Horrible administration

Absolutely horrible interactions with staff members.
Have had several issues in their pickup line, which is absolutely horrendous, for starters. On several different occasions, my child has not been outside, and they have had to walkie talkie or use a megaphone to find my kid. The last time I refused to move my car until they produced my child in my sight. I was threatened to be banned from the school before my child even made it outside. I've voiced these concerns to the principal, who told me she was never made aware of an issue in pickup line. I requested a sit down where her father and I could be present with the principal and was told that her staff painted me as a confrontational parent, for not understanding why, for the fifth or sixth time, no one knows where my kid is.And they are trying to walkie, talkie and find her. The solution was doing office pickup. Yesterday, my child needed to use the bathroom before we left. She is five years old in a huge school. She was not comfortable going alone I asked a staff member to walk her there and back. Ten minutes later, my kid is crying in the other room.Telling someone she doesn't know where her mom is. I'm not sure where the disconnect is, or if it is just bias against me. But this is absolutely the worst feeling i've ever had sending my child somewhere. And having this many negative interactions with the adults in charge of these children.

Great alternative to some public districts.

I appreciate the emphasis on morals as well as academics. The school also does a decent job of focusing each students abilities and challenging those who are ahead. The dress code is great, but needs to be more strictly enforced. In the higher grades, pants although technically "dress code" are worn inappropriately tight and the interpretation of a collared white shirt is broad. Problem students are not controlled enough and interfere with the learning process for other students.
Overall, they do a much better job than public schools, but could use a bit more tightening up.

Great school.

My only concern is the pick up and drop off. Some parents drive through the lanes like its a Nascar race, if you cannot stay between the lines your either driving to fast or should not be driving at all, others are to involved with their telephones and dont pay attention. There is NOT any type of patience or common courtesy practiced during these times either. The sad part is we have been doing this same routine for months and still there are people who want to do their own thing and make their own rules.

Glad we switched from traditional public school to South Canton Scholars!!

When you are told at a parent teacher conference at a Plymouth traditional public school that your child is "too smart" and they don't know what to do with him, you are happy to hear they are smart...but wait, "don't know what to do with him?" We got NO support from the teacher to challenge my child, and a principal that informed us he does not micromanage his teachers. When we left, we were puzzled that they proposed to "dumb down" our child to fit into the rest of the kid in the grade. Since we could not afford Private School, a friend told us about public Charter Schools. It is the BEST thing we have done for our child, and now the rest of his siblings!!

The teachers and administrators at South Canton Scholars are ready to challenge the smart kids, jump to help and quickly get additional resources for struggling kids, and also be there for the parents. South Canton Scholars knows that "Time" is the enemy. We can't wait months for funding for additional resources (like in the traditional public schools), we can't wait until the end of the school year for the results of State tests, so teachers can adjust their lessons. Test scores are individualized at South Canton Scholars, they catch what's happening to EACH child though out the whole school year, to where State scores fall inline to what the school already knew about each child and their progress.

This worked for US and our unique situation. Figure out your goals for your child and choose the school that fulfills them. Public Charter Schools allowed us to have a choice where to put our kids when the school assigned to us was not a fit.

This is our second year at South Canton Scholars and we have loved it. My son is thriving academically and socially. The daily interactions between the principal, teachers, staff and myself have been great.

Great school!

This school has been wonderful in the development of my children. They are challenged appropriately and given an adequate amount of structure.

SCS Review

The teachers are hard-working and dedicated. I do not care for uniforms and so little recess for the children. Research shows that children who get vigorous movement or exercise throughout the day learn more in less time than children who move less and work bell to bell. Implement longer physical ed and/or recess.
