Unfit for purpose windows and terrible service
We chose SJB windows because we had previously used them on another project. They had done a great job and I had even recommended them to friends. Sadly the company has clearly gone down hill.
When we unpacked the windows and doors we were shocked to find that they were basically not fit for purpose. There were many dents, cracks and marks, previously filled dents and many areas where only a thin layer of primer had been applied. On top of the extremely low quality of finish we had the great disappointment to realise that the design of the windows was not what we had expected. During the design phase we were only shown images of the inside of the windows. No one ever showed us an image of the outside. We didn’t want windows with weather bars down the middle as we were looking for a traditional look. It was our mistake not to notice that the images we were shown were only of the inside. But I would expect a window company to provide drawings of all angles of the windows and to make sure the customer was aware before proceeding to the manufacture stage of the process.
When these problems came to light SJB windows refused to take any responsibility. They were rude and defensive.
In the end, after many emails and painful conversations on the phone they agreed to refund me £1500 to fix the problems myself. This barely covered the work that was needed to be done and obviously could not make up for the fact that the windows we have had to install are full of wood filler and not the perfect brand new windows we ordered.
All in all I was shocked by the poor service and rude attitude of all the staff at SJB windows.
I would strongly advise against working with this company

We have spent years building client relations (even with yourself once upon a time) so we are saddened that you have gone to such lengths to try and ruin our great reputation. Most of the projects we have taken on over the years have been through recommendations, as well as our reviews. Our reviews speak for themselves. We would hope that anyone reading this will swiftly discard your comments, as they are baseless and untrue. We simply can’t of ‘gone downhill’ if 5* reviews continue to be posted every week.
Your joinery was supplied to you to agreed and signed off specifications, without damage and totally fit for purpose. You arrived to collect your joinery in a van which did not have adequate horizontal anchoring points, and it was suggested to you by multiple staff members that you should hire a Luton van or similar for safe and damage free travel. The damage was caused during the 200-mile trip back to your residence. The entrance road to your residence was described as a heavily potholed, bumpy and restricted lane by our courier when the collection was attempted. When you discovered that your joinery was damaged, as a gesture of goodwill, we arranged for your joinery to be collected via courier at our expense so that the damage caused in transit could be addressed. This was to be carried out in a mutually agreed time frame, with the works being carried out in time for you to collect the joinery during your trip to London in the half term period. Upon the courier’s arrival to make collection, your workforce refused to assist in the loading of the joinery, and so your joinery was not collected. You were informed that the damage would still be addressed for you free of charge to try and maintain a good working relationship, although you would need to arrange for the joinery to be transported to our workshop. Your windows are manufactured to a traditional design. The inclusion of a small weather bar to the exterior of your rebated together casements is required for proper weatherproofing, however when you voiced your displeasure with the bars, we offered to remove them for you again free of charge. You had expressed that you had preferred your own carpenter carry out the required repairs, and we agreed to issue you a £1500.00 as a further gesture of goodwill. With your demands becoming so unreasonable we thought this was the best solution.

We have just had 5 new sash windows installed by SJB Windows. Very happy with the process from start to finish. All staff we dealt (sales person, surveyor, admin and installers) with were friendly and professional. Communication was excellent throughout and the work was carried out on the agreed dates and to a high standard. Very happy with the results and would highly recommend them.

Quality Workmanship
I've chosen SJB to do three large full window replacements and one window repair. My experience with SJB was fantastic from start to finish. I am particularly impressed by their outstanding workmanship and the windows look stunning. The consultation was in-depth with many options, the office was very responsive and courteous and the installers were efficient and very tidy. I would definitely recommend SJB for anyone looking for top end quality sash windows.

Excellent quality and customer experience
Excellent experience from start to finish - really happy with the quality of the windows and the installation. I have twice used them to do two sets of very different windows (one sash with an arch), and the process of ordering and surveying for each was very easy, and the team at SJB were always on hand to answer any queries. They also suggested all the various sash pulls etc to be of the style of the rest of the building.
The installations were very efficient both times, and the finish was very professional.
Would certainly advise paying for the quality they offer, and will be a repeat customer if I need any further windows.

Very good, but not without problems
Overall very good, but with a glaring exception. I asked for one of the sashes in the bathroom to be clear instead of frosted glass. When I came home the day they installed the bathroom windows, I noticed that all the glass was frosted. I checked the spec, and my request for one sash clear was very clearly specified. I contacted them and was very disappointed with their attitude. Their first response was, 'Have you considered leaving things as they are?' This was a transparent attempt to avoid making good on something that was clearly their mistake. I said no, I wanted what I paid for, and they said it would be 'very quick' to sort out. I was going on holiday and they said the clear glass would be ready when I was back. As it turned out, it was over 3 weeks after my return before things were rectified - and in all that time I wasn't able to open my bathroom windows as they were screwed shut. Otherwise the installation went well and the windows are excellent - a shame about this incident with the bathroom.

We did and still do apologise for the issue with the frosted glass but would like to point out that although this was human error and does happen from time to time, we certainly offered a gesture to keep the window as it came. We did say straight away this was our issue and of course accepted we needed to resolve this so there was no attempt to avoid correcting the situation. This can be proven by our email thread and saddened to think you would believe we would try to avoid any responsibility at all.
Usually this would be a very quick fix but have found over the last couple of months glass supplies have been very slow or even being sent back after failing our quality control. This of course does delay the process, however we are more concerned about a quality product (as you mentioned earlier in your review) than how quickly we can turn this around. I would like to assure all future clients that quality is above all else.
Overall I'm glad the windows are 'excellent' and would like to thank you for this as this will of course help us to review our processes and make improvements for the future.

Started off very well but went a bit downhill.....
The initial consultation and survey visits were great, very helpful and informative. Communication with the office was also good. But sadly we had a less happy experience with the fitting team. The job over-ran, which was not the end of the world, but I felt the attention to detail on the finish was disappointing. The issues were ultimately resolved, but only after I asked the surveyor to come out and look at the issues himself - he acknowledged that there were a number of things which needed to be rectified. The windows themselves are fine, and I can see that most people have had a happy experience, but I was left feeling a bit a bit flat.
