We are sorry that you are dissatisfied, but your review leaves out important parts of the case.

The buyer documented that the bottle had arrived with significant damage to the glass and therefore not in the condition in which it was listed and sold. Whether the bottle remained sealed or might still be drinkable does not change the fact that the buyer did not receive the item he purchased.

We spent several days trying to mediate between the parties and find a reasonable solution. This included exploring a price reduction that reflected the bottle’s materially altered condition. You were only willing to offer a maximum reduction of 10%, which the buyer did not accept. As no mutually acceptable reduction could be agreed, the remaining solution was to cancel the transaction and return the bottle to you.

ShareWine does not require private sellers to purchase insurance. Insurance is the sender’s choice. However, the absence of insurance does not transfer the risk to the buyer or require the buyer to pay full price for an item that arrives materially different from its description.

Our buyer protection means that payment is held until the purchased item has been delivered as agreed. When a transaction is cancelled because the item was not delivered in the condition in which it was sold, the item must be returned to the seller. It would not be reasonable for the buyer to bear the return shipping cost for an issue that was not caused by the buyer.

It is correct that we have rejected several of your listings. In those cases, the asking prices were significantly above what we see wines actually trade at in the secondary market – in some instances more than 100% above comparable market levels.

Wine-Searcher is a useful reference, but it primarily reflects retail asking prices from wine shops. On a peer-to-peer secondary marketplace like ShareWine, successful sale prices are typically lower. This is based on extensive data from completed transactions on our platform and comparable markets.

Our goal is not to reject listings unnecessarily, but to help sellers price wines at levels where they realistically sell. This benefits both sellers and buyers and ensures a healthy marketplace.

We are always happy to advise on pricing and adjustments, and we appreciate you being open to dialogue.

Regarding your points:

Prices: You're absolutely right – since sellers set their own prices, some listings may be overpriced. That’s the nature of an open marketplace. However, we do regularly guide sellers on realistic pricing based on current market data, and we’re constantly working to improve sell-through rates.

Sell-through vs. auction houses: ShareWine is a peer-to-peer marketplace, so it's a different model than traditional auction houses like Bruun Rasmussen. On our platform, listings stay visible longer, and sellers have more freedom, which can lead to different dynamics in sales velocity.

Bidding flexibility: We understand your points. Allowing bid withdrawals or under-threshold bids opens up potential for misuse or buyer regret – which can create a poor experience for sellers. That said, we’re always open to revisiting these mechanics if we can ensure fairness and safety for all users.
