Elite pain and suffering

I want to share my experience with Sparx Maths, as it's been quite a rollercoaster for me. At first, I thought it would be a great tool to help me improve my maths skills. The platform is interactive and seemed promising, but as I dug deeper, it started to take a toll on my mental health.

The endless practice questions were overwhelming. I found myself spending hours trying to get everything right, and when I didn’t, it left me feeling frustrated and anxious. I started to feel like my worth was tied to these scores, which wasn’t healthy at all. Eventually, it impacted my mood and led me to some pretty dark thoughts. I didn’t think a learning tool could have such a profound effect on my mental state.

I really wish there were more support or resources to help students cope with the pressure it brings. It’s such a shame because I can see the potential it has. But for me, it ended up being more harmful than helpful. If anyone else feels like this, I encourage you to take breaks and reach out for support. Your mental health is way more important than any math score!

this is the worst not just maths website but possibly the single worst website iv'e used more then once do i even have to say anything there is no reward for sparx other then "thank goddness is over" before you have to do it again another day how does it reward you for doing well by making its questions worse my teachers litrally say don't look up the answers not becasue its cheating but because if i go to quickly it sees it as good work and gives me harder questions what a crappy website i miss when i was given sheets on maths at least then if you did not get all questions right it was ok and seen as growth but to sparx noo do not be stupid if you do not get 100% every single time its seen as incompltete and you have achiced nothing

This is app is disgusting

This is disgusting. As an app that you want to use as a challenge, sure whatever it's fine but this app is made to make kids learn and ENJOY maths, or any other core subjects. Homework should take sub 1 hour but this app will make you work for 3x longer depending on the amount you are given. It is exhausting because of the 100% requirement and completely identical questions that make it seem so repetitive to the point of torture.

Now my school introduced this in y9

Now my school introduced this in y9, now I'm in y11 and honestly never liked sparx. You only get 2-3 tries before it forces you to follow a 6-step answer thingy, even if the question was 2 part and you only got 1 tiny thing wrong. My school days became worse since sparx was introduced. My maths teacher forces everyone to do 100% every week and it's hell.

Not recommended for students.

A short conclusion will be made at the end.

This wesbite is, yes, a maths learning website. However the way they attempt to teach children is very concerning. A 100 percent no exceptions completion boundary. It teaches children to not make mistakes which is detrimental to growth.

Furthermore, the addition of not only a maths platform but science and reading make students dread their homework. The videos, from my knowledge, do not appear to help in most questions which does not help students that can not understand a question.

Additionally, the reader website requires not only 100 percent completion but for that target to be aquired first time. This creates a situation where students are not allowed to even learn from mistakes as a single one would take ruin all the progress they have made. In the actual GCSE test, a couple mistakes would not forsake students to a low grade but Sparkx treats it as a complete failure. It is this way of thinking that the students hate.

As for the science site, the only complain students have are the flashcards which I have seen and in short, I believe they would be fine however only one single set per topic.

The maths site has multiple complaints from students and, in my opinion, I sympathise with them. In addition to 100 percent completion, there is also the need for "bookmark checks" which is a shorter way of saying "write down your questions". An online homework requiring a book?

In conclusion, Sparkx learning appears to be helping and teaching but in reality it ruins confidence and forbids mistakes. This may even turn a child into an overconfident person who ultimately has a higher chance of failing their GCSE.

The most important point, multiple websites and techniques have been made to cheat. So if the situation is so dire whole AI bots and websites have been made does that not show how incompetent the creators of sparkx seem?

I’m extremely disappointed with Sparx…

I’m extremely disappointed with Sparx Maths. As a teacher, I expected a platform that would genuinely support learning, but instead I’ve found it rigid, time-consuming, and frustrating for both staff and students. It feels more like a box-ticking exercise than a meaningful educational tool.
