Under difficult circumstances and with the myriad of security compliance hoops that banks have to make you jump through, there is a real human behind the App able to provide a caring, practical and thoughtful support
Having had trouble contacting anyone at Sibstar
Having had trouble contacting anyone in customer service or receiving a reply to my email, finally after suggesting I would go ahead with a competitor card I received a call from William who explained that he was the only one trying to sort out all the applications and queries on his own. He was very helpful and after some guidance I was able to complete the application. I am yet to receive the carers card and so will have to wait and see how well the system works.
Great so far
Great so far, card on way. I'll add more in a few weeks
Setting up an app and account
I was very pleased when I discovered Sibstar. My relative has just recently received his card so we are in early stages of using it.
It allows the carers to have a debit card to purchase the day to day things required and I can oversee the amount on the card and see how much and where it is being used.
It was an arduous process to set up the app. I did not have all the information required and had to keep requesting it from the care staff. I do not live near to my relative and this was quite time consuming. It would have been really useful to have a list of all the documentation that would be required from the outset.
William was very helpful with overcoming the challenges of setting up and I am grateful to him.
I am hopeful that this is going to work out well, so far I am very pleased with account and service.
Sibstar is a good debit card option for vulnerable people
I setup a Sibstar account & card for my brother who has learning difficulties. The setup process was quite complicated and took a while, but you can understand why (its necessary to protect vulnerable people). Sibstar support (via email) was very good throughout the setup process. William responded quickly to any issues & questions. The app is ok & usable (it could have more bells & whistles, but all the essentials seem to be there). My brother's only just started to use the card so we will see how it goes, but so far so good. Its easy to pick holes in financial products. Sibstar isn't perfect, but it does work, and I'm happy to support businesses that provide a service and try to help people.
Great idea - fantastic customer service
I set up an account with Sibstar for my brother over a year ago since he has some learning difficulties and early onset dementia. The whole process was straightforward, and the customer service was really good. I’ve seen some reviews mentioning that setting up the account was difficult, but I’m not sure what part they struggled with.
My experience with customer service has been really positive. When the card was stolen, I could freeze it easily on the app and got a new one sent out quickly after talking to them (with little or no waiting time!).
Getting in touch with customer service has been a breeze, and they reply to emails super fast.
Honestly, I think they could teach the big banks a thing or two!

I can only give 1 star as I can't give 0. The application is via the app and for someone who is not tech savvy very complicated. I telephoned 2 days ago before going ahead with the application and had to leave a call back message as all the staff were busy with other enquiries. I have telephoned toad and no call back (it seems all options on the telephone menu have the same message they're all busy!) I emailed and no response. I chose this company as it had a slightl better review score above an alternative property but I wish I had not! I shall probably go with the other company if no response soon.
Absolutely outstanding! A positive game changer!
I am the Lasting Power of Attorney holder for my dear bachelor Uncle who lives in a flat over a hundred miles away from me.
He is always misplacing his debit card or hiding it (for safe keeping) in places he wouldn't remember or losing it so I would have to keep applying for another one which as you know is a lengthy process.
Then there was the matter of the pin number being sent out separately which I guess with dementia is another important document to hide.
So for me it was a constant challenge of catch-up which never happened.
I heard about Sibstar a couple of years ago before my Uncle was diagnosed with Alziemers.
I remembered watching Dragons Den and saw the episode with the blond lady on it and recalled her heart felt story.
I didn't really think too much about it all this time until it became almost unmanageable to deal with my Uncles money, bills and food and having to keep applying for pin numbers and debit cards.
So I Googled: 'Dragons Den Dementia Card' and the process started from there.
Jasmine at Sibstar, was my first port of call she helpfully and patiently guided me through the process over the course of about 6 weeks to obtain the required documents (not easy because of my logistics and work commitments) but we got there in the end, which I am so thankful for.
William at Sibstar is a great help with the technical side of things and quickly answered all of my questions and also liased with the bank when needed.
The questions I asked are mostly on the 'help FAQ's section of the app.
The team at Sibstar have been so helpful in getting this great idea up and running for me.
They probably are a small team but will always respond and will resolve any issues.
My advice is to make sure you have all the correct documentation and information ready, call them, leave a message for them to reply to and be patient in this process. They will always respond.
Once everything is approved and you're up and running the small monthly fee is a very small price to pay for the piece of mind that you're loved one will have money available that you can monitor and control to provide them with their daily needs.
I also think that one of the main factors of having a Sibstar card is that it is compliant with Social Services Care agencies.
When I mentioned to the care manager about my Uncle's bank debit card pin number arriving in the post and could the carers keep an eye out for it, she said the carers aren't allowed to see or know his pin number as the agency would be open to financial abuse. So a "top up" card was the only option and Sibstar is the best and most trusted one at that.
I make sure that there is only £200 on the card at any time, enough for the shopping but not too much to lose if its lost/stolen or abused.
What a great service that commercial banks don't provide.
This service is perfect for people with dementia.
Absolute game changer !!!
What a relief !!!
Thank you Sibstar Team 🙏
It did what it said on the tin
It did what it said on the tin. Its been great for my mother who had dementia and really helped keep her money safe until she went into a home. Having the ability to set spending limints, prevent online purchases etc and being able to turn everything on and off gave us peace of mind while she kept as much of her indipendance as possible..
Ive seen complaints about bad customer services in some reviews but we had no issues and cancilling the card as it was no longer needed was easy with one phonecall and the credit ballance was repaid within days.
The only issue we had initially when applying for the card was a little complex and some auto generated emails was confusing, but that was all sorted quickly. Because the card was so usefiull ive given it 5*
Sibstar is a breakthrough for dementia patients, and to keep as much independence as possibly can.
I set my mother who has Dementia, up on the Sibstar card, it has proved absolutely first class. She can use it just like a normal card with the added bonus of not getting scammed, or give her details away. It does take a good few weeks to set up , mainly because of thorough checking.
Totally recommend Sibstar.
Don't waste your time
Applied for a card and heard nothing,it was for my mum with dementia, rang 5 times over a week to chase where it was and left messages.A month later I got a reply by email.Absolutely disgraceful customer services so don't bother
Ended up with a Go Henry card which is brilliant and the service was quick and slick

It’s a great idea and has lots of benefits. It did take a bit of setting up, mainly because I live away from the person using it. At a later date a cash point swallowed my aunt’s card (the machine was faulty we found out afterwards) and it did take a long time to get a replacement (nearly 6 weeks). The staff were really helpful (in particular William) and it seemed to be a card printing issue responsible for the delay. I think it is a system that is definitely worth a try.
1 star because you can't give 0
1 star because you can't give 0 - Absolutely useless, card has never worked and cost me £50 in fees. Can't get hold of customer service and they never call back. Total waste of time and money, don't use Sister if you have any sense.

Will at Sibstar provided outstanding service and demonstrated a high level of professionalism throughout. He was able to quickly identify and resolve the issue that was causing my nan’s card to decline, and thanks to his expertise everything is now working perfectly again. The service was truly first class, and we are extremely grateful for his help. Will was an absolute lifesaver, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend both him and Sibstar to anyone in need of reliable, efficient support.
Fantastic company who’s work is necessary for my family
Very friendly and compassionate staff, happy to help me on behalf of my mother who requires a less stressful, more straightforward way to deal with her finances. The service is such a game changer for those with Alzheimer’s. Thank you!
Exactly What We Were Looking For
My daughter has a learning disability, and managing money has always been a tricky area. We tried giving her cash, bank cards, budgeting apps, nothing really stuck. Sibstar is the first thing that works for both of us. She feels trusted and capable, and I know she’s not overspending or at risk. It’s exactly the tool we’d been looking for!

Sibstar has helped me manage my daughters finances and use the locked down app to show her the transactions shes making. the statements could be improved to add a running balance but otherwise we are happy
Appallingly poor customer support
Appallingly poor customer support. I’m trying to get an account for my son and have provided appropriate documentation but each time it’s come back with an oops message which is not at all helpful. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve phoned and emailed. This is extremely frustrating and has led me actively look for an alternative. It also makes me consider whether this is a safe option for my son’s money.
