I attended the Siege EMC1 course at Bad Moon Cafe and was pretty blown away by the experience.
Although I knew I'd learn plenty, I was amazed by how much I actually enjoyed it too and how inspired I was to go and paint when I could get home.
James was an excellent instructor, maintaining a great pace and energy for the whole of the class, as well as making himself available for very one on one feedback and tips throughout the weekend.
I would highly recommend this course and can't wait until I can attend another!

I booked onto a Siege Studios EMC1 course which took place last weekend.
I have been painting miniatures for about 2 years, and have slowly practiced more and more techniques but only through online guides, YouTube and other platforms.
I joined the Siege Discord about 6 months ago, having watched their podcast on a regular basis whilst painting.
So, the course itself. The venue was Bad Moons Cafe in London, which was a great venue with a good amount of space as well as a great bar/cafe area and a great atmosphere with lots of gaming going on around us as we painted.
The course begins with a section on airbrushing, before going on to wet pallette tips, brush control, and layering for Day 1. Day 2 has highlighting, decals, weathering and faces. I would highly recommend making sure you check the kit list beforehand although an airbrush is absolutely not 100% necessary; most of the learning was with a brush.
James led the course, which was relatively fast paced with lots of information provided. Everything was demonstrated by James before everyone gave each technique a go themselves. The delivery was clear and direct, with feedback during the session focusing on areas of improvement as you followed the session. James does a good job of separating opinion and fact in his statements and feedback, and encourages people to ask questions if they aren’t clear on the subject. The pace of the course was fast, and full of information so taking notes is absolutely essential to get the most out of it. James always provided critical feedback during practice sessions, whilst balancing it with praise for the final results once he felt that people had achieved their results with each piece.
The course is about improving as a painter and saving time where possible without sacrificing quality or taking shortcuts, and I can safely say that everyone who was on the course with me was able to achieve a high standard in all of the sections.
I am already considering EMC2 as a course and really enjoyed my time, especially socialising with the other students which topped it off, and James took a big interest in the hobby and what it meant for people in the Q&A, and when students were playing Kill Team games they’d organised for after the course finished on day 1. I think all of the elements I learnt will definitely make their way into my painting as I enter my first painting competition!

Great painting class!
Recently attended their essentials master course as someone with about a years painting under my belt. Felt like I learned not just new techniques but also refinements of basics that I had been doing for a year. No question went unanswered, everyone got individual attention and corrections. Really felt like a focused space to learn about the hobby and the teacher was committed to making sure you got individual value out of your time and money rather than phoning it in which was great.

Bit of a wait till the order was worked on but great communication during the work with input and help from the artist to make things look great. Excellent finished product.

I had an amazing experience working with siege studios. They made my death korps of krieg army come to life with an expert paint job and it was meticulously packaged to keep everything safe when they mailed it to me. I highly recommend to anyone who wants a well painted army to impress on the table top.

Siege Studios were open and supportive throughout the entire process, providing regular email updates and photos. The finished paintwork matched the brief perfectly and was executed to an excellent standard.

I'd previously been on the essentials courses that taught me some great techniques to level up my miniature painting. The basing course follows the same principles, but with a load of new ideas and techniques to improve the realism of the bases and bring them inline with the quality learnt previously.
There was a good number of different bits and James encouraged creativity both when building and painting a number of different environments in varying seasons and we all finished with some really unique, great looking pieces.
Look out for Siege Studios branded C̶h̶o̶c̶o̶l̶a̶t̶e̶ Concrete Moulds in the future!

Basing course @ Badmoon
This was a great course, learned loads, the curriculum was great and all the feedback and support from James was fantastic.
The ‘goodies’ table was great, really gave loads of creative options.
Looking forward to implementing what I learned.

I had a lot of fun on the basing course especially working with a variety of materials I had not used before including plasticard and plaster of paris. We touched on the opportunities with basing to create a world to ground a miniature within using the seasons, weathering and a variety of materials to spin a narrative. We also covered using the base to provide another avenue of contrast for the miniature in terms of colour, texture and even in a lore/background sense. In all I thoroughly recommend the course for anyone looking to both explore and have more fun with basing.

The quality of the finished product was excellent and the communication throughout was very good. I would recommend Siege Studios and will be back for other commissions in the future.

The process of getting my quote and deciding how exactly I wanted my miniature was truly a wonderful process. The people of Siege Studios were very helpful throughout the whole process. I was very happy with it from the beginning to the end.

I was gifted a 1 hour 1-1 virtual tuition. The flexibility in terms of choosing what to cover was surprising and very welcome. The tuition was also very professional and immensely helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would absolutely recommend Siege tuition to other painters.

I have been reallly happy with everything Siege has done since the very start of the process. Always there to answer my questions, explain the process and keep me updated with progress to ensure my models come out perfectly.
Now that I have received my models, I can honestly say that they are incredible. I have models ranging from bronze to gold standard and the care and attention to detail is clear in every single one.

The teacher was very knowledgeable about the topic, which really put me at ease as well as communicated very clearly and effectively. He, somehow? covered exactly what I had questions about, I remmebr thinking, he went over every single mistake I have made and taught the correct method. I learnt more than I expected I could learn, for being as new as I am. I will honestly try evberything I was reccomended, get some minis under my belt, and get more sessions!

would have liked a bit clearer timeline, but despite that it was exceptional quality, communication, execution, and was well worth the wait

The team was extremely cooperative and did amazing work on my model. During the commission, I was hospitalized and needed time to get my finances back in order and the team worked with me 100% to make sure I could still get my model even though the final payment was severely delayed. They are a company and team that cares!

Very professional process with great results. Understandably they are busy so was a bit of a delay before mine was ready but it was worth the wait. Would do again in the future!
