Although this site and company is subject to privacy laws such as the GDPR, they completely violate the privacy of their users. Shame for a Belgian-based company.
Update 09/04/2026:
Dear Speaky management, thank you for your answer of today. However, your answer makes no sense at all: my customer has exercised her privacy rights in line with Art. 15 and Art. 20 of the GDPR, but you never replied. This is a clear violation of the GDPR. After reminding you of this, it appeared you also violated Art. 12 of the GDPR.

Speaky – Great Idea, Terrible Execution
The concept behind Speaky is actually promising: a platform to connect with native speakers and learn languages through real conversations. Unfortunately, the reality is quite different.
Instead of genuine language partners, you mostly receive spammy or inappropriate requests—often from people who don’t even speak the language you want to learn. The matching system seems broken, as you can wait for hours without anyone willing to talk. And if you take the first step, you risk being labeled a scammer.
Conclusion: Great idea, but terrible execution. Without better moderation and protection against spam, Speaky remains practically useless. A wasted opportunity!

This website is very poorly monitored. Many users use inappropriate language, and from the reviews I've read, it seems like it is being used for inappropriate things, rather than for language exchange. DO NOT USE SPEAKY. In my opinion, this website should no longer be continued.

Hi,
anyone here know how to delete your Speaky account? I tried to delete my account without any success. The support teams no one replied to my messages I sent to them. It’s been one week without any answer.
Any helps would be very appreciated!
It's a shame as this site could be so great. Because of a lack of checks on this site, I was subject to constant scammers, nasty pictures, propositions. In the end I did not feel safe. It's a shame as it would have been great to connect and learn with people from all over the world. I haven't got this level of sexual abuse from other sites so why is this being allowed? There are many other good free sites you can use so I would avoid this one. Update April 26: thank you for response. I will try again!

There's so many scammers on this site and the people who run it do nothing about it so I'm starting to think it's actually the scammers that run the site.
I've been on Speaky for 2 days and have gotten the impression that many of the men see it as a hook-up site. I am female and I made it plain in my intro that I want to practice a specific language. I have gotten at least a dozen messages from men, none of whom speak that language. Most of the messages were greetings, but a few were flirtatious. Speaky does allow the user to block and/or report inappropriate messages. On the positive side, I messaged a woman and I think we'll be able to help one another with our language learning.
I have never used the app
But got contacted by foreign scammers and referred me to Speaky.. I ended up wasting the scammers time, because they are easy to spot.
Poorly executed, so virtually no info or content you could rely on. Minimalist by design, but as a result of poor execution it takes enormous amount of time to just find someone useful (I think they hide the info on all languages that a person wants to learn to maximize the number of clicks... sad). No bio/resume, no language credentials are verified and there is no peer rating system (this is so much inferior to paid language tutoring sites, like e.g. Preply), so it is a random choice website. And they fight you when you try to fix the anonymity problem, by imposing a 300-character limit in profile descriptions is just like on Twitter, so even if you wan to give more info on yourself, you can't, forcing your conversation partners to operate on zero data i.e. blind (I appreciate it doesn't take long to start - but please don't force that very opinionated limit on people who can/like to write). Judging from the female descriptions, many male users seem to use it for other purposes, such as "6ting", dating or scams. Females otoh promote their Instagram, or are to test the waters, since they are too young to register on proper (sugar) dating sites. Yes, you guessed it, better sites are available ( see some reviews online ).
The platform is plagued by scammers and fake profiles. I almost fell for some "crypto-romance". Other than that, normal people are not trying hard to communicate, especially women who always expect others to take initiative.
Also, you cannot contact the company behind this website. There is only an email address and they are not willing to respond.
Avoid it and don't waste your time if you are really looking for a language exchange or some new friends.
I have to say, your webpage for users is rather beyond useful. (Did you pay someone for this poor design?) The area for communicating is at way at the bottom of the page and seems limited to 2 lines. I never know whether I have a new message or not. And half of the few responses I got were sexy come-on notes from women>
Speaky is supposed to be a language learning platform, but there are too many people who are using it for dating and scamming. Few people you meet there have a genuine desire or goal of learning a language. Therefore, Speaky should allow its users to upvote or recommend people who are genuine language learners and to report scammers.
