Sipgate Basic Subscriber

I have been a subscriber to the Sipgate Basic service for some time now and I have to admit that I'm very impressed!

Considering the Basic service is offered free of charge, it is extremely reliable and the "line" sound quality is excellent. Outgoing call charges are reasonable too.

great

I should have made the move to Sipgate a long time ago but was generally put off VoIP years ago after a bad Vonage experience in 2005. Sipgate Basic is night and day by comparison and I honestly can't fault this service or company.

It was easy to get setup with a cheap Grandstream HT801 chosen to enable us to continue to use our existing analogue DECT handset. Calls are crystal clear, cheap and paid for on a pay as you go top up basis. Caller Id just works and it's free. Voicemail, email notifications of voicemails and missed calls, the ability to forward calls to mobile are included features and are all free.

The next move here is to port our landline number to this service, switch to the flat £9.95 per month UK call package and wave bye to Virgin Media.

I SHOULD HAVE DONE THIS SOONER

I've looked at all voip companies for residential customers over a 2 month period and sipgate kept jumping to the front of the queue so I signed up a month ago I'm so glad that I did. The call quality is excellent and much of the features are free all of which would cost with BT etc.I sent 2 messages to the team both were answered within 24hrs and I found help on the site for just about any problem that I may have in the future. If you want all the bells and whistles, perhaps you should go elsewhere but if all you want is a excellent low cost and honest provider, then look no further.

Super service

Goodbye BT, farewell TalkTalk. Got rid of the landline entirely, despite the nervy misgivings of the wife. We have never looked back.

Sipgate is not a flashy service. I wonder sometimes that they do not promote it more or upgrade design etc. But I can't fault the ease and simplicity of the service. Line quallity is very good, I get virtually all the services I had before at no extra cost, with the bonus that I get a extra line (at least, I haven't tried to see if there are more). So while 'er indoors is on the phone, I can still receive other calls or make one myself. Perfect!

Cost-wise it's a no-brainer. I carefully compared Sipgate with other Voip providers before deciding. We don't make a huge number of calls on this service as we mostly eat up our free minutes on our mobiles first. As such I stuck with pay-as-you-go and my costs have plummeted from around £50 a month when I was with BT to about £6 a month with Sipgate. That is incredible.

You can also easily track all your usage via their website and answer calls on your mobiles or PC. All in all I think it is superb, especially for the money, and would highly recommend switching.

Best !

After using many voip services, I then tried starting 2018. sipgate UK on a basic account paying £10 each month for unlimited calls, call forwarding, voicemail. All the basics which I am really happy with. It’s a small company which puts my trust in them that they value customers never had any issues at all with service or support.

Update 21 January 2021:

Still Using sipgate as my main SIP, and have setup a Grandstream UCM which was extremely easy to do.

Cheapest 'home' user VoIP service

Very good service and company who i've used for over 5 years. Cheapest pay ang go for calls and voice clarity is amazing. Customer support has gone down in recent years though to e-mail only based and even then its very slow. Not very good if you need access to NHS 111, Non emergency police 101 and 116xxx numbers as they just fail.

The most confusing VOIP process ever!

The most confusing VOIP process ever!

I hate giving bad reviews but this was far too much effort for something that should be a hassle-free process.

Set it up for 3 local numbers. After jumping through hoops to eventually get the 3 numbers and another round of hoop-jumping to get them activated. There is next to no information on how to divert or forward calls which is the service I required and was assured I was signing up for, it doesn't exist as far as I can see. I submitted a request for help a few months ago to which I have still not received a reply. I have just spent the better part of an hour trying to figure out how to cancel the subscription.

we are using Sipgate in our Family with about 6 accounts in Germany and UK now since more than 13 years and have very good experience with them. as we are travelling a lot and phoning in different countries or phoning from different countries to others, VoIP is very helpful and cheaper than normal. very important for us is the forwarding Service when we are travelling, so our clients just can call the known ( one) number and we get their calls anywhere we are in the world!
For us a big comfort!

Reliable

Have been a customer for a few years. Offers features such as caller display, voicemail etc for free, that my landline provider charges for. Call charges are very reasonable in comparison. They also provide a free local number

I use a softphone (Zoiper) on my PC and the CSipSimple app on my Android phone/tablet. Works great.

Into my second year of Sipgate....

I have been using them for over a year, with no issues. I signed up with a free number, then ported my number over. This has resulted in me having 2 phone lines, which is great. My wife can be on one handset, and I can use the another to simultaneously receive calls.

Having a set of nice Siemens DECT phones, I purchased the VoIP base (N300A) and caller ID call waiting the works, which where all cost options with my old provider.

As a freelance worker, getting voicemails Emailed to my mobile as an MP3 file is great, and free.

No ongoing cost is great, you just pay a very low rate for any calls you make. If you add unlimited calls, its still very good value.

The Zoiper mobile app takes some work and a good data connection to function well.

Trouble at Mill, but an honest company.

Unacceptable customer support. I’ve been without outbound service for a week now and the only response to my support Tickets has been this:

Thank you for contacting our sipgate team helpdesk.

*Due to an ongoing staffing issue we can not guarantee short response times. This affects all UK support teams.
We are already taking the right steps to remediate this unfortunate situation. Please excuse the inconvenience.*

Looks like a company in crisis, I’m considering a complaint to OFCOM.

Update: In the end SipGate did respond to me and apologised for their support issues. They instigated a full refund of all monies and did not bill me for any calls. Therefore I've revised my rating to 3* (+2) for the ultimate resolution, but I would have preferred a working service in the first place.

A fantastic value for money VOIP Service Provider

Reading the reviews, I was a little doubtful but now have no regrets. I recently changed internet providers after getting stung by on-peak call costs. Sipgate has saved me a lot of money on a residential use with its simple tariffs.

Firstly on setting up, its potentially complicated with more work to configure your VOIP Phone or in my case VOIP adapter so I could use my old DECT phone that worked on the BT Network. However, Sipgate provides helpful user guides for a range of the common / popular devices so you just configure as stated in the guide (lots of pictures / screen captures) and hey presto VOIP phone.

The service support seems a bit basic, its not on par with big internet service providers but I felt it was sufficient in getting me online. I didn't pay a penny until I was up and running and then threw them some coins for a monthly subscription that is saving me money. I wouldn't want Sipgate to change as its the savings that make it stand out; the quality of its support pages make it clear they are a company that values customers.

You can chose your own number that stays with you, which is helpful for me as I move around a lot and am tired of telling relatives a new phone number every couple of years. I got the number for free, which was very nice.

On reliability, with a BT Openreach FTTC connection, Superfast Broadband (Vodafone / BT), the service has been near perfect. No crackle or digitization effect on the line, so clear sound and reliable connection in making and receiving calls. Sometimes when dialing to older phones on the BT Networks my number is read as 'International' but this is a small issue.

I am using Sipgate basic on a top up basis. You get caller id as standard (unlike with a normal landline). I am using a Grandtream HT802 with my old analog phone. calls cost next to nothing. My call quality is excellent (I have a fast internet connection). Can only recommend the company as there is no monthly charge.

not sure how this company can stay in business ? One positive thing the give you a local free number.. I been trying to use them for years.. first several years the were to lazy to provide a VOIP app so set up was a nightmare could never use it..

Now the kind of make it easier with ZOIPER free app. But don' get to happy because the quality is so horrible. Customers tell me to call them back on Skype because they can't understand me..

Its a German company and I have to tell you that Germany when it comes to IT and network speed is 10 years behind.. Maybe thats the reason why you can't get quality connections ! Go with a US company !

Horrific Support

This service provides one of the better control panels on the market and the 0845 number was a bargain for how easy it is to remember.

Sadly, the positives end here... the number has stopped working entirely twice in a period of 3-4 weeks. While this is bad in itself due to it being so customer facing, the fact that it takes 2-3 days to get ANY response from the support team, let alone a fix is absolutely unacceptable for such a business critical service.

Needless to say we are now in the process of porting the number to another provider with a view to hosting the PBX software ourselves!
