Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 113 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently complain about massive, unexpected increases in their bills and direct debit payments without receiving clear explanations from the utility company. Consumers also find it extremely difficult to reach support, often spending hours on hold or dealing with unhelpful call agents. Though some customers experienced severe service failures, a few reviewers noted that local field engineers and visiting staff were exceptionally helpful, polite, and efficient when fixing urgent problems. Reviewers also mentioned that certain physical issues like water leaks were eventually resolved with minimal disruption once workers finally arrived on site.

Most corrupt in the UK SWW

My previous house was very old and beaten up by previous tenants.Sww wouldn't fix the leaks and neither would Sanctuary Torquay both very corrupt companies. A kind plumber fixed the leaks but they now want me to pay over 2 grand and I'm disabled plus who has that to hand...they are robbers and scammers. If you say your bill seems way too high they always say to people need a leak allowance? How about just fixing it well duh.
I moved to Exeter and I'm the first tenant. So now I'm paying off 2 houses but Sww had cheek to say today that my bill although I pay weekly, amounts on both properties, was
£931 and maybe there was a leak. ?Newbuild 1st tenant highly unlikely. What horrible corrupt people overcharging and lying shame on them,my mother just died too and I told them that. These people are unbelievable and need to be investigated for their devilish greed. What about the sewage as well.
The UK has a crisis right now and you want us to keep giving - it has to stop ....you're hurting people ....just stop stealing.!!

Accrued a debit despite paying direct debit. No-one thought that maybe it would be smart to review the payments. Also HIGHLY questionable huge usage spike for 4 months when I basically was barely home. Currently raising a complaint. And let's not even get started on the state of the local beaches after medium levels of rainfall. What an awful company.

A final opportunistic ambush

Left Devon to move to Midlands. Final bill was nearly 10 times my monthly bill. Lots of data presented but no explanation of how it relates to previous billing or why the massive jump.
Then had 4 conservations on WhatsApp on 4 occasions - at my inconvenience. They said an advisor would call me. It never happened.
Now the threatening reminders have started.

BEWARE THE FINAL BILLING! BEWARE THE AMBUSH!

I feel compiled to write this Review

I feel compiled to write this Review. An elderly friend of mine, in her 90’s with a Polperro address, had Simon come to read her Meter this morning. My friend had concerns over her last Bill and asked Simon to come in and speak with her about. Simon was absolutely amazing with this lady. He spent time to answer her queries and reassure her over her worries and was very calm and patient. Simon is an exemplary member of your Team

Imagine telling your customer to get in…

Imagine telling your customer to get in contact with you and then when they do (Using the whatsapp function that is convenient for them as they work all effing day) you then choose to ignore them and then send them a threatening letter because you havent heard from them cause you're choosing to actively ignore them on the chat function you provide

I wonder why the eff not hmmm? Dog awful company that needs to be shut down. Cares more about its share holders than anything else and whose staff all need a morality check for working for such a company.

Almost instant service. Superb

We had a blocked toilet that our plumber couldn't fix. It was Friday. I called South West Water. Very helpful and a visit was arranged for Saturday (today). About 9.15 the engineer arrived. Very polite. Within 30 minutes he had unblocked the sewer and also a small fatball he found which came from the kitchen waste. Five stars for South West Water.

Daylight robbery

Daylight robbery. My rates increased about 30% in April, and I used about 10% water in the last 6 months, so that obviously means a 100% Direct debit increase!????

Diabolical company

Diabolical company! Where to start really?!... Not only do they hold the monopoly for water service here in Cornwall, they are robbing the regions households with unfair and extraodinarily high prices, especially the service and sewerage charge (rain water and roadside burst mains overflow, that goes down the outside drain in the gutteral road area) paying for literal rainwater to wash away 🤦‍♂️ On top of that they never send out the meter reader twice a year as we are told, mine was last read apparently 14 months ago and I've been hit with a disgustingly high bill since having to rummage around in the dirt and locate a reading on their behalf (yet again). They dump 💩 in the beaches constantly at an unrivaled recent rate and give obscene amounts of annual bonuses to top of the chain slackers, by overcharging and downright fabricating numbers out of thin air, they can ransom their customers with because they have no competitor! I am appaled by how fast this company have gone downhill in recent years. No humanitarian respect in that place at all anymore.

Increases to DD but no justification

As with a lot of people on here. I too have had direct debit increased by more than double. The payments will make me pay 3 times the amount the bill is. However they won't allow me to decrease their extortionate direct debit. Customer service is non-existent. Absolutely abysmal.

How did it come to this

How did it come to this? Blame the extractive venture capital system we live in for our daily essentials such as power and water. (oh and the Tories for political choices for the few, not the many.) The lot behind Southwest Water, aka Pennon, are a particularly rank version of this. Given the push to hold them to account for tidying up our waste going into our shared recreational waterways, their reptilian response is to weasel out and try and bully customers into being held responsible. I really do not know how theirleadership sleep at night. I suppose their fat cat pay takes the edge off their soul destroying guilt. Sorry for the rant. Beware the Pennon!

I have been waiting over an hour on the chatline to talk to an advisor reference my monthly payments having doubled from £78 to £122 and the usage figures being incorrect.
We are two pensioners and are unable to pay this amount, we have had water saving devices fitted and three water butts for the garden, we never use the hose, yet according to our latest bill we have used 70,000 litres of water which in no way matches our smart meter reading,
The waiting times to talk to an advisor is totally unacceptable , in the end I gave up.

Terrible customer service

I spent an hour on their website providing all information requested with regard to a house move and it still would not accept the info & provide me with a final bill. A total waste of time. The positive & efficient experience I had with Octopus for final bills for gas and electricity & setting the account up again at the new house proves that its totally possible to do it efficiently. I know I will have to sit on hold tomorrow for ages until I get to speak with someone who can hopefully sort this out. Moving house is not unusual, SW Water - up your game!

This company fails on so many fronts

This company fails on so many fronts, they are now charging customers extra for their failures.
My bill from1st November even though we are careful with our water uses.
From £32 to £60 a month is disgusting. Why should we pay for their failures.
I will not be paying

What a joke and con this company is!!!

What a joke and con this company is!!!! High rates , zero customer care, nothing but problems, asbestos in old pipe work in cornwall so southwest water cant or wont dig up to replace , yet they attempt to hide this fact from its customers , health and safty of customers and the environment is out
the window and constant leeks not fixed or huge disturbances during preplanned works carried out yet not priorly informing residents which is a basic duty of care in law. Hours waiting to try to speak to SSW helpline and advisors seem un trained to handle calls if you manage to get any answer atall! Complaints in writting ignored, think Cornwall should be outraged and refuse to be forced to pay high rates for such poor services .

Put my bill up by a huge amount of money for this year and for no apparent reason. The water quality is very poor and I have to filter it a lot to make it drinkable. I wrote a letter of complaint which eventually got answered by a phone call which was a complete waste of time as they simply don’t care about customers in my opinion. If their pointless phone calls to upset customers are what we’re all spending our extra money on then it simply adds insult to injury. If there was an alternative to south west water then I would take it in a heartbeat…. And if there was a chance to leave a zero star review that would work too
