Shurgard Self Storage - Berlin Oberschöneweide Reviews 

Shurgard has lost my trust. Aside from the constant rent increases, their decision to remove physical keypads starting December 1st is unacceptable. They are forcing a mandatory switch to a mobile app that is known to crash and malfunction.
​I have already witnessed customers at the Berlin facility stranded because the app wouldn't open the doors. If your phone battery dies or the network goes down, you will have no access to your stuff. Calling this "security" is a joke—it is simply an inconvenience. I cannot recommend Shurgard until they bring back reliable physical access options.

Had a very smooth experience with the storage so far, especially appreciate the app opening the doors.

Everything was handled online without ever having to see a person, which was great for me. The booking process was easy and the communications afterwards answered all questions I had. Can recommend.

UNEXPECTED CHARGES, AVOID

I didn't purchase a lock from them because I had my own one. When I arrived at the storage they accidentally left one in my locker. Without any communication, they send me a bill and forced me to buy it.

Manager very rude when asked for clarification.

The employees are very supportive and kind along the whole process, from inquiring through contracting, and moving in. It’s obvious that Shurgard puts emphasis on creating positive customer experience throughout customer interactions. The online booking is simple I like I didn’t had to do it in person during regular working hours. The app is very useful and easy to use.

Things to improve:
- I received a map to find my locker but inside the facility the rows are not marked the same way as the map, letter signs are missing
-only 5 trolleys in the building and the employee says there was more but they can’t find them (maybe use apple tags?)
-no toilet in the facility. This is a huge negative aspect, all big storage buildings I used before had this basic feature. Washing hands after packing should be possible and people might have other needs too.
-they use special locks which forces customers to spend additional money for that lock

Shurgard service is nice and I'm generally happy, but some facts are good to know especially if you plan long-time contract:

- you can get a storage with weird construction elements and shurgard will deny exchanging it for another (of many empty) storage. I got a call that it's possible and email that its not possible at the same time from different people, just to learn at the place that a column in the room is no reason for exchange (what would be then? a triangle room?) and that my risk of booking online without the service fee is that I get a non-standard room. That really feels like a "no because no" case, though might be just german customer service standards.

- price grows with time, and grows a lot. As it usually is for this kind of service - shurgard is only affordable if you get a new contract and for the first few months. Consider this fact if you planned to use it as your full-time cellar, since you might be surprised with bi-yearly raises at some point.

- hundreds of calls as soon as you just tentatively start to book a storage are annoying. Especially that as written above, the service is not so helpful once you really need something from them

Check in to the storage, move in date and process was very easy and well informed, the customer service was great and friendly. The place is very easy to use

Perhaps one of the worst experiences I have had with a storage provider. Despite recieving email confirmation with my entrance code and that my unit was ready to go, upon arriving to the storage unit on a saturday, the code they had provided me did not work. Meaning I had no access to the car park, the entrance or my unit and, due to their early closing hours on the weekend, no one to call and speak with, their automated service was also completely useless with fixing the situation. This left me with few options to store an XL miles van worth of things. The result was an emergency delivery and storage solution that cost me upwards of 700 euro for the 4 days I needed storage until the office was open again so that I could get my code changed and finally get access to my unit. Upon explaining the situation and asking for some kind of compensation for their error, I was offered 1 month free storage and the excuse that its not their responsibility as they don't control the system that gives out the codes. 1 month rent is around 80 euro.. which is a significant difference considering the cost of emergency delivery and storage. Plus the time and stress that this situation added onto my move. It would seem that they need to make assurances that you can talk with someone to fix such a situation in the future. But for me it was a terrible situation, with very little understanding or compensation for an error that is completely their fault.

I had a really good experience, during office hours Torak helped me find my unit and instructed me on everything I needed to know. Great service!

Straight forward service with a smile and very thorough. Great setup, extremely safe and secure. Only minor issue is that there is no light in the storage unit.

Access is straightforward with one simple code to memorize. The parking lot in front of the building and the trolleys allow easy moving of your items.

The only reason you are getting 3 stars (I would give you 1 if not for a star employee) is because of your employee saved the day. I made a reservation online and received a confirmation email with a code. I hired a car, filled it with boxes, travelled 30 minutes on a Saturday in traffic, arrived and there was no record of me on the system. How can this process be so flawed? Thankfully your star employee talked us calmly through everything and got it sorted. If you aren't going to invest in your systems, pay your staff more who are picking up the pieces of your failed so-called-automated processes.

Overall smooth experience. The automatic online handling is an improvement over the previous situation where signing the contract happened over the phone and in person after making a reservation.

The staff at the facility was helpful and friendly and the facility was modern and clean. Only downside was that the units could no longer be closed with any regular lock but only custom made ones... I bought a lock specifically for my storage unit last time, thinking it would last me years and now I had to buy another one.

The storage is super clean. Booking is easy and fast. There was a lack of information about the suitable lock for my storage (not all storages use the same lock), but the issue was solved rapidly.
