Very disappointing experience in Skinny
Very disappointing experience.
After updating my card details, payments kept failing. My bank confirmed multiple times that no payment request was even received — meaning the issue was on Skinny’s side. Yet they kept blaming the bank.
I was verbally told my service would not be disconnected while the issue was investigated, but they refused to provide written confirmation despite repeated email requests.
No proactive callbacks (despite promising 24–48 hours). No accountability. I had to chase them constantly.
In the end, I was forced to use a different card just to avoid disconnection — instead of them fixing their own billing system.
Telling customers to “just change cards” rather than investigate is not acceptable.
If there was a negative 1 that is what…
If there was a negative 1 that is what I would rate Skinny. I have been a customer for several years. Recently my modem stopped working. To get any response from the contact us options was pathetic! To talk to someone there is a window of 10am - 2pm but the wait time is longer than that. When I used Facebook messenger, I got sent around in circles or spent hours waiting for a response. Finally had John but didn't solve the problem but I was asked for feedback on performance and service. I have now been without internet for 2 days with no solution in sight. Skinny...you have a lot of very unhappy customers...your advertising is misleading!!!! I have signed up with a new provider and there will be no recommendations from me!
MODEM REPLACEMENT
My modem is not working properly Spent 9 hours over 2 days with their chat help line and still they have refused to replace my modem. I am 80 years old and need reliable means of communication
They cut my Internet off but no help
First they cut my Internet off on a weekend and their Bot said i hadn't paid and sent me in a loop for the next 3 hours. They had forgotten to attach my credit card when I signed up and they had no-one who could fix it after hours I had to wait until Monday morning. No apology either. Now my Internet is down and I spent 3 hours yesterday talking to a Bot and still no internet. Today it's so far been two hours and still no help. Im going to cancel.
Easily the worst Internet experience
Easily the worst Internet experience. Absolutely awful - constantly drops out, there is no customer service at all.
I'm getting rid of them as we speak.
Avoid like Indian Street Food
This has been the worst experience in the history of me dealing with any company. Skinny was supposed to have us ready to go on the 22nd of December as a brand new customer, and after telling us it was good to go, we could see the connection on our devices but it would not connect to the internet. After multiple calls to what felt like and sounded like half the population of Mumbai, we were no closer to having access. Leaving multiple messages on the phone and thru the website, would always take at least a day to respond, and I would have to go through the trouble shooting steps the previous 6 staff members. I rang Chorus and asked them what was happening as I knew the issue was not my end and they informed me that Skinny had failed to provision the line correctly. As it was the day before Xmas at this point many employees were on leave/not interested and even after telling them the line provisioning was the issue, they refused to check and asked me to troubleshoot the modem again and this time send photos as they didnt believe I was the competent one in this situation. I had finally had enough of the run around by this point a dozen people with very little command of the English language (pretty odd for a COMMUNICATION company) and I told them to cancel our services as they cannot provide them. I was smugly informed that I am locked in for a one year contract and according to them, services have been provided by the 22nd. This went on for 2 weeks! Until finally someone rang me who spoke English as first language, only after threatening to take them the to the Telco Disputes and Commerce Commission. After reading my notes and apologizing that they did indeed not provision the line, they would require one more attempt at rectifying the issue so the can uphold the contract their end. An absolute nightmare to communicate with and expecting them to do the one service they provide properly is wholly unreasonable as every single person I spoke to was clearly reading off a script and had a room temperature IQ. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH SKINNY. Paying for huge data packages is far more preferable or just simply going without is a far better time than them. Communications companies should be able to communicate - Skinny cannot. After 2 weeks of fighting with them - if this is how they treat a brand new customer imagine how bad it is once you are locked in for a year with them.
I had a really disappointing experience…
I had a really disappointing experience with Skinny while travelling in New Zealand. I purchased a travel eSIM which never worked after arrival. I contacted customer support and was unable to get the issue resolved, and my case was escalated to technical support, but I never received any follow up.
In the end, I had to purchase another eSIM from a different provider, which worked immediately, as I needed reliable access while travelling. Despite paying for a service that was never delivered, Skinny refused to provide a refund on the basis that the eSIM had been installed, even though it was never usable.
The communication was slow and unhelpful, and the process was unnecessarily frustrating. I would not recommend Skinny to travellers who need dependable service and timely support.
TERRIBLE
TERRIBLE.
Wait 30 minutes to an hour for a response. I reply in less than ten minutes, and then wait a further 30 minutes to an hour for a response!
What is the point of directing us to message-based customer assistance if the response times are so slow? I've wasted my afternoon waiting for help!
Extremely disappointed — and it seems like the negative feedback from other customers has not prompted change.
worst service ever
Bought a Skinny sim to use while on holidays in New Zealand. never again! Can not talk to anyone in regard to what plan you have paid for. Kept getting messages from skinny saying I didnt have enough data on my plan or enough credit when I did. Now have returned to Australia and have taken the sim out of my phone and I am still having amounts taken from my credit account . It won't let me get back into my account to cancel my card details
Just changed from skinny to contact…
Just changed from skinny to contact energy and what a difference. I now have 5 bar reception on my mobile instead of 1-2 and the data speed is incredibly fast AND it's costing me far less per month. Skinny is a rip off
Useless App!!
Skinny as a provider are one of the cheapest but it really is counter productive when their app has major issues with loading and conectivity. I can never seem to load credit, update card info, renew plans or gift credits to other users because the app is ALWAYS having trouble loading! I give up...will be changing companies as its just pointless at this stage. Unfortunately it means I will be changing my entire family over aswel. I really wish they valued their customers enough to fix their app!
ZERO STARS - Avoid at all costs!!
I would give a zero star if I could. AVOID AT ALL costs. The customer service is terrible. The call centre just follows a script and can’t problem solve. I’m shocked Skinny hasn’t gone bankrupt. Bryan in the call centre needs to be fired immediately.
Customer service is terrible
Customer service is terrible, they make you jump through the same hoops over and over until I got so frustrated I joined another ISP so I could get a new modem which was the problem all along. Then they charged me for another month on the same day I finished with them. Obviously I questioned this and was told I could have a 50% refund on the $90 they effectively stole from my bank account. Not happy, going to the commerce commission to try and stop them ripping others off.
Pensioner Exploited
Absolutely disgusted by the way my pensioner mother was treated by your customer service team.
She contacted support because her SIM card randomly lost connection and stopped working. Instead of helping her fix the issue, the representative repeatedly tried to pressure her into upgrading to more expensive plans — first over $50, then $40, then $25, then $17. They would not stop pushing upgrades, despite her making it clear she didn’t want or need one.
This is especially appalling given that you offer $9 plans that are perfectly suitable for elderly customers who just need a basic phone and simple service. Targeting a pensioner with aggressive upselling rather than providing basic support is unacceptable and feels exploitative.
This experience caused my mother unnecessary stress and has completely destroyed our trust in your company. Customer service should help people — not pressure vulnerable customers into spending more money.
Verification process ridiculous
I avoid EVER contacting their customer service
1) because the verification process every time is beyond ridiculous. 3 questions and some of the questions are just not simple things you would know ...and
2) there's always a communication/language issue with customer service just talking in rote and not thinking outside the box
I only stay with them because of their prices, otherwise I would have left long ago and I've given up ever trying to contact them re issues.
Skinny wifi sucks
Skinny wifi is the shittest wifi company on earth it's so slow and always disconnects it's so bad I would rather have no wifi and just do something else than try and get skinnys wifi to work because it's that bad
Those Awful AI Ads made me do it......
I wasn't going to write a review, but after having to suffer those awful AI ads from Skinny, trying to tell us how wonderful they are, I thought I should. Like others I've had extremely poor customer service, if any. Yes, their plans are cheap, but so is their service, You get what you pay for...... which is fine until something goes wrong, and it will.
Cheap plans but HORRIBLE customer…
Cheap plans but HORRIBLE customer service. Cross your fingers that nothing goes wrong or you are in for a world of pain with this company.
Unclear data plans
Unclear data plans
I got charged 296$ for 52gb of data.
Avoid at all cost!
My money was stolen.
I topped up 23$ and It disppeared after that and I don’t know where is my money. It's like my money was stolen.
