I am absolutely gutted that I booked this cruise on Silver Spirit

I am absolutely gutted that I booked with Silverseas on the Silver Spirit, I travelled in December from Barbados. This was the worst cruise experience I have ever had - and I have sailed with Celebrity, Virgin, Princess, P&O, Marella. I have no idea how SS’s manage to advertise themselves to be a step above the rest in terms of quality.

Day 1
Lunch - The Grill - ordered chicken Caesar salad, but was served plain Caesar salad. Main dishes were placed onto the table whilst we were still eating our starters.

Evening meal - The Grill - all four of us were left waiting for 1hr & 20mins after our starters for 2 x steaks and 2 x fish. We had to chase staff and we had clearly been forgotten. When our meals eventually arrived, both steaks were overcooked (ordered medium but neither were even slightly pink) and the fish dishes were cold. Fish dishes were sent back to be recooked, we didn’t chance waiting for another two steaks to be cooked as we were so hungry by this point.

Day 2
Breakfast - Atlantide - Waited 40 mins to be served poached eggs. These arrived overcooked and cold. The orange juice served is not fresh, it tasted watered down, with a slight fizz.

Evening meal - Atlantide - we were invited back (the four of us) for an evening meal to put things right after breakfast. The food was still served cold.

Day 3
Breakfast - buffet La Terrazza. Ordered poached eggs (soft) and again, they were cooked hard. Inedible as the eggs tasted of vinegar, the vinegar had saturated the toast. Orange juice was terrible quality again. Went to Arts Cafe to try freshly squeezed orange juice - this tastes watered down and unlike any freshly squeezed orange juice I have ordered in the past (I juice daily at home so I know how it should taste).

Day 4
Breakfast - buffet La Terrazza - decided to give up on poached eggs and took scrambled from the buffet area instead. The eggs were unseasoned and only just warm. Grilled tomatoes were undercooked.

Day 5
Breakfast - Gave up on having breakfast all together! Ate a small roll from arts cafe in my room.

Evening meal - Atlantide - my husband ordered lobster Thermidor for starter - this arrived cold and had to be sent away. My sister in law and I ordered prime rib of beef; all ingredients on the plate were cold and the meals had to be sent away to be re-cooked.

Day 6
Breakfast - buffet La Terrazza- ordered poached eggs - this time completely they were completely undercooked, and they were served on gluten free bread. I am not gluten intolerant!, my husband is. I went to the buffet counter instead to get scrambled egg as an alternative, the eggs tasted appalling and were barely warm. My husband tasted them as it this point I thought I may be going mad. He agreed, they tasted appalling.

Other issues:
Poor quality inclusive champagne - well, not to our taste anyway. Half the problem is that it often wasn’t served cold enough.

Warm water consistently served at lunch time at The Grill - numerous times we went to the bar ourselves to ask for cold iced water instead.

My husband is gluten intolerant - thank goodness he doesn’t have any allergy. He was listed as being gluten free. He ordered cheese one night and was given crackers that were not gluten free. There was a distinct lack of awareness compared to the ‘9’ other cruises we have been on. Waiters often did not know what items contained gluten on the menu.

The entertainment was very lame - I knew this cruise wouldn’t be entertainment heavy, but to have nothing at all during the day was disappointing. Elevator music that we could barely hear around the pool, no sail away party/event, not even a one man singer on deck late afternoon to bring the atmosphere up.

I worked out that the cruise itself probably cost two of us at least £800 a day. Quite frankly the quality for this money was an absolute joke. I have NEVER complained about any previous cruises I have been on except P&O - but this is not even comparable given the difference in price. I actually burst into tears on day 5 at breakfast, and told my husband that I just wanted to get off the ship!!

After complaining (during and post cruise) I was offered a lame amount of future cruise credit which is useless to me as I would NOT sail with SS’s again. I requested to use the credit on Celebrity as they are part of the same group, but this request was refused.

2 Star average is Fair

Silverseas cruises just charge ‘high end’ prices but don’t deliver a high end experience compared to other cruise lines like Regent or Seabourn etc.

Don’t get me wrong, the experience was adequate, but you don’t get value for (a lot of) money. Not only that but our experience of their Escalations Team (Customer Services) in Florida was patronising and typically American in delivery.

Cowboys of the high seas

Wow, I can only descrube this cruise line as Cowoys of the high seas and that is before even embarking on a cruise.

In my case they advertised free excursions then after booking they were not available. Beware if you have booked with theses cowboys and you live in the UK they use a premium rate phone number which costs a fortune to call.

Shocking customer service I can only wish this cruise company a very speedy demise

Not great in management, services or inclusion

The good things are the ship itself and the balcony. The room was comfortable (although probably to a 3-4 star level rather than anything 5 or 6 star about it). There were basic amenities like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc. which were okay.

The areas of improvement - management using excuses like 'weather' to justify incompetence at times. Communication is poor and a lot of follow ups needed for simple answers.

The food is just about okay, but the lack of variety is appalling. If you have any special requirements (oatmilk, non alcoholic drinks, different types of cuisines instead of the same thing every single day) then you will be extremely disappointed.

The worst thing was probably the lack of consideration of anyone's opinion who did not agree with the 'majority'. In one weather related change to itinerary, we added two extra 'sea' days. While I understand most people wanted the two extra days of 'free food and drink', some of us face extreme sea sickness and we would have liked to at least be heard. They blatantly don't even care, and change the itinerary as they please. The worst is actually being excluded or being ignored even if you try to voice your opinion, because you are not the 'majority'.

In normal life, this would not matter as we would simply walk away and choose another provider. Why would we willingly give business to anyone who is like that. But in a confined space where they can willy-nilly make any decision irrespective of how your health suffers, and then being excluded as if you don't matter because you are the minority, was really a feeling of extreme helplessness and we absolutely could not believe we had actually paid them money to make us feel that way. I mean my workplace actually pays me, and even they don't make me feel like that!

We sailed on Silverseas Spirit, unfortunately last day spoiled

We sailed on Silverseas Spirit from Rome to Lisbon. Overall cruise experience, ship and shore options excellent. totally 5 star+.
Bur completely ruined with last night experience when a piece of my wife’s jewellery went missing from our cabin. Partly owned by fault as everything was always in safe, but cases were packed for departure.
Totally disappointing was the response from Silverseas. Reported issue to reception and a 3 person security group came did a complete cabin search and found nothing, but were more interested in accusation that we had packed it in our cases.
We confirmed cases were packed and outside cabin before we left for dinner and item was left on coffee table for next morning. It took months of chasing up what steps had been taken to investigate how or who had accessed cabin. There appeared a total lack of concern from any senior staff onboard of administration. I was provided with an insurance report and told if item was not in our luggage to claim from our insurance and ‘case closed’.
Advise to always ensure items of value are always secure, no matter how happy you are with everything else.

Completed 1 cruise and it was very…

Completed 1 cruise and it was very effficiently run and enjoyable. Many very loud Americans (be aware if that bothers you). Most friendly Sadly Silverseas don't manage singles well and in some cases charge you more than the total rate for two people. I see they have released some single rate cruises and have booked again. Now they have staff who keep asking for all your personal details (despite having filled forms) as if you are mentally handicapped. Possibly there are elders with cognitive issues which should be a tick box if detailed assistance is required rather than treating everyone over 60yrs as if they are 90. Other than that let you know how the next cruise goes. Loving the S.A.L.T excursions!

Terrible customer relations!

Terrible customer relations!
My wife and I have just returned from an Alaska cruise on 15th May and despite amazing views and sights, the customer relations are simply appalling! I will try and make this as short as possible but it really could be 2 pages long.
Our luggage went missing enroute from the ship to Anchorage airport which was transported on an incorrect van (their fault). Having had to leave for Seattle without our luggage and having just the clothes on our backs, we were told by someone from Silverseas to " get some clothes and what you need and we will reimburse you with receipts. At Silverseas we don't skimp and customer relations are our priority" We brought the minimum clothing the next morning still not knowing if or when our baggage would turn up. We returned home 2 days later to sort out the issue, they completely went against this and flatly refused to honour this agreement. They have made a completely derisory offer of £500 cruise credit off our next cruise which I can assure you will never happen. The real shame is that the staff and the ship was so good but if things go wrong, which can happen, the post cruise customer care is truly awful. Having only 36 hours in Seattle, much of the time was spent buying stuff we didn't want to buy and trying to email Silverseas to help us which completely overshadowed the whole holiday. In short, they talk a good game but really let you down when needed.

this was our third and last cruise with…

this was our third and last cruise with silverseas. we have around 4 or 5 cruises a year, and have always looked forward to our silverseas one which in the past, has always been the best. not so now! the cruise we had last, was the caribbean. they are now no better than p and o. the cutbacks are so obvious. there was so much wrong with this cruise, i would be spending all day typing it out. they even try fobbing you off with carton orange swearing it was fresh. it makes me ill so i insisted they then bring me 3 oranges and a knife. i cut and squeezed the juice in a glass and told waiter to compare. he walked away because he knew i was right. i ended up during the rest of cruise doing my own juice. the silver moon is a nice ship with lovely decor and plenty of lifts, but the staff are poorly trained, the food only mediocre, the menus the same almost every day, and a very disappointing cruise overall. the only good thing which i wish all other cruise lines followed, was the embarkation and disembarkation.
we were held up because of the heathrow fire, and told ALL expenses would be paid. now they are refusing to pay anything. i now have a legal battle which no-one wants after a holiday. shame on you silverseas. we now look forward to our next cruises which will with paul gauguin, seabourne and regent or oceana. CERTAINLY NOT silverseas

Sooooo disappointed!!

Sooooo disappointed!!! I've tried to post on the Silberseas passenger Facebook page but admins have rejected my honest, truthful post! Do they only accept positive comments dhich do not reflect on what the Silversea's cruises really offer???
Booked the grill for this evening. Waited ¹ an hour and a half hour for and indoor table as it was too cold to sit outside. Ordered a steak and fries. Only the steak arrived. No fries as I'm coeliac. Nobody said the fries were not gluten free. When I queried this I was told I could replace the fries with a jacket potato although steak would have been stone cold when my jacket arrived. NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR 6 STAR CRUISE! When I spoke to another passenger, she said her mother was served a plate of lettuce leaves due to her dietary requirements. TOTALLY unacceptable for 6 star service!!!!
I also asked for a quote on another cruise but was given a quote for a totally different cruise for a different passenger, supposedly in our suite. What the heck are silverseas doing!!! So much for GDPR????

If you're looking for a six star experience, you won't find this on a Silversea cruise.

Silversea failed in the following areas:
Transfer delay airport to hotel.
Delay availability of cabin.
Food/plates tepid- reported to Restaurant Manager, but no improvement ensued.
Dishes sometimes lacked flavour.
Eight restaurants existed on Silver Nova. I only experienced 6* quality occasionally over a 23 day cruise. The service however was excellent.
Content of lectures was poor.
The entertainment post dinner was very limited and of poor quality.
Stage performances were not exceptional, as expected on a six * cruise.
Instances when there was a lack of proper guidance from ship to coaches for excursions.
Standard of excursions was sometimes poor- longer transit duration than advertised and some required self-navigation of city/venue.
At the end of the cruise a serious situation had arisen at home requiring me to return urgently. Silversea knew of my situation, but wanted almost £500 more than British Airways quoted for the same flight. Profiteering off a passenger seems both wrong and unprofessional, so in view of my comments above I would take great care when deciding which company you cruise with.

SILVER SEA WARNING TO OTHERS. to be one of the poorest cruise…

Got to be one of the poorest cruise companies ever. Their 6 star ultra luxury cruise was more like a 3 star cruise going by my previous cruising experience.
Our chauffeur driven private car was a dirty council badged Uber with a driver who could barely speak English and very kindly allowed us to lift our own cases in and out of his Skoda
I was on the Silver Spirit Ship which was more like an old ferry. It was dirty & very dated. This holiday and all of its literature was massively over sold, ( as agreed with Trading Standards ) over priced with lots of hidden extra’s. Eg. The free wi fi only works if you pay to upgrade it, at a cost of 200$ a week. Your ultra inc wine is a choice of house red, white or rose, if you want anything other than house wines then you need to pay for it. Your on board credits can only be used to purchase ridiculously over priced products & services in shop or spa. Eg over 200$ for a 45 minute massage or perfume which was more than double the price from airports. The casino closes very early 12pm possibly 1am at latest and is not open during daylight hours, The pool staff were virtually invisible through the day good luck finding beds and towels or getting a drink from the bar. On this cruise it seemed to be seriously understaffed. Certainly not 1:1 ratio as advertised. We were sold a personal butler but found out when on board he served over 20 cabins & doesn't serve most of the day. We were quicker going for our own drinks than asking the butler. And no butler service at all between 12-4pm ??? We had a very poor experience with Silver Sea, it’s quite sad when the director of the ship tells you personally “since Royal Caribbean took over the company there’s been nothing but cut backs in all departments and services every attempt is being made by the new owners to cut cut cut ”Poor show Silver Seas and when you put in a complaint afterwards with pictures and evidence you are completely ignored! I would strongly advise to avoid this company. Far far better proven companies out there to choose from

Oh my goodness!!

Oh my goodness!! I was enquiring about a cruise.. I emailed them to call me, as it’s a charged call if you call them. In the meantime I had looked at the reviews and was instantly put off.. I had no intention of booking a cruise with Silverseas. A woman called Maria rang me, I said I had changed my mind, she asked why, I told her the reviews had put me off, she asked what kind of reviews! Have you not seen them I asked, the response shocked me, but didn’t surprise me after reading the reviews..“we don’t take any notice of reviews as they’re not verified” She then tried to convince me that they were a brilliant company and deal with all claims and always refund money!! Not according to the reviews I say..”they’re just people who want to complain, they’re making it up”. As a single female pensioner, I think I had a narrow escape thanks to the reviews.

Fantastic cruise

Embarkation was a breeze, within 15 minutes we had an our cabin and off to lunch. From start to finish the service was impeccable, I didn’t find any staff who weren’t friendly and helpful. The food was great with plenty of restaurant choice. For a small ship the entertainment staff were very good. The guest lecturers were very interesting. Cabins are large with shower and bath, a walk in wardrobe and king size bed, there is also 24 hour room service. Also the included excursions are good. We thoroughly enjoyed our cruise although we did miss one of the ports we were looking forward to because of bad weather. As the title says, fantastic cruise.

If you have booked the South Africa…

If you have booked the South Africa cruise cancel it! Trust me! Believe it or not, we are the type of people that Never complain, we always find a silver lining… this has been a VERY EXPENSIVE boat ride! We have been to SA before and I bragged about it…but I feel badly for our friends that have not! WE HAVE SEEN NEXT TO NO WILD LIFE. Everyone know’s you don’t go out in the middle of the afternoon.. but they sell out the morning so there you are! You can’t go anywhere at any of the ports, it is too dangerous, first time I have done No shopping! :) Go to South Africa and explore and then go on a beautiful safari and fly to different areas! This is a night mare!!!!!!! But everyone on the ship is lovely! Give them a 9 out of 10 for that! Food 6, excursions 1minus!
