I wasn’t sure about this at first but SmartaTutoring has been very helpful with my son. He started in April and there has been a noticeable change in his attitude towards science and English. He was struggling before but his teachers at school have said that he is on track to achieving his target grades.

The only problem I have is the customer service team are very hard to reach via mobile but the manager Ray was very helpful and apologetic when I spoke to her.

I wish I had found them sooner!

My daughter joined Smartatutor in January and attended Maths and English classes, at first she wasn’t sure if the teaching style was for her but we were advised to continue attending as it can take time for her to get used to it. After 2 weeks, she really started to enjoy her English lessons with Gemma. I sat in on one of her lessons and loved the way that she broke down what the examiners are looking for and helped all the students create a perfect answer. Even though the classes had around 10 students, she still made sure everyone was included. I wish I had found them sooner!

Disappointing experience and customer service

Joined after an amazing introduction on (21st February 24) I was very excited with the prospect of this programme for my son to support his GCSE'S.

During the introduction I was asked what I was looking for and what kind of support was needed. I explained my son was struggling with English and help with building confidence and development his learning skills.

However I quickly realised after 2 session it wasn't the best fit for my son and requested a refund. The lessons we're online as expected however the Teacher was teaching 2 exam boards at same time, to a group of about 6, this was confusing and my son found it difficult to keep up. It was a teacher lead group, so my son found it hard to ask for help or discuss his concerns in a group setting and they where given additional homework which already added to his homework work load.

The lessons themselves work for children who can interact online in group sessions and feel confident to ask for help, they provided a WhatsApp group for the students to message any questions however you don't know who your messaging and there's no introduction to the people in the group which has over 20 people.

They did try to offer an alternative for my son; 1-2-1 tutoring However they stated 1-2-1 isnt as beneficial as group session and the price they quoted was nearly double the price of the group session. So despite there help to improve the situation it wasn't a good fit and I found the emails to be condescending.

Finally they agreed to my cancellation request and a refund minus a cancellation fee of £130.

ITS A CON

ITS A CON

The sales person was very pushy and refused to allow me to view the portal before making a payment. I made the payment and for the 'bespoke tailored tutoring package' plus access to the portal. a few days later my son has been put into a class 2 years older than him (despite me stating he is struggling with the work for his own age) they didn't listen to anything we had to say despite keeping us for nearly 2 hours over 2 zoom calls. May I add, the class wats app group had over 50 contact numbers in there, so don't expect your child to have much support.

They have finally issued a refund for the tutoring side however, they are refusing to refund for the portal they advised me to purchase that will assist with the tutoring. The same portal they wouldn't allow me to even view before making payment.

Hi Melissa, thank you for providing your feedback.

Regarding the sales call, we’ve carefully reviewed it to maintain call quality, and have ensured all modules were presented along with an overview of everything included in the revision program. But pre-payment access is restricted due to past incidents of unauthorised downloads.

Unfortunately, your son’s class placement was due to scheduling constraints, leading to a refund for those sessions. Our WhatsApp group aims to provide a supportive community by allowing students to ask questions, learn from each other, along with get support from each one of our english specialists, our tech team, our marking team, and management team, hence why we allow for all students to be together in that support channel. If further support needs to be provided we look to add this to the student's programming to ensure they get the grade boost they need and want. But we do understand your concerns.

Refunds for the accessed program are challenging as mentioned above; had you not accessed it, a refund would be feasible. But in your case due to the program being accessed, we are unable to provide a full refund. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.

Thank you again for taking the time in telling us about your experience as we use this to make sure we are able to provide each parent and student with the best service and care.

All the best.

genuine concerns

Raised genuine concerns following a Facebook advert which was promptly deleted.
To make claims about raising achievement of a student to ‘top of class’ and using CPG guide books as a teaching resource when these are specifically for student lead study is concerning.

Look at reputable companies where reviews are genuine! Only 13 reviews here after 10 years tutoring???

To claim to be expert in so many specialist subjects is absolutely insulting to genuine tutors and teachers. Most definitely not qualified to do this!!

EDIT- many thanks for responding and there are so many inaccuracies in your response I won’t bother to respond to.

However, I am a full time English teacher holding a leadership role within the department. I have tutored usually just one student per academic year. I commented on my personal Facebook account and not my tutor page which I rarely use now.

I maintain your claims and very similar tutoring sites mislead parents significantly for me to genuinely raise concerns. The fact you deleted my comment on Facebook and I did not see your reply confirms the way you set about your business.

Hi Tara,

We appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns with us regarding our Facebook advertisement. We value customer feedback but it is crucial to base reviews on actual experiences with our company and services so families looking for support in future can get a clear idea of how we are able to help students improve their grades, study habits and confidence.

We did see your comment and also sent you a message responding to it to let you know about our services, however we can see this was ignored. We value transparency and authenticity in our business and have over 70 reviews across all platforms. You can see that we are a genuine and very reputable company that has helped over 1000 students improve their grades over the years. We have helped students improve their marks up to 5 grades and have student testimonials, videos and written reviews to show this.

Our tutors undergo rigorous training and possess the necessary qualifications and expertise to support students effectively. Our goal is to provide a high-quality educational experience and contribute positively to each student’s academic journey. We have a team of over 20 tutors who specialise in their individual subjects, they each have qualified teaching status in England and have 8 or more years of teaching experience, including a degree or higher in their specific area of expertise. The majority of them also have exam marking experience and have been heads of their subject departments at school.

Regarding the claims about raising a student’s achievement to the ‘top of the class’ and the use of CPG guide books as teaching resources, we understand your concerns. We have on numerous occasions helped students get top grades in their sets and classes and again have testimonials to show other families this is possible. Secondly, the resource in question for reference is CGP books not CPG books. These are a great resources and we only recommend CGP books for students to use in their personal studies, however we do not use them as a teaching resource in our sessions; we give them direct and structured support based on their individual needs.

We have also seen that you yourself run a tutoring business helping students. Recently we have been informed of another company that has chosen to put negative reviews on our page to lower our rating so parents choose not to come to us and in turn look elsewhere. We assume, in hope that they go to them. If this is the case here, could you please look to remove the review. As the one left above is very similar to several other fake reviews we have received. It is unfortunate that this has to be the way you choose to build your business, but we want to make sure all our reviews are legitimate and represent what we as a business are able to provide for our customers.

If there’s anything specific you’d like to discuss further or if you have any additional feedback, please feel free to contact us directly on 07429261795. We are here to address your concerns.

Sincerely,

SmartaTutoring - Customer Support Team

Edit:
Hi Tara,
We deleted your comment because it is a false representation of our business and was written without the necessary research. We commented to let you know we had responded privately to explain how we help students. We understand there are tutoring businesses out there who mislead parents and students but we cannot all be lumped into the same category. We have multiple articles written about us and have been on several radio stations to discuss supporting parents and students and would be more than willing to discuss this with you further to make you aware of what we do.
We have also taken the time to respond to your comment via facebook messenger along with providing our phone number so you can get in touch with us to clear this misunderstanding up.
It would be very unfortunate for you to leave this comment that misrepresents us and leads parents to potentially miss out on our services.

Highly recommend!

After spending the last 4 years having in person tutors we moved online and wow has it made a difference. Kelly started to interact a lot more and it saved us so much time! The ease of accessing the resources, being able to ask any questions anytime and being able to hop on from anywhere was a game changer for us! After her first set of mocks she jumped 2 grades after a few weeks with SmartaTutoring. We also recommend the Smarta Revision Program as this no doubt helped toward the grade increase. Highly recommend.

Poor service and poor tech use.

This is one of 3 companies that I contacted to assist with GCSE revision.
Sadly the 'salesperson' we were assigned was patronising and rude. His communication skills and use of the technology was poor which he openly admitted he thought was 'my fault'
Arrogant sales pitch
Not a company I would do business with due to first and lasting impression.

Hi Theresa,

Thank you for your feedback. We believe there to be a misunderstanding as you have never used our services. We value customer feedback but it is crucial to base reviews on actual experiences with our company and services so families looking for support in future can get a clear idea of how we are able to help students improve their grades, study habits and confidence.

We are committed to providing excellent customer service so our team took the time to look at your sales call and messages you exchanged with our GCSE specialist.
However, upon reviewing the call and messages in question, we found that it was a positive interaction where our specialist provided the information and assistance you were seeking. We can also understand that the tech issue was not an ideal one, especially from an online service provider, but sometimes technical issues do occur and we worked to resolve this as quickly as possible.

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We understand the importance of first impressions and strive to improve based on customer feedback.

Alex joined SmartaTutoring at the beginning of the last school year. He started taking GCSE Biology and Physics online group lessons and within the first few weeks was already seeing an increase in confidence. We received his results in August and he achieved all 8s and 2x9s. An amazing increase from the predictions he had of 6s/7s. We highly recommend the sessions as they cover all the required content in great deal, the teachers are engaging and they have regular checkins and practice provided.
Thank you so much SmartaTutoring and team!

I couldn’t recommend SmartaTutoring more. If your child wants to boost their grades in GCSE or ‘A’ levels this is the place for them. We sent our son here from year 10 to year 13. He has now been accepted at his first choice University and is studying Medicine. We are so proud of him and happy that SmartaTutoring helped him along the way.

Our daughter Helen joined…

Our daughter Helen joined SmartaTutoring in October of her year 13 year needing support with A Level Biology and Chemistry. She needed an A/A/B to get into her first choice university and program and was missing the mark with a B/B/D. She was struggling with the content, organising what to study and when, and her confidence was down. After a year of getting sessions she opened up her results and got an A*/A/B. We are so unbelievably proud of her and thankful to Smarta for everything they have done!
