Refusing to issue a refund simply…

Refusing to issue a refund simply because the toy bag was opened. However, your staff did not advise me to read the policies printed on the back of the receipt. Realistically, who reads the back of a receipt—especially parents who are already busy managing their children?

Your staff should be clearly informing customers about important policies at the point of purchase, particularly for items like this. No such information was provided to me, and it is unreasonable to expect customers to discover this on their own after the fact.

To be clear, my concern is not about the opened packaging, but about the inaccurate and misleading age guidance provided on the product. This is the core issue.

I have now spoken with my solicitors, and they will be contacting you regarding this matter. At this stage, it has become a legal issue due to the misleading information provided and the failure to properly inform customers of your policies at the time of purchase.

Be very careful

Travelled 30 miles to Xmas shop bought a woody Toy Story remote control car for our grandson

He was away for Xmas so he opened it 13th January played with it once second time he played with it my husband picked it up and Woody came off in his hand exposing the end of a screw sticking out that could have seriously injured my grandson

We had a very bad bug so rang the store they said ring customer services they don’t have a phone number anymore so had to search online how to contact them

Sent photos and all info they wrote asking for more so sent that then they asked for the toy back and said DPD would collect it last Monday I waited in for 3 days DPD didn’t show they had my phone number but went to the wrong address apparently and didn’t bother to find the right address or ring me

I waited in for 3 days they didn’t show

Told Smyths they said I would have to wait again I asked to be refunded in the meantime as this breaches the Consumer Rights Act 2015 which states an item should be fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality but they refused stating they needed the toy back

I got a text from DPD that they would collect today (16th Feb between 12.35 and 1.35pm)

I’m in a small bungalow have a door bell and they had my number as they text me

Just had a message to say nothing was there when they came to collect but they haven’t even been

Can’t believe Smyths are behaving like this and my grandson was upset that the toy broke and he still has no toy a month later disgusting way to treat customers

A friend of ours bought his son the Sonic remote control car a few years ago and exactly the same thing happened Sonic just came away from the car when the dad picked it up exposing a screw so it’s not like Smyths don’t know about this

Just be careful what you buy bearing in mind they won’t resolve this promptly for you and they care if a child is missing a toy they loved

Retail workers deserve better

Personally I can’t say I had a bad experience at Smyths but I just felt the need to mention the experience I had whilst in the line. We were behind a family of three, who apparently had some kind of issue with payment and the mother threw a complete fit swearing and aggressively shouting at the young man behind the till. The worker intelligently didn’t respond to her abuse and allowed her to make a fool of herself while her husband just kept quiet, his personality clearly suppressed by his wife’s temper, before they finally stormed out when they realised the queue behind them was glaring at their behaviour.

We were next and the young man didn’t even look concerned by the abuse he received which I truly do credit him for. I didn’t remember his name tag but he was as polite as any staff member could be. I just wanted to make a note of this as it makes me sick as a mother when I see the kind of vitriol retail workers received just because some idiots are having a bad day.

Great staff

Nice clean, well stocked store with helpful friendly staff. Adam on the bicycle aisle was particularly helpful, he was very patient and gave us some great advice, his product knowledge was excellent and friendly but professional manner.

Excellent customer service from Charlie in Poole

Visited the store in Poole yesterday (sat 15th November).
Extremely helpful staff member assisted me to find what I was looking for as well as helping me to get it as I’m disabled and can’t reach things.
Charlie was helpful, polite and professional and represented the store extremely well.

employee following us outside the mall

we were followed by an employee of theirs till OUTSIDE the mall for absolutely no reason. We only went in to look if they had a specific item from a video game and we left after not finding it, next time don’t hire old men with a full grey beards and glasses to follow underaged minors outside. Do better.

Very uncaring Smyths Toys

when I sent for a sit on toy for my great grandaughter it said free returns when it came it was of no use because she had one so I tried to send it back , I had to take it to a Yodel drop off point etc a shop or post office ( BUT )it has to be no more than 60x50x50 and it was 75x40x40 so I cannot use the company they have given me to return I sent a email and the answer was we can arrange a pick up if you like (BUT) it will cost you £15.00 the nearest Smyths Shop is a all round 80 miles for me to return it free because I live in rural wales I have very little choice , I'm also 70 years old and incapacitated due to needing two new knees a op on both shoulders and a arthritic neck and spine so the drive of 80 miles is not going to happen so I'm stuck with this parcel that cost me £69 out of my pension .So beware any potential buyers for Christmas presents go to places that don't send out goods over their free retern measurements

Amazing service

I ordered a gift for my grandson who lives the other side of the country about 4.15 yesterday afternoon. To my amazement it has already been delivered. I will definitely be using and recommending Smyth's toy superstore from now on

The most horrible online and in store…

The most horrible online and in store experience. Manager in Leicester wasn't any helpful with my exchange. Coventry store has my paid item - scooter, I paid for. My child doesn't have a scooter now. Smyth Coventry store, have kept the scooter and my money due to terrible customer service. I will not patronise Smyth or even recommend. Bad and poor experience

Smyths Leicester customer service - superb

I visited Smyths in Leicester as a I needed a bike.. pretty much immediately from my son for his bikeability at school - his old has failed. I had had terrible service from Halfords down the road. Natalie who was the Leicester manager went above and beyond… along with one of the bike techs to get me a bike there and then. Yep, it was a display model as their wait list for builds was huge and it would have been unfair for me to jump the queue, but the service with friendliness and good humour was second to none. Can’t fault them fir this.

Placed an order online for collection

Placed an order online for collection. Most shops give you at least 5-7 days to collect. This shop only gives you 2. This was confirmed in the email I received after placing the order.
I work full time, I can’t take time off to collect toys. Going to purchase the same item from Argos even though it will cost more. A least they give me a chance to collect the item.

I bought my grandson a bike from Smiths…

I bought my grandson a bike from Smiths says on the wall it says 5 to 6-year-old. My grandson just turned five and it’s too small to took itback to the shop. They said no, we can’t exchange it because there’s nothing wrong with the bike but my argument is it’s not as described and they still won’t exchange it. So won’t be going back to that shop ever again.

Allow bots to buy up all Pokemon…

Allow bots to buy up all Pokemon products then never restock. Can't filter products by 'in stock' so just get to look at all of the items they don't have and will never get back again, so just taking up space on their site.

Awful experience

What an awful experience this morning, I visited smyths toys derby this morning to try and hopefully get a prismatic evolutions eevee pouch box, I entered the store at just passed nine, was greeted by a young man behind the counter, I asked for the box I was after, his reply was I’m sorry they have all gone, I left the store disappointed and went and sat in my vehicle and drank my coffee before work, as I was sat there I saw a young lady and small child come out carrying an eevee box, (the one I asked for) which apparently was out of stock, I thought well I guess they could of brought it and wondered around the shop a while before leaving, a short while after the same happened, a young lady came out again with a small child and again with an eevee box, I approached this lady and told her how I’d been refused and told these items were out of stock, she said she went strait to the counter 2 minutes ago asked for the box and it was presented to her no questions asked, she also said that’s why she brought her child with her and the box was for a friend who couldn’t get to store, I then returned to store to the same counter and asked a young girl with glasses and curly hair if this item was in stock , she replied no, I then told her how I’d observed two people coming out with the item I was after in hand, she said there out of stock , i returned to my vehicle , I then checked my phone and the smyths website and they were actually still showing in stock, I understand what smyths are trying to do with combating scalping and I stand by the 1 per person as scalping is ruining the hobby, sadly on this occasion smyths you could nt be more wrong, I ve collected for over 30 years and collected pokemon since it was pocket monsters in the late 90s and probably longer than the two members of staff I spoke to have even been on this planet , I mod for numerous you tubers , whatnot streamers and the like, i ve been apart of the Pokemon community for decades, I have two daughters , 11 and 6, both have there Xmas and birthday presents from smyths, both go to numerous parties throughout the year, again the presents come from smyths , i ve been a long term customer for over 10 years and feel well and truly let down, the service from your staff today in the Derby store has been absolutely diabolical, I will no longer be a customer of smyths and I will certainly be sharing my experience on other platforms, if your in your 40s and collect pokemon do not go to smyths, you are victimised for your age and left feeling absolutely humiliated, the crazy thing is im at Yorkshire card show at the weekend and will now probably pay double retail to acquire the eevee box, so infact you haven’t stopped the scalping you let them profit further, 👎🏻thumbs down today I’m affraid smyths , poor training, poor judgement and poor customer service
