Easy and professional service

It was a very easy streamlined process to pick up the car at Budapest airport. Service was friendly. The drop off was also very easy and efficient process. Unfortunately, There some scratch damages occurred during the rental period, but the process of evaluating the damage and damage bill was fair, fast and straighforward on return, and my third party full cover insurance refunded the full amount.

Rather take the bus

I rented a car from them in March, just for two days. When I took it back, two men came to check the car. They did it very thoroughly. They inspected every detail with a torch. They looked very desperate to find something while they were asking if I had insurance. (I didn’t buy insurance from them but I had my general travel insurance). They looked behind and around the wheels with the torch, actually it was a bit ridiculous. Finally they managed, found a scratch on the windscreen. It was weird but we were in a hurry to catch our flight and travelled with a sleeping one year old. So we were an easy target. I asked them what would happen, they said they didn’t know but the “guys” would decide. Whoever the guys were, they decided quickly. We weren’t even on the aircraft, I got the invoice for about 1000+€ and my card was charged. I can’t prove, hence I can’t state that the scratch wasn’t there, but I just got the feeling like the fellows with other one star comments.
Many write here that they didn't buy insurance from them but had one from a third party and they got charged for something. It looks like a pattern for me.
Well the “guys” were quick but the accountant not that much. They had reserved 1000€ as a deposit in the beginning but they charged me for the amount of the invoice. So my balance looked for a week like 1000€ reserved and 1000+€ taken. It was quite odd that they didn’t take the deposit and the rest of the invoice. They said that they had released the deposit immediately when they charged me, it must be my bank who keeps the money back. Well, I have rented a car many times, never taking longer to get the deposit back than a few hours. In contrast, I rented a car from another company (that's why I remembered this case and commented here). They just went around the car to see if there was any damage and released my deposit. It took 3 minutes. So no, I don’t believe that my bank kept the money back.
Anyway, I don’t recommend Schiller. Rather take the bus.

⭐ 1/5

⭐ 1/5 – Stay away!

I do not recommend Schiller Rent A Car at all – not to Israelis, locals, or any tourist in Hungary.

❌ Beware – they scam customers!
As many reviews mention, this company tricks people. The good reviews? Just luck.

✅ What happened to us:

We received the car with friendly service.

They photographed it from all angles – so did I.

They offered extra insurance, but we declined (we already had external coverage).

⚠ When returning the car:

Returned it to another branch.

Two staff members inspected it suspiciously.

Found a tiny, minor scratch – charged €455 from my deposit!

💡 My conclusion:
This isn’t one bad employee – it’s the company’s policy.
A money-hungry business that steals from its customers.
Do not rent from them – they are dangerous and will take your money.

Roland was excellent

Roland was excellent, I first met him a year prior on returns, this time he was at the checkout. Well spoken, clear and concise.

Scam Rental Location

As many mentioned here, this specific location has staff who scam the renters, we took a 360 Deg Video of the car before leaving the premises, when we returned the car they showed us "damage" below the bumper, this was clearly just mud that could be washed off, but they insisted it is damage and charged EUR 500, we had a 3rd party insurance, and I am sure this is the reason they scam people, as we did not take their over priced insurance. I do not know about other locations, but here there is definitely a lady who is a huge scammer.

Be aware! Schiller Rent a Car will scam you with fictitious damage claims!

Be aware! Schiller Rent a Car will scam you with fictitious damage claims!

I recently rented a car from Schiller Rent a Car during my trip to Hungary, and it was a nightmare. Upon returning the car, I was falsely accused of hail damage, and $1,397 was charged to my credit card, despite having video evidence showing the car was returned in perfect condition. The company's photos showed absolutely no damage. Their claim was ridiculous, as the supposed hail damage was only in a straight line above the windows and nowhere else on the car, which is absurd.

My elderly mother and girlfriend were treated poorly when they tried to discuss the issue with the agent on my behalf, who continuously interrupted them, preventing them to state the facts and refused to officially document their complaint.

This experience caused immense stress, not only for me but also for my elderly mother and girlfriend. It ruined what should have been a wonderful trip. I strongly advise against using Schiller Rent a Car due to their dishonest practices and terrible customer service.

Look no further for car hire

Look no further! It's about the 8th time I rented a car from Schiller, never ever a problem plus if they can they upgrade me to a better car. Never had issue with deposit, easy pick up and drop off-even out of normal time, like silly early hours -, receive it with a full tank and I drop it off with a full tank. Easy process, guys are helpful and the cars are in good condition. The amount of deposit is very reasonable and it is returned instantly. Great company👍

They charged us for Damage under the…

They charged us for Damage under the car that we didnt do !
we rented a car from Budapest Airport on thursday last week
they gave us the usual form with notice of a tiny scratch on the left side ( which we confirmed )
when we returned the car they claim we scratched under the bumper ( the lad was able to find this scratch in seconds of inspecting, he looked like he knew it was there )
he informed us that we must pay for the damage and to contact the main desk for the price
we had excess insurance so this wasn't a problem but just the principal of we hadn't done the damage . We explained that we would point out the damage if we had done it but we didn't
amazingly there were able to quote €417 immediately to fix the problem
I have hired cars all over the world and will not use this company again as i feel they were Dishonest in their claim that we scratched the car

everyone should be aware of them

DON'T !!!!Schiller Car Rental, Budapest

I recently rented a car from Schiller Car Rental in Budapest on August 29th, and my experience was less than satisfactory. The rental process itself was straightforward, although I found it unusual that I wasn’t offered the additional insurance that most car rental companies typically try to sell. Fortunately, I have car excess insurance, so I usually decline these offers anyway.

Upon receiving the keys, I was handed a printout noting existing damage on the vehicle—a slight scratch on the side. However, when I inspected the car, I couldn’t even see the scratch they mentioned. I rented the car for four days for a trip to the Lake Balaton area with two friends. The trip went smoothly, and we returned the car in the same condition as when we picked it up.

When I returned the car, the check-in process initially seemed routine. The attendant came out to inspect the car, and we couldn’t see any new marks or damage. However, things took a strange turn when the attendant suddenly got on the ground and began inspecting the underside of the car, which seemed highly unusual. He then claimed to have found a scratch under the front bumper—an area we had no reason to check and certainly didn’t damage.

We were shocked and knew this was not something we caused. It felt like a premeditated scam, especially since this was a location we would never think to inspect. Despite our objections, they charged my card €417 for the supposed damage.

Given that I have car excess insurance, the charge itself wasn’t the primary issue—it was the principle. This entire situation felt orchestrated, and I’m convinced this is a scam they are pulling on unsuspecting customers. I want to warn others: if you rent from Schiller Car Rental, be extremely thorough in your inspection. Check under the car, in obscure places, and anywhere else you wouldn’t typically think to look.

My experience with Schiller Car Rental was frustrating and disappointing. I strongly advise against renting from this company. If you do choose to rent from them, take extra precautions, or better yet, consider taking your business elsewhere.

Avoid them by all means!

Just have returned a car after a short rent. Got the car dirty inside and relatively full of scratches. When returned, they found an additional damage -underneath. No document received, nothing. They will charge this on me. Really unacceptable. Regret even considering them. Shame. Never choose them again.

UPDATE: after reading the rental contract again, thoroughly, I found that the damage in question was listed there. However, on the illustration, only 3 pieces were mentioned, with numbers 1, 4, and 5. Below that, in a table, there were also the other two damages... One of which was referring to broken parts underneath, due to a stuck on some object. Although I sent them the photos and a refusal of the charged amount, they left me without any answer, feedback whatsoever, but charged CHF 457.60 on the card, plus kept another HUF 360k as booked deposit. I made a police filing. Folks, avoid them by all means. Even if you provide evidence, they can do anything, you cannot control. Regarding the amount charged, no expert opinion, no insurance papers, nothing, they just sent an invoice ca 2 hours after the return, when I was already flying...

They are a scam!

This company is an obvious fraud. They attract customers with low rates and airport pickup, then they send you a 500 EUR bill for full front screen replacement with a photo of the back screen, a close up grainy phot of a chip the size of a fruit fly. This with a ready made invoice with expert opinion 5 hours after car was delivered on Sunday, Christmas day. There if of course nothing you can do.
AVOID THIS COMPANY.
