Product details

Brand: Seattle Pottery Supply

FIRING RANGE: CONE 4-5 (2134-2160º F) Wet color: gray/buff Firing color (in oxidation): silvery-gray with speckles Texture: slightly smooth (< 5% grog) Average shrinkage: 10.15%; average absorption 3% (+/- 2) 25 lb. block Back (to stay!) by popular demand... You asked, we answered! Our "limited release" Speckled Gray is back to stay! Based on our new Sea Mix 6 clay body, with added granular manganese and magnetite, it throws and builds with all the excellent qualities you'd expect from Sea Mix 6—just with a nice dispersal of brown freckles. This clay tightens up early in the firing process. It performs best at Cone 4, and fires to Cone 5 with off-gassing possible at hotter temps (similar to Fool's Gold or Eclipse). It is not recommended for Cone 6 or higher. Simple and fun to throw and sculpt, it's ideal for wheel throwing, hand building, and functional ware.

This may have been a mistake, but what a great one it was. I hope this clay goes into your regular line up. This clay just performs beautifully on the wheel. I love it.
