house.
Avoid them at all costs.
