SpecifiedBy - a great new specification platform
A great platform for listing products to viewed by Architects, specifiers and other trade professionals. The "back end" of the system is intuitive and easily edited. Leads and analytics are readily available, making measuring engagement simple and straightforward. When required, technical support for the site is first class.

Jack has been very proactive recently at trying to get better results from our SpecifiedBy page. We are looking to find more productive leads, Whilst we have had many visitors to the page the type of leads received have not been contactable, also too many non UK based enquiries. Lets see if the recent changes makes any difference

We've been using Specified By for a few…
We've been using Specified By for a few months now and - particularly in the last month or so - have been really seeing some productive leads come out of it. We're also in the process of launching a new product and Specified By gives us another platform to reach out to specifiers on.

A waste of time and money.
I signed up for an initial 6 month period (in the form of a 12 month agreement with a 6 month cancellation option) on the basis that if 60 leads were generated then we would then continue for another 6 months. After agreeing on the contract I was advised that counting leads would include anyone who had merely seen our advert listing (and not made any expression of interest). For leads of this type, their system correctly sets them as ‘uncontactable’ as they are not actually leads. Actual leads that did express interest were only 7, and they led to zero revenue. Despite me expressing how unhappy I was with this they insist on their definition of leads, and that the contract is the contract and we must pay the 2nd 6 months.
Few actual leads, zero revenue, and no ongoing prospects. Very disappointing.

Whilst we take the success of our customers very seriously, it is important that we correct false statements made in a public forum such as this.
Contrary to the reviewers claims:
- There was no initial 6 month period. The customer signed up to an annual subscription
- There was an agreement, at the customers insistence, that if there was not 60 leads generated after 6 months, the customer would have the opportunity to 'break' the subscription at this point.
- We generated almost 300 leads for the customer in that period. As far as we know, the customer never made any efforts to engage with or use these leads in any way.
- The customer was shown the leads system and precisely how it works in a recorded, online demonstration BEFORE agreeing to the subscription.
- 'Uncontactable' is simply a term related to being able to follow up with a lead directly via SpecifiedBy's built-in messaging system. All leads provided are contactable. Regardless, this term has no bearing what is or is not a lead. The definition of a lead was clearly demonstrated as being directly linked to the leads provided through SpecifiedBy.
- The customers defintion of which leads 'did express interest' is their own interpretation and from experience and the data on hundreds of thousands of leads generated, one we would not agree with.
- SpecifiedBy has no control over how quickly, consistently or adequately the customer follows up with and responds to the leads generated
- SpecifiedBy provides specification leads which can be a long sales cycle, requiring some nurturing of those leads. Not having generated any direct revenue in the first 6 months is not a good measure of the platform - hence why the measure was leads generated rather than revenue generated
- The customers version of 'expressing how unhappy I was' was to send an email at the 6 month point of the subscription (having never expressed any concerns previously despite several checkins from our team), saying "I don’t intend to pay the invoice and will argue it in small claims court if necessary."
- At this point, we explained the leads situation and how the account did not meet the criteria, as set by the customer, to cancel the subscription. We also put in place a plan to help the customer to better use the platform over the next 6 months, the response to which was to post this "review".
Since this all took place, we have attempted on several occasions to re-engage the customer and offered to support their ongoing use of the platform (which they do continue to use, despite this review), but this has been rejected so far.
Unfortunately, as with any sales or marketing channel, it is not possible to guarantee results, and sometimes our approach doesn't get the results desired for a particular customer.
On this occasion, we have obviously come up short against the customers expectations, but feel the review and the contents within it as it stands, are mainly false and unjustified.
Innovating for both the specifier and the manufacturer.
We have worked with SpecifiedBy from the beginning and have recommended the platform to many other building product manufacturers.
Of all the options manufacturers have to showcase and house product information online, SpecifiedBy is by far the most innovative - working for both the specifier and the manufacturer.
