My husband phoned them and explained…

My husband phoned them and explained the car was in limp mode and was makeing a hiss sound with black smoke under the front of the car, the garage then had a look and phoned my husband to tell him it was exhaust pipe had burst and caused damage to the cat and he would need a new one, cost would be £584 with parts and labour so he said go ahead a fix as we need our car.
My husband then went to collect the car they then said to him we have put the new part on but the fuse wouldn't come out so we have changed that didn't ask them too no phone call given for extra cost, they then had the cheek to say the car is still in limp mode sorry but you may need a new turbo , not once did this garage say this on the initial call if we new it was going to cost more than the car to repair we wouldn't have had the new CAT put on it, so the car still has black smoke coming out, and is still in limp mode and we cannot use it. I phoned and kept repeating our issue over the cost and lack of communication as it cost £701 in all for our car still not to work, the man said the car is running ain't it I don't understand what your trying to say, which of course made me angry a few choice words where exchanged, don't trust this garage one bit. My car failed its MOT ?

My car failed its MOT on the basis of the front brake pads were worn and the rear disc apparently rusty. The staff at the garage informed me that as the disc needed replacement both the disc and the pads would need replacing even though the pads on the rear were replaced 13 month ago by the same garage. The average wear time for pads according to the RAC is between 50K and 100K miles where I only do between 5000 and 10000 miles per year normally. The estimate for doing the work was around £412. I lost confidence in the reasoning of the garage staff and took the car to another garage and asked them to check out the brakes and once mended complete an MOT on the vehicle. The 2nd garage replaced the front brake pads that were worn however found no problem with the rear brakes. They also found that the hand brake was not functioning at all which was a bit of a surprise as I had only driven about 4 miles between the garages. When I called into the Southwell Garage and talked to a young member of their staff about the issues arising he appeared to be off hand and dismissive of my dissatisfaction, with the only conclusion by me that he couldn't care a monkey's. One day I reckon he will be in a similar position and I would suggest should remember this incident. I intend to report this situation to the government body dealing with MOT's, the DVSA.
