From AIR Studios, to the edge of the world. We’ve collaborated with Hans Zimmer’s prestigious scoring collective Bleeding Fingers Music ( Frozen Planet II, Planet Earth II, Blue Planet II) and London’s finest string players to create a new kind of small ensemble library — featured in BBC’s Frozen Planet II. Fractured Strings introduces an innovative approach to articulations that offers inspirational surprises through intervallic performances and new modal colours, delivering unparalleled depth and realism. With these emotive musical gestures and our new Scale Mode technology, this library lends itself perfectly to cellular, ambient, and neoclassical composing — reflecting the intricacies, patterns and contrasts found in natural phenomena. Featuring an eight-piece string ensemble and two soloists, these sounds have been brought to life in the unparalleled acoustics of AIR Lyndhurst Hall, complete with 15 signal paths. With infinite intervallic possibilities, you can take these strings anywhere — to places of warmth, grit, darkness or light.

Amazing sounds and textures, it really is fantastic for adding another layer of color. Such smooth playing is hard to find or create.

A very niche product. Bought this on the Black Friday deal. With the freebie product that came with it and the discount, I'm satisfied.

One of my favorite libraries. The idea is perfect. The sound is just absolutely gorgeous and versatile. You can get a very Air Studios hall kind of sound but you can also get a very intimate and close mix. The simple reason I don't give it 5 stars is because I think it could have a bit more patches and articulations. Specially with the solo violin and cello. If we could have all the patches from the full sections in the solo violin and cello that would be the cherry on top of the cake. And also, although no one cares, I miss the Violas 🫢 But overall it's a beautiful and inspiring library that can be used to give life to almost every composition.

So far, I'm not sure how useful this one will be, but I do really like how it sounds.

Intimate and detailed string elements beautifully recorded and captured by Spitfire! It is a toolkit that supplements other string libraries and will add an extra touch of realism. I find that the addition of the scale mode and velocity- triggered intervals set this library apart from others. I get inspired immediately when working with these samples and find that it pairs perfectly with Spitfire's Ólafur Arnalds Chamber Evolutions and Orchestral Swarm.

bog standard, feels like SpitfireLABS library with a pricetag

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

This library could have been so good. It sounds spectacular, but seems to be quite useless. Instead of giving inspiration I feel it stifles any creativity by being extremely limited in its use. The timed element does not work for me at all - I really miss a setting that allows a more rigid or more free cadence (like on drummer patches, where you can select more or less swing). This should be something that could be programmed, as the samples are timed. I really miss having sustains in this library also - these should have been recorded alongside the different lines, as this would have given the library some actual usability. I do not thing I will ever use this library for any project. I own a lot of SA libraries and have way more use for others like Chamber strings, Symphonic, the Tundra strings (Albion V) or the free Aperture strings - these libraries allow me to be creative and I always return to them when writing music. A pity! Hopefully an update on this library will see some changes.

This library was not what I hoped it would be. I thought there would be more experimental articulations, when I downloaded the software I was disappointed. Spitfire does not have a return policy for the library if you have downloaded the software. I'm not sure how anyone would know how the instrument would be beneficial in their work without downloading. I wish Spitfire would change this policy.

I love this library for the many possibilities it offers when composing for strings, especially for a small group
