Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 223 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the payment process, often finding it difficult or impossible to pay for parking, leading to unexpected fines. People frequently reported issues with the appeal process, stating that their detailed explanations and evidence were ignored, and appeals were consistently rejected, often resulting in increased charges. Reviewers also highlighted problems with the clarity of parking signs and payment methods, which they felt were often inadequate or misleading. The service was widely criticized, with many feeling that the company's primary intent was to issue fines rather than facilitate parking, leading to what some described as excessive payments and questionable practices. Customers also noted that fines would escalate rapidly, sometimes without prior notification, and that debt collectors were involved, causing significant stress and financial burden.

If I could give minus stars I would

If I could give minus stars I would. I paid for my session using the Ringo app after I parked as that is supposed to an option at the venue Pullar House which is owned by Perth and kinross Council. I paid for what I thought was the correct time then realised within 10 mins of leaving that I had done the wrong sums so paid the extra and all is recorded in the app but in two separate receipts. Smart Parking is not smart enough to pull this data so I have been fined. I appealed attaching my receipt without realising it was only for the first parking period so they have rejected it and continued to fine me. Very stressful. Just recovering from long covid and find this all a huge toll on concentration etc. Need it like a hole in the head. The number of signs at this venue are overwhelming too. I only go when no other options as it is so awful. I think now I will never go again no matter how bad it is...

Unfair, Unprofessional, and Oppressive – Avoid Smart Parking at All Costs

I have never experienced such an appalling level of conduct from a company. Smart Parking issued me with a Parking Charge Notice dating back nearly four years, despite the fact that I was explicitly authorized by my employer to park at the premises in question.

No Notice to Keeper was ever received at the time, which meant I was denied my legal right to respond or appeal within the statutory deadlines. Instead, the first I heard of this alleged charge was via a letter from a bailiff — years later. This delay is not only unreasonable, it is contrary to the standards set out in law and the British Parking Association’s own Code of Practice.

To make matters worse, Smart Parking have repeatedly passed my details between multiple debt collection agencies, causing unnecessary stress and confusion. This behavior is oppressive, aggressive, and arguably an unfair trading practice.

When I complained directly, setting out their clear procedural failures, the response was dismissive and unhelpful. They simply insisted the charge “still stands” without addressing the points I raised.

This is not how a professional or reputable company should treat people. Their approach is unfair, their processes flawed, and their customer service non-existent. I would strongly urge anyone to avoid sites operated by Smart Parking and to be extremely cautious when dealing with them.

If I could give this company a 0 I would!

If I could give this company a 0, I would. Please search the parking area to see if it is monitored by smart parking and if so, do not park there! They are issuing ridiculous fines and do not consider any circumstances. Their aim is to make money.

We purchased a paper ticket at Margate…

We purchased a paper ticket at Margate for 4 hours and had a great day out.

Around a month later, giving enough time for the ticket to be lost or binned we received a PCN stating we had overrun our allotted time.

The PCN indicated the time of entry/exit as being 3 hrs 50mins within the 4 hours but they did not state the time period we had payed for to prove any error.

Simple scam, customer cannot prove so has to pay some money.

Without proof we coughed up the £60.00 and moved on.

If you have to use their parking do not get a paper ticket or retain for at least two months for proof.

There is no one to contact and email gets no response unless you copy in theipc who they list on their site.

There have been numerous complaints with the local authority and dreamland who are very sympathetic but cannot help.

Avoid at all times where possible or use RingGo.

Dreadful bullying company…

Despite being informed by the proprietor of the Three Horseshoes to cancel my parking penalty charge they still continue to harass me.
Their signage in the car park was not legible and no terminals were visible within the pub either.
Their threatening emails come from a no reply email address and their customer service is very poor and unprofessional.
Not surprisingly their contract with the pub in question has been cancelled.

Another 1* rating for this despicable…

Another 1* rating for this despicable company, I returned to my car as the ticket was being issued and the attendant said he would cancel the fine and let me off with a warning, removing the ticket from the car so effectively I have never received notification, and they are now chasing payment and have increased the fine....

Disgraceful company

Disgraceful company. Paid for a full days parking but received a £60 fine for not having an additional permit - no obvious signs indicating this. Just an excuse to rinse money out of decent unsuspecting people. Should be ashamed of themselves.

Smartparking at capability green in…

Smartparking at capability green in Luton hide their signage near shrubs in the parking lot and on investigation after being fined for going to a biometric appointment at TLS the sign actually says “report to reception” which I did at TLs. Even after sending proof of my appointment they continued to impose the fine saying I hadn’t paid for parking or registered my vehicle. The sign does not say register your vehicle just report to reception. TLS take you straight in on a barcode so there is no other reception to report to or register your car if that’s what they were meaning by report to reception. Complete money making sham and TLS should also warn you ahead of time.

A nasty nasty company

A nasty nasty company. How do these people sleep at night.
My wife’s ticket didn’t print out fully and she didn’t notice until a charge was issued. Appealed as it was obvious that a ticket had been purchased without the full registration.
Usual BS blah blah blah.
Appeal denied.

Rotten scoundrels!

Parked at the Three Horseshoes pub in Norton (Letchworth) for 13 minutes once and 11 minutes once as I was using the parcel locker to drop off two parcels. I have been back down there and there is no sign whatsoever to say about a parking charge! I since received two parking tickets, (in company van so now boss is involved and forcing me to pay.) As I didn't have £120 at the time to throw away. I had to wait until payday but by that time it had been doubled. I tried to appeal both but received no response until the appeal date had passed! (Clearly done on purpose obviously) they are dirty rotten scum. I now have been passed to a debt collection agency. Owing £340. How do these companies get away with this! I'm so annoyed and disappointed. I always pay my way while parking and have no problem paying if I parked wrong. But this is clearly a scam! Thieves! Don't bother appealing it's a waste of time.

Time For Hospitals to use a different company

Smart Parking operate a smart system !!
In my case they failed to comply with the 14 day notice as required when a notice has not been placed on the vehicle at the time.
I appealed and had a proforma response that failed to address the subject of my appeal at all.
This was a hospital charge involving my 93 year old Mother.
The Hospital Trust at Stratford are as responsible as they employ this company and benefit from the process.
Of course I paid the fine as to challenge it is pointless

Charged twice for the same offence

On the 16/06/2025 I parked at the Royal Infirmary Perth and got my display ticket to place on my dashboard. I saw free parking and didn't read for 4 hours. I got back 10 hours later with a well deserved parking charge in my windscreen that was issued at 13h00. Grudgingly I paid this the next day to get a £30 reduction and thought this was over.
However 2 weeks later I got another parking charge for the same day but this charge was issued at 12h00, 1 hour before the charge that I had already paid. Going through the appeals process explaining that I have no issue paying a charge but being charged 2 times for the same offence is not fair or right. The first charge was photos taken, details submitted but NOTHING attached to the vehicle for the next parking attendant to see the vehicle was charged already. The way they operate is highly questionable as the response from my appeal was that the charge was correctly issued, no mention of the fact that I was charged twice but I can appeal this with the IAS.
After careful thought, how can I appeal this as the charge was issued correctly, I have no way of proving that I didn't leave the car park and return as that is not allowed. I will look into trading standards as this should not be allowed to continue.

Very unprofessional outfit

Very unprofessional outfit. They misread the reg number - mistaking a 'V' for a 'Y' and so I ended up with a charge. They obviously didn't bother to check the actual car model as my car is a Renault and the picture on the charge shows a Skoda. Took them 6 weeks to reply to my email. No acknowledgment of their mistake. No apology. Just confirmation that the charge would be cancelled "on this occasion".

SmartParking are unethical, Avoid like the plague

I parked on a Smart Parking car park in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Delamere Street OL6 7JL on the 6/6/2025
Both Machines were out of order & the online app wasn't working - stated No Rate Available, I took pictures of the machines & the App notification.

I receive a fine for £100 if paid within 28 days reduced to £60, I appealed to Smart Parking, explaining & providing my photographic evidence, to receive an email stating "we have decided to uphold the parking charge" my options are now to pay the £60 or appeal further to IAS, however if I do & they reject my appeal, the reduced rate will no longer be an option & I will have to pay £100, which I feel is a bully boy tactic.
I will be Appealing & Urge others to avoid any Smart Parking sites in the future!

Two week holiday

We came for a two week stay, to relax and take it easy, so we decide to visit siblyback reservoir. We attempted to pay at the machine, (in the pouring rain) we were unable to get the machine to work. Another person at the machine said it was out of order, after several attempts we got in the car and left. I am disabled and have adaptations on the steering wheel to enable me to drive, I do not flaunt parking payments unnecessarily. I DON’T THINK I WOULD LIKE TO VISIT CORNWALL ANY TIME SOON, AS THINGS LIKE THIS DO NOT ENCOURAGE VISITORS. If I could give no stars then I would.
