While we don't verify specific claims because reviewers' opinions are their own, we may label reviews as "Verified" when we can confirm a business interaction took place. Read more

Simple enough process requesting PPR for Wickenby, with PPR request and PPR approval emails both coming through OK

Although the cafe was being rebuilt tea was provided by the most helpful receptionist.

It was an easy process, but airfields should not abandon the option to give PPR via telephone as well.

Takes the pain of PPR away. I wish more airfields used this system, it's always such a nightmare trying to figure out new random forms on a new airfield's website. SmartPPR makes the experience predictable and consistent and easier to handle payments too.

It all worked fine, but I'm growing a dislike of airfields that insist on online PPR. It doesn't assure me the runway is open and usable, and doesn't give me runway in use and weather conditions which is a safety concern, so I'll inevitably end up ringing the airfield anyway, which renders these services redundant and a pointless waste of time. On top of that, I'm now being nagged by multiple emails asking for a review, so here you go - you asked for it!

Just for guys that are putting 1 star:
This service is used by airfields that is why you are getting request to review. If not this service, then you would still most likely need to call the airfield for PPR, which obviously is less convenient than doing it online. Nobody likes idea of PPR, but unfortunately for a moment it is the case in UK, and without major change in regulations (i.e fund GA aerodromes from public money - not gonna happen) its going to be the case for most of aerodromes. PPR is a way to reduce A/G and FIS controllers workload, and anything that makes it at least a little bit easier should be appreciated.

PPR was quick and simple to do, there was no waiting on a telephone line, wondering if someone was there or waiting for the line to become free. Also I could submit my request on a time that suited me.

I was unaware I have even used “smart PPR” so not sure why I’m being asked to review!
PPR is just pointless British red tape invented by people who like to make lists. That’s why it’s not required at airfields in most other countries, particularly US and France. Airfields should be open unless they are NOTAMED closed! No need for any paperwork or advanced requests!
Yes for farm strips that don’t advertise themselves as open then you need to call in advance.
Regarding the reply, there is no regulation requiring PPR. I’m not sure why U.K. airfields need it for planning when other much busier airfields outside the U.K. don’t need it at all. All that says is U.K. airfield operators aren’t very efficient. If a restaurant is full or a long wait, I’ll go somewhere else, similarly if an airfield has full parking I can go somewhere else, you take your chance but with the ability to just drop in anywhere.
Half the airfields who ask for PPR just tell you the runway in use and the QFE! They don’t even take your registration, so don’t know whether you have any PPR or not, of course it doesn’t matter as it’s all pointless. Most of the other half just fill out their form with the registration, type and where you are coming from and do nothing with it. Similarly with the automated ones.
It’s a plague that’s infested the U.K. companies like yours just make it worse because it makes it easier for airfields to collect pointless data, rather than just saying it’s unnecessary and they probably increase landing fees to pay for your service contact.
