I ordered books last week from this site only to find my order had been confirmed then cancelled for no reason. I tried to open my account to track order and page was not found - I've had to cancel my card, very clever scam. Please avoid this website.

I have also left this review on the review site that the company links to.

Having been badly let down for a really important order that I needed in order to prepare for a postgraduate talk that I am presenting next week, to my dismay I discovered the string of reviews on here.

I opted to pay extra for Saturday delivery. Of course, in line with the common experience the payment has not been processed despite all being well with my card and no book has arrived as my website login shows that the book has not been dispatched.

I'm trying to work out whether as suggested by others this company is operating fraudulently in order to gather credit card details or whether the website payment provider has been experiencing issues and the company is too incompetent to sort it out. I would urge you not to use this company and as I suspect mass fraud is a real possibility I'm about to report them to the relevent authorities.

Cancelling my card to be on the safe side is especially catastrophic at this time of year.

Book never came, scam

I ordered two books on Thursday and this morning I received an email saying my order had “failed”! This is after receiving an email on Thursday confirming my order. Seems like we are all having the same experience with this company. For me it is an unrepeatable experience.

I tried 3 times to place an order only to have emails the following day to say the order was cancelled!! I have sent numerous emails but have not had one reply & they are still advertising the book I ordered as being in stock. I would never order from them again & actually wonder if they do exist. Very disgusted with their customer service.

Ordered some books with them for my daughter only to find out after two days that they have cancelled my order without any reason! Seems like a scam to take money..

It's a SCAM for goodness sake, they only send out emails to say that orders have failed, not one way you can track down your order or see it even if you login into the account. DO NOT EVEN TRY THIS SITE. Avoid it.

I'm having the same problem. I ordered a book for my husband for Christmas and order was confirmed etc. then a day later I got an email saying my payment couldn't go through. Trouble is I can't remember which card I used to pay for it, so don't know which one to cancel. No money has been taken yet on either of my cards, so I am keeping fingers crossed that it never will by these people.

Exactly the same issue as everyone else, how do these people get away with this for so long?? Please avoid - not cancelled any cards yet, but feel a bit of a mug.

Same here, luckily for me the money had not yet been taken off my credit card, it looked like the payment had not gone through, it had timed out, so I did it again. It was only the fact that they sent me two email confirmations of my order that alarm bells ringed, so I googled then to find a telephone number and trustpilot came up and I read all these reviews. My credit card company have blocked my card and are sending out a new one, not great when there’s still Christmas shopping to be done, but good that they will not be getting a penny out of me. I will also report to google etc

I feel like a mug after reading these reviews! I bought a book for my sister for Christmas on Smyths Books, then after a day or so the transaction failed. I thought perhaps it was because I had a new card, so tried again... and it failed. I’ve since read the reviews and looks like they’re a dodgy company. I’m now on hold to my bank to cancel my new debit card! So annoying!!

AVOID THIS COMPANY
They have a very professional website, however, it's a scam company, as I have a similar experience as other who complaint. No communication since they confirmed my order on the 23rd of November. I have now canceled my card.

Sadly the same story as others here. Placed order, order "failed", then when you go back and check the website, it has all the hallmarks of a scam. No contact phone number. I also suspect a fake Feefo trusted service declaration. One debit card cancelled.

Update: Feefo have confirmed that Smyths books did hold an award, but that it is no longer valid.

Tried to order the same book twice from them. Both times, after two days, I received an email saying "your order has failed". Clearly, the book is out of stock and they have failed to update their website. Complete waste of time.

Do not use this site. I’ve tried twice to order books with a credit and debit card. Both times it says order has failed! Do not use. Have cancelled cards as precaution. Seems like a scam site.

Well what can I say the same thing has happened to me. I so wish I researched this so called company before I placed an order and now having to cancel my debit card. Please avoid this company at all cost.

Emailed customer service 5 days ago re: cancelled order (as all the reviewers below have said) Having not received a response started to do some looking into the company and realised it’s a scam website. I’ve cancelled my debit card to be safe.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Complete SCAM with only one purpose - still your card details.
Made 2 orders and both got cancelled with no explanations.
None of my emails were answered. No phone number.
I had to cancel my debit card.

WARNING! Avoid www.smythsbooks .com. I've been scammed! I thought this was related to the popular Smyths Toy Store. I have a lot of money to get back and now got a lot of Christmas presents to re-buy! Just in the last 24 hours I see large numbers of others posting a similar 'scam' review. Hugely upset.
