Account Opening Experience

I’m quite fond of the credit union values which is why I opened an account with Servus when I moved to Alberta. They have an option to open an account online which doesn’t seem to be working and keeps giving an error message without providing a reason so I was advised to attend the branch.
A few notes, the Financial Advsior that opened my account didn’t provide all options for a chequing and chose the account he wanted for me instead of asking what I preferred, I’m between the age of 17-25 and they have a free chequing if you’re in that age range so I let him know that I wanted that account instead of what he chose for me.
I also requested for an overdraft which I was approved for and was supposed to be completed that same day but it still hasn’t been applied so I will be following up.
The app is missing a lot of valuable features like locking your debit card and enabling notifications for deposits, not just transactions in general.
I do like their Member Contact Centre, they’re quite responsive.

I only rated this experience a 1 star…

I only rated this experience a 1 star as I was not able to select NO stars!!
SCU Harvest Pointe - Edmonton… if you want to take your money out in cash, they won’t let you, completely refused me because I told them they didn’t need to know why I wanted cash! They made all kinds of excuses, instead of asking members why they want their cash they should be asking themselves why they don’t want to give it😡
Not my experience in other branches, just this one…so far🥴

Servus Credit Union Mastercard Fees

So today, July 12, 2024 I received a email from Servus Credit Union advising me that the fees for my Mastercard are going up effective Sept. 1,2024 Thinking Ok, should not be a problem. WRONG!!!! Account Maintenance fee goes from $10 to $15/month, a 50% increase. Cash Advance Fee Canada goes from $2 to $5 per transaction, a 150% increase. There are other increase as well, like Cash like transactions that go from $0 to $7.50/per transaction. I mean were do they get off charging those kinds of increases??? Fraudulent???? Are they not governed by the Bank Act of Canada???? Needless to say I will be paying my card off as fast and possible and not use it again. Will find a card that appreciates my business without ripping me off!!!!! Tough pill to swallow for a Senior on a fixed income. Yet it is 2024 and we get the same greed as we got in the 80's.

Worst bank ever

Worst bank ever. They’re rude. Not at all how you expect a credit union to operate. They will lock your account randomly and cannot correct it. For instance .. I lived in Penticton BC for a short time. I used a service called Uride and they’d lock my card for days at a time - making it IMPOSSIBLE to get to work. This happened upwards of 20 times in 2 months (other times I walked/ rode my bike when it wasn’t raining, or too hot). And I would have to call in the morning and after my shift because it would be unlocked in the morning. Further they dismissed my account on general inquires about balance, payments, locking my cards in the USA, and a general frustration in regards to these issues. The most disrespectful thing I have EVER said to an employee (working for 10 years in customer service myself), was “does it make sense to lock a bank account that has youd like a payment from? Since nothing can be bolded, I want to make it clear THERE HAVE BEEN CUSTOMER SERVICE AND LEGAL PROBLEMS FOR YEARS. FURTHER, THIS BANK DOES NOT CARE AND I HAVE BEEN WITH THEM SINCE 2013 (THATS 2013- 2024),IN HOPES THAT THEY WOULD MAKE CHANGES AND AMMENDMENTS. This was a bank trusted by my family and they have done nothing but failed.

Good afternoon

Good afternoon. please pay attention to my review, the service is terrible in this bank, I have been registered with this bank as a business account since December 5, 2023, from that day until today, every day I correspond with the manager of this bank, I have a conversation with him 90 letters for which there are only promises, I cannot receive a check with my money, the amount is small, but for me it is money since I live alone with three children, I no longer have any income, and I do not have a master card. I earn money through hard work, and I can’t get them, and I also can’t get statements on the movement of my money.and I don’t see any receipts or account balances. I don't have a card. It's just a nightmare with this bank. The manager works every other day, sometimes from home, sometimes he has meetings. and so on for 2 months. No one except him at the bank can give me information since he is attached to me. when will all this end. Should I come to the bank with my children and live there? How should I pay for everything? and when will banks start working humanely? and also my employees have been unable to receive payment for their work on time 3 times already. although I send them the data to the bank 15 days before payment. I constantly ask that everything will be received on time, the answer is always “yes, yes, of course” and then the program starts, it freezes, doesn’t work, etc.

DO NOT get a mortgage with Servus

We had our mortgage through Servus, at our mortgage brokers suggestion. Unfortunately like much of the world right now, employment opportunities that pay a living wage, are not so easy to come by. After months of stress, and no work prospects in Alberta, we decided to look for work elsewhere. Luckily we found work, but it's not in Alberta. My partner contacted Servus regarding this, wondering what would happen with our mortgage. Long story short, we are penalized close to 3k because Servus does not operate where we are located.
This is on top of numerous times where the website didn't function properly, and being locked out of the account countless times.
I would strongly caution anyone working with Servus for their mortgage. You may think that you'll live somewhere for decades, but if you move, it will be another pile of cash to pay out to a multi- billion dollar company that doesn't care about your situation, or you.
My partner attempted to resolve this, plead our case etc, to no avail. They do not care.

Servus MasterCard to be dodged at all cost!

I opened a Servus bank account, and at the same time I was offered a MasterCard. Within the first payment cycle I had mistakenly transferred my monthly payments for mortgage, etc. of $8000 to the MasterCard instead of the bank account. My credit suffered because of the error (the bank account had insufficient funds) and MC had my $8000. It is now over 6+ months later and I am still being told by MC that they can only refund my money if I take cash advances and pay their service charges for their $2500 limit per transaction. Some type of financial institution and credit card - take the money and literally charge to get it back! This used to be the tired old plot of western movies where the bank robbers got away with murder...but now it's the "members" money they're getting away with and there's not even a forum other than here to complain. I hope this review serves your decision well if making a choice about Servus MasterCard. When Shady practices are "best" practise!

Made a Very Stressful situation to a very Happy ending

First introduced to Airdrie AB Servus Credit Union in April 2023
We were trying to Buy a Home, Over 70, Retired, medium to Poor Credit rating.
Turned down by two attempts at other financial institutions. Sean Semark Financial Advisor met with us heard our story introduced us to Manager Dennis Blackburn.
Sean spent an hour or more with us at our first meeting explaining the hurdles, roadblocks and what we had to do to accomplish our goal. Gave us information on a False credit report and how to clear our name. Locked in a mortgage rate before the rates went up. Kept us informed every step of the way, email, phone conversations, set up meetings at our convenience. Sean was a Power Player with the help of his team to get us to the finish line by our deadline of June 30. June 16, 2023 we signed the Mortgage papers on our Home. We can not thank them enough for their hard work it also has given us renewed faith in a financial institution that treats you like real people not just a dollar sign or number.
To Sean Dennis and the Team Thank You

Worst bank ever !

From delayed loan to purchase a home, to online banking out of service continually, to long wait times for help with online banking, to no call backs, the list goes on and on and on!
How they say they’re rated #1 in Alberta is beyond comprehension.

Multiple times I have been locked out…

Multiple times I have been locked out fo my card. Waiting on hold forever, very high fees, the worst app of all banks. I am currently on hold for 30 minutes waiting to pay my restaurant bill for someone to pick up the phone. I am so done, going back to the big banks.

My fears and concerns about servus…

My fears and concerns about servus credit union merger with connect first have proven to be well founded. I tried to buy concert tickets to Journey and Toto but was unable to due to fraud protection. Despite my calling in to say it was me, I was assured I could try my transaction again and it would go through. It did not. The agent from servus assured me I would get a call back from the call center to resolve my issue. I said to the agent by then I won't be able to get my tickets. The agent assured me that would not happen. Still waiting. I left connect first for reasons like this. Now where do I go? Seems like connect brought their culture of indifference, inaccuracies and complacency with them.😾

Customer service is terrible

Customer service is terrible. Their app isn't user friendly in the slightest. I changed to a Rogers mastercard after 3 terrible experiences in 12 months with servus and it was the best decision I've made. Don't waste your time with them. Not only is their customer service and app next to useless but their employees don't know a thing about what's happening. I was literally told to repurchase a purchase after it didn't go through by a representative just for the original purchase to go through hours late and they refuse to refund me on either purchase. They're uneducated and untrained.

Worst Service I have experienced in my…

Worst Service I have experienced in my live. Incompetence, blundering and total lack of accountability. Customer service is sacrificed for profits. Incurred approximal 400.00 in additional fees on a mortgage being funded due to their errors. Servus accepts ZERO accountability or responsibilities and bullies customers into paying for Servus's errors. Servus uses loan shark techiniques like threats to force clients to pay for Servus errors.

35 year customer and it's gotten terrible

35 year customer. It's been going downhill since the late 90's.

I will get my mortgage from RBC.

Hold most of my GICs at other banks and use debit visas from internet based banks when I travel.

They:
1) cant hire people who speak understandable English.

2) have a terrible internet banking platform.

3) replace good people with bad foreign workers to save money especially in small towns where everyone knows everyone

4) you cant trade or have a self directed account for RRSPs because their "experts are better for you" ie. Lose me.money make the bank money in processing and management fees.

5) sitting down with an investment advisor for something simple like a GIC takes an hour where they try to sell you on something you dont need.

6) their telephone staff pretend to submit credit raise checks and keep the info for themselves and commit fraud.

7) everytime you call to get something fixed because the internet banking doesnt work; the call centre agents who cant speak English try to sell you something you dont want or even remotely need.

8) branch hours are like 10-3pm.

Don't recommend

I've been with this bank since my dad made my account when I was younger. Just had bad services since I can remember. They are rude and unhelpful, and I get charged for things I shouldn't have. I've had a few ladies that were very nice, and they did do alot for me. But there have also been a few ladies (I wish I remembered their names) who were just awful and rude (Calgary sunridge location)

I start with the positive

I start with the positive, the girl I was dealing with was nice. But that’s about it. She or her coworkers or the callCenter. No one was helpful. I had an average of 10 K in my Bank Account. My Debit card keeps getting declined, Credit card never worked, not once. Transfer does t work. And They transferred 2000 to a blocked account without my consent. I agreed to get some paperwork send to me to review it. I answered back that I am not interested, but the money was already moved. I am getting treated like I have file for bankruptcy several times or something like that, for no reason at all. Worst bank ever! Online banking is sh…., too. And then on top of that you have to listen to all the commercials telling you how fantastic they are. I I tried to invest my money, too. Asking or some specific funds and what kind of security Account they offer. No luck for 4 month now. I’ll close my Account ASAP. Don’t fall for the commercials. They couldn’t care less if you going to be a future customer or not. I felt unwelcome and like the most unimportant person on this planet. And the support you get on the phone, I don’t even wanna start with it. It’s was an experience that left me absolutely furious. I didn’t know that I am Able to be that upset. I don’t even wanna know how they treat people that are for whatever reason on a tight budget. Don’t deal with Servus!
