Title: £1,203 Taken From My Business Account Without Warning – Complaint Still Unresolved
I am extremely disappointed with the way SmartestEnergy has handled my business electricity account.
We moved into a business premises and I informed the supplier that the account needed to be set up under my company name. Despite several attempts from my side to arrange this properly, the account setup was not handled correctly.
In January and February 2026, the company deducted multiple payments from my business bank account without any prior notice or agreed payment plan:
• £321.77 on 28 January 2026
• £321.77 on 29 January 2026
• £321.77 on 30 January 2026
• £237.78 on 02 February 2026
Total withdrawn: £1,203.09
These consecutive withdrawals pushed my business account into an overdraft and caused bank charges and serious disruption to my business cash flow.
I raised a formal complaint with SmartestEnergy (Case Ref: AIS7529066), requesting an urgent refund and investigation. Unfortunately, the issue remains unresolved and communication has been very poor.
To make matters worse, during a recent phone call with customer service, the representative I spoke to was extremely rude and dismissive, which was completely unacceptable.
As a small business owner, having over £1,200 taken unexpectedly from my account has caused unnecessary financial stress and operational disruption.
I hope SmartestEnergy will take this review seriously, resolve this complaint urgently, and improve their billing and customer service processes so other businesses do not experience the same situation.

Jamie Lee took all of the hard work out of registering a smartweb account by doing everything so all I needed to do was click activate and it was done.
She was one of the most helpful (and cheerful) people I have dealt with, very glad to have switched supplier after this.

We have used Smartest Energy for approximately one year now and we are very happy with them. Their bills are clear and straightforward and have had great customer service on the rare occasion we have had to contact them.

Update 31 March - nothing! still not heard back from anyone at Smartenergy. Ollie customer service, nothing. Now consulting solicitors to enforce my contract
Update
Smartest energy requested my contact details which I provided, I have still heard nothing. I have emailed again and received no response. I emailed the agent Ollie, customer services and the CEO Robert Groves. Still no reply.
I signed a contract with Smartest energy on 18 February 2026. There was a changeover date of 25 February. I wanted to get the energy meter readings over and contacted the company by email. I had no reply so I contacted by phone Ollie who I set the contract up with. He said he would get the account number over within a couple of days. It had now been a week and again I have heard nothing. I received an energy bill from my previous supplier this morning so no change over has happened. I emailed again this morning and have had not reply

The Customer Services contact Jamie was very helpful in answering several questions I had about 5 different accounts; 3 recently extended plus 2 others switched from another provider. All my questions were resolved.

Not very impressed with Customer services so far but finally after 2 weeks of trying to sort out a problem about being overcharged VAT, I spoke to Sharnah who actually moved it forward to the right department. Fingers crossed, this will now to rectified and a refund will be received.

EDIT: Can’t reply to their response. My account is for company Sailor Tattoo Ltd.
I’ve closed my business due to health issues and did the moving out of the premises procedure through their online portal on 10th December 2025.
They continued to charge me by direct debit, so I called them. Been informed to email their accounts closure team, which I did in february 2026 as I was severely ill and assumed it was all sorted with everything related to my business so only opened my bank account in February 2026 when recovered from my illness.
They asked for a copy of the lease, landlord details and photo of the meter. Ive sent those.
Then they asked for a full copy of the lease as Ive sent first and last page only, which Ive sent it again.
They make the closure of account extremely difficult and continues to charge my bank account for consumption I did not use, when filled the portal none of this was requested and they are not responding about refunding the charges made into my account since 10th of december 2025.
Not an energy provider I would use again and do not recommend their services due to the way they deal with their customers when they close or move out of a premises.
With other companies such as water company or other electricity companies I’ve used in the past everything worked through the portal and never had this type of issues with waterplus, ruby energy, scottish power or any other provider so I didn’t expect to have to go through this.
Smartestenergy seems to prefer to get some extra money from one customer instead of providing quality service so the customer return.

The absolute most useless company on Earth. Terrible customer services, can barely understand their phone operators who can just about form a sentence in English. Takes them forever to pick up the phone and even longer to resolve any issues you have. Don’t use them ever!
