Over-priced multiple appointments and inability to deal with enquiries and complaints

If I could I’d give a zero star review.

My first call to Skerries was for an emergency which was diagnosed but no actual work done to address the issue. I was back in two days in continued pain at which point the tooth was filled temporarily until I could get in for root canal. So I’ve now paid for two consultations to be pain free instead of one.

And yesterday I am three root canal appointments down. I cannot fault the technical ability of Dr Laura Fee, and having paid for the root canal in full having three appointments totally over four hours of work is good going I think. The work is good and I have been pain-free since the first appointment.

Now to the crux of the matter: I got home yesterday directly from the clinic and went straight to work at home. I did not move from the house for the day. In the evening I discovered what looks like bleach marks on the black hoodie I’d worn to the appointment and through the day. On mailing the clinic asking for advice and input I received an initial good mail, which then turned quite aggressive when I took up their offer for the doctor’s input. Suddenly I was now required to present myself in person for a review. The time away from work and the additional costs of the half-hour drive to the clinic are, quite frankly, worth a lot more than the hoodie itself. I was expecting a call perhaps or a note with feedback from Dr Laura Fee, nothing more.

At the point of writing this review the clinic continues to hide behind “company policy” that seems designed to make it as difficult as possible for customers to engage in matters of this nature. I’m also in the dark as to how this is a “clinical matter” as the responder insists it is, as they won’t answer that question.

Further update: I’ve now been gaslit as being aggressive and confrontational in insisting that they adhere to their own web-published T&C, by dealing with my matter internally before going to the dental complaints service.

It seems that their MO is to obfuscate and then accuse YOU of being inappropriate to avoid dealing with what was a very simple matter.

The purpose I suppose of this review: beware the smiles here: they belay an aggressive anti-customer ethos that seems to favour multiple appointments as considerable cost and to make any other engagement as inconvenient as possible.

This is going to make having to go back in 3 months that for the crown fitting very awkward and challenging. Perhaps I might need to go to someone else as I don’t feel the back office team here have the customer’s back.

Rude, disorganised and unempathetic service from Smiles Hub on 2 occassions

I attended the Skerries clinic for a consultation. I noted everywhere that I am a nervous patient due to a lifetime of dental mistreatment and abuse. The dentist had no empathy for this. At the late start of the appointment I asked the nurse if I could keep my sunglasses on as I find it helps me disassociate. She said she thought it might be okay, but the dentist without asking whipped my sunglassess off my face, took them away and handed me the official ones. Throughout the consultation she was was brusque, and did not discuss what she was doing or why she was doing it with me. I eventually had x-ray plates shoved in my mouth without being told why and x-rays taken. She then told me I need a cleaning and offered me a time a week later at 7h30 in the morning. I expressed that this might be too early for me with a young child but she said the next available appoinment is months away so I was given a choice of really early or nothing. She also provided my with a very expensive quote for the treatment I was enquiring about, and made it clear that it was so expensive I wouldn't do it and I was just wasting her time. I said yes to the really early appointment and then they told me to get the confirmation from the secretary on the way out, The secretary had no idea what she was supposed to give me, so I left have forgotten the date as I was by this time retraumatised. I then had a panick attack in my car because the service I had recieved brought alll the medical trauma I have suffered at the hands of dentists to the fore. A few days later I found the courage to phone and enquire as to when the hygeniests appointment was. I then recived around 5 appoinmnet reminders over email and mobile. I got prescription calming tablets for the appoinment and took them on the 20 min drive to the appointment, having woken up my young son so that if I had another panick attack my husband could be there. I took two calming tablets only to recieve a call 8 minutes before the appoinment that the hygeniest is sick. I'm not being refunded for my prescription or for my now wasted Saturday morning with a tired boy and a mum who is woozy, I still need to have my teeth cleaned. And I am left with the choice of either having to suck it up and go to the one clinic near me who offers the conscious sedation I need for dental treatment but whose dentists and service I am not impressed with or go to a dentist much further away who also offeres the conscious sedation. I really feel that this clinic didn't pay any attention to me as a patient and the treatment and service I need.
