Scammy Marketing, Worsening Quality, and Horrible Customer Service

I’ve been ordering from Shiny By Nature for 5 years, and literally every single time I’ve had an issue with my order. Let me preface this by saying I have a VERY large difference between my hip and waist measurements. So finding pants that fit anywhere else is genuinely impossible without having to go to a tailor.

So when I heard about Shiny By Nature I thought all of my prayers were answered. I was obviously mistaken.

At first, the issues were mainly on the side of customer service and not on the quality of the garments. My first purchase took literal months to arrive with no communication from the company. But I was so excited to have jeans that fit, so I let it slide.

I still have some of those jeans after years and years of wear. They were genuinely great quality for the price and fit me like a glove. They’re finally showing some wear, and one got a hole in the seam. So I decided to stock up on more jeans since that’s what I wear to work every day.

Unfortunately, in the last few years, everything about the brand has gone downhill.

A huge red flag I don’t see a lot of people talking about: against FTC regulations they claim their items are “clearance and will never be restocked once sold out” LITERALLY all of the time.

I guarantee if you go on their website right now they’ll claim to be having a warehouse clear out final sale clearance extravaganza.

That’s a lie, and an illegal marketing tactic to perpetually claim the same items are on sale. That’s not a sale. It’s just the price of the item. And their items are constantly restocked after the supposed “last chance clearance sale”.

(There’s another sleazy aspect to claiming all of your items are clearance that I’ll get into later in my review.)

But first to touch on the quality of the clothes. Sizing and quality has changed drastically over the last few years at Shiny by Nature. The last round of jeans I ordered fit completely different from the previous ones. My measurements are the same, so it’s not a change in my body. The jeans are too tight in the hips but too loose in the waist. Meaning they’re basically like all other jeans and not actually sized for people with larger hips. They’re also slowly making their sizes smaller and smaller.

You have to read the size chart for every single pieces of clothing you plan to purchase because literally every item is cut and sized differently based on Alex (the owner and only model) being the size small or medium and then she arbitrarily sizes up and down from there.

I normally wear a 3X in her pants (and normally 2x in other brands), and recently I’ve been sized out of some of the newer styles because even a 5X would be too small.

For someone who built her brand off of fat people’s money, it’s really disheartening to see her systemically excluding fat people from her newer styles.

Her returns policy is also deceptive and basically nonexistent. She claims to offer returns for store credit (she only started offering returns a few years ago after getting a ton of criticism from customers that it was unacceptable for her to not accept any returns).

Except what is only mentioned on ONE of the random pages about returns (and never mentioned on the individual return section underneath items) is that she doesn’t accept returns for clearance items. Which is tricky considering we already established that nearly everything is considered “clearance”.

After emailing customer service about this when they recently tried to block me from returning a pair of pants considered “final sale” that didn’t fit the item or size description, customer service allowed me to return them for store credit when I pointed out that this arbitrary clearance policy is nowhere to be found in the “Returns Info” section under the item on their website. But they made sure to stress that typically they wouldn’t allow returns on this item.

(Those same “clearance, never to be restocked again” pants have been sold out and restocked and clearanced again multiple times since then.)

At the end of the day, if I could find jeans that fit from anywhere else I would never shop here. And honestly after the last set of jeans that I purchased fit completely different and might have to be tailored anyway, I might be officially done with the brand.

I could never in good conscience recommend supporting or buying from Shiny by Nature unless you literally have no other choice. And in that case, make sure to double check the size chart (including the math you have to do to convert the measurements on the size chart to what works with your measurements for that specific item). And know that you’ll have to put up a fight if the quality is trash and you want a refund (for store credit only, of course).

Honestly just so disappointed

Honestly just so disappointed. Got chosyed by the seller when asking for a refund and was met with rude and unprofessional responses before they just stopped talking to me altogether.

This company is the equivalent of that song "It costs this much but it takes me hours" slapped onto mass produced resin garbage.

Seriously, this is clearly just mass produced (likely unethically) made clothing that is cheap and poor quality being sold at an exuberant price.

HORRIBLE customer service and also…

HORRIBLE customer service and also terrible quality. I bought 4 items and only one was cute and quality enough to keep.

Now comes the refund. On the website it says "We are only giving refunds in store credit as it's easier" meaning it's easier for them to keep your hard d earned money and scam you into buying garbage clothing that claims to be fitted. I sized up on all and it was still TIGHT. Plus the quality? Makes SHEIN look like Ralph Lauren.

DO NOT SHOP HERE

DO NOT SHOP HERE. I’d give zero if I could. I got a full zip hoodies that I initially loved and then it shrunk. I thought it was my fault though so I still purchased another and did a cold wash and air dry and still it shrunk! They advise themselves as luxury clothing but it definitely IS NOT LUXURY. On top of that I’ve been trying to reach out to someone, anyone, to discuss this and nothing. Their customer service is trash. I don’t expect all of my money back or a new product but it’s the fact that they don’t allow any kind of reviews even on their website. They have testimonials but they probably wrote them themselves for all we know. It just seems as if they don’t care to get feedback and any company that is above feedback isn’t worth shopping at because it’s obviously about money and not the customer.

I have had a pair of the overalls with…

I have had a pair of the overalls with the heart pocket on the front in black for over a year. I have washed them 10+ TIMES... When I opened the package, the off gassing hit me in the face! Ew. This must be really toxic dye that they use. I washed them immediately.. two of the button covers on the side fell off on that first wash. Very big bummer as they look so ugly missing.. I am able to button up the sides but they come undone on their own. After a year and 10+ washes they still STINK of toxic dye. I cannot be the only one. I will never buy from this company ever again. I also can't give a woman, her husband, and his family a dollar of my hard earned cash. She is so wasteful and trust me people, they don't need your money.

Very disappointed.

I am so very disappointed with this seller.
I really love following the designer on Instagram and was so excited for the inclusive sizing. The first time I bought from them I was over all satisfied. The quality wasn't great but I didn't feel particularly bad.
I had my eyes on a pair of jeans and as soon as it came back into stock I got it.
Turns out the fit wasn't as good as I thought and I returned them. Today I got an email with a $45 gift card and very confused I went and looked at their return policy. I realized that they only refund store credit.
Very disappointed. You should not hold someone's money hostage and make them spend it on your items. Also this should be communicated upfront and not hidden in the refund policy section. I now have a $45 gift card that I cannot use because I don't want to buy anything from their website, and shipping is ridiculous. I learned my lesson the hard way and won't be back.

So much hope, even more disappointment :(

I really really REALLY wanted to love this brand :(( I bought from them twice and was disappointed twice. Last time, I purchased many items including the « suncatcher tee ». The material is very uncomfortable, scratchy and rigid. I thought it would get better with a wash but it did not. The tag also states the shirt should be hand washed? I guess that’s just a suggestion for optimal lifespan, but that shirt will not get a better hygiene routine than I do :)) This is just a plain t-shirt, I feel like $22 is a lot of money for what I got. The shorts I purchased, sizing is way off. Material is also very uncomfortable.

Now the website. Sizing chart does not have any indication of arm circumference which I feel is important if you’re catering towards plus size folks. The first time I bought from them, I got a shirt that I couldn’t get over my arms due to not being able to check measurements first. I’m also quite concerned about the not being able to leave reviews directly on the website part of things? If your costumers are generally satisfied, wouldn’t you want them to be able to leave reviews right there for other potential buyers to see? There’s also no google page to review which is what I was looking for but had to settle for this.

I’m actually really sad about this. I was excited about a colourful fat friendly brand, but I’ll have to keep looking and find a better one :(

Strange and off sizing

I've ordered several items from Shiny by Nature over the past two years. The best thing I have gotten was the puffy parka jacket in 2022, I have used it for two winters now and I really like it. Unfortunately everything else has been a miss. Pants, sweaters, shirts, all seem to have really strange sizing, the arms are tight, but the neck is super loose, or the waist band fits but the fit in the thighs is super baggy, etc. I typically wear an XL on top and an 2XL on bottom. I wanted to love this brand, but overall it's a miss and I will not be ordering anything else from them.

Incorrect sizing and radio silence

Their sizing is just incorrect entirely. I ordered 3 things, all the same size. One was oversized and the other two didn’t even fit. And now I’m just in limbo waiting for SOMEONE to respond to my email. they already approved my return, so what am I even waiting for? I would rather get a cash refund than be held hostage with store credit for a store I plan on never buying from again. Their clothes are from China, which wouldn’t be a problem but their pricing does not match the quality. Don’t buy from them if you’re any bigger than midsize, and don’t buy from them if you expect someone to actually respond to you. Shame.

Shady business practises

Shady business practises - constantly raising prices before sales, no accountability to their sustainability claims and clothes have the smell and quality of shein for double the price, claims to cater to plus size but the fit doesn't work if you're any bigger than mid size. Coupled with no refund policy and unprofessional customer service, I would avoid in future.

Overall great experience!

I am obsessed with everything I have from Shiny By Nature, which is now at least 7 or 8 items. Their denim is my favorite thing ever as a curvy woman!
The denim skirts are exactly what I’ve been searching for, and the heart overalls??? C’mon - so freaking cute.
The dresses are extremely short on me, but I am a bit tall. Still, I usually don’t have trouble with things being uncomfortably short, and these dresses push it for me. Just some feedback!
Customer service is great, if a little slow. I can’t really blame them, it’s got to be really tough being such a small business and dealing with a big influx of orders!
Another thing is that I really appreciate the company’s transparency and morals.

Overall, I will definitely be shopping again and would 100% recommend to a friend.

Ordered a sweather as a Christmas…

Ordered a sweather as a Christmas present from this place early november. Paied shipping with the purcase. Had not recived any information or sweather two weeks into desember so I contacted them. The sweather was stucked in custom and that information could I see on their web side was the answer. Ok...I could change to another sweather if I like was the answer. but my daughter did not want another so we decided to waith. Late januar no sweather or information made us take contact again. Same answer. This time we asked for another sweather and recived that about to weeks later with Ups , Great ! I payed 80 $ for the sweather and 59$ for shipping in november, but suddenly one month later I got a bill from Ups for shipping for the sweather !! Contacted shinybynature.com and asked why I had to pay shipping twice and got an answer that did not make sense; it was due to custom, taxes in my country !!! UPS is not collecting taxes or custom in norway! Rubbish! Ups themself said it was for shipping but shinybynature.com washed their hands and told me to send my complain to UPS. Ended up paying more in shipping than for the sweather- ok sweather, but not Worth 3 month waithing or 190$.
