Poor untrustworthy experience

Having been told by an AA engineer that the alternator in my car was noisey suggesting the bearing was going and needing to be replaced, I arranged with Station Road Garage Histon to have the the alternator and auxillary belt replaced but kept changing my mind about when and what to do. Realising the MOT was due in a month caused me further conflict but when I talked to Bec, the principal contact at SRG. she agreed with me to have the MOT done first , then if any faults that were found could be fixed economically to do these first then replace the alternater and belt. As I have used SRG frquently and trust their opinions, I agreed with this course of action. The mot failures were resolved within reasonable cost, as were the replacemnt alternator and auxillary belt. And all within the same day that I took the car in. I was kept informed of each stage and delighted to be told the car was ready for collection in the afternoon. When i paid the reasonable bill, collected my keys and rove the car away, It was a quiet, smooth and comfortable journey home despite heavy rain and heavy traffic; A good test of the car's quality! The personal care I received, honest discussions, professional guidance and quality of work done made this a very welcome relief from what I had anticipated could have been a disaster!

Price kept changing: £300 quoted (including MOT), then £400 an hour later by phone, then the invoice ended up over £500 including VAT. I’m not happy with the lack of clear, upfront pricing and consent for additional costs. I won’t be using them again and I can't recommend you use them unless in a dire emergency.

To find a garage capable of servicing and testing a large motorhome in Cambridge is difficult to say the least but to find one that does such a fantastic job is a real bonus. From the booking to collection, the process is simple, the service excellent, the staff are delightful and the cost reasonable.

Interesting reading other reviews as I've always had great service here. I have been going to SRG since I got my first car in 2017, based on the recommendation of a number of people I know. More specifically, a number of women I know use this garage, as it's the first one I've ever been to that doesn't patronise me or make me feel like they are trying to fob me off. They never go ahead with work without calling first. You do need to request the courtesy car in advance, understandably! Just book it at the time you are booking the work in. I have never had an issue getting a courtesy car there. Yes the garage is a little tucked away, but I'd much rather use a garage that I trust 100%! They have never rushed me to make a decision, I feel comfortable to ask them to explain if/when specific work needs doing and they do this in a polite and informative way. Wouldn't go anywhere else :)

Sent our car to have an MOT here via Servicing Stop. The car was kept overnight without us being informed by either company. On return the air circulation settings had been tweaked, the reversing camera had been disconnected and the audio system no longer worked. Subsequently also found that items which should have been checked as part of the service appear not to have been. Car still shows an oil change is required, when it should have been done as part of the service. They charged us for an engine flush though. Extremely disappointed and very angry with this outfit.

Shocking Customer Service.

1) I had to confirm my MOT and booking, no call or email to confirm the date.

2) On the above, no information about a courtesy vehicle besides a snarky receptionist’s comment "that you must book weeks in advance". A call or email to let the customer know this is useful.

3) After a failed MOT report, a call was provided to let me know on just that, not what the issue was or how much extra this would cost.

4) Having to follow up AGAIN at 5:20pm that day!!!! I was told the vehicle had passed MOT and work to rectify this was done.

NO call to approve, NO call or email to let me know the amount. The customer must call them to find out what’s happening?

5) You guessed it! Zero call the following day to let you know it's ready. Just the receptionist’s lovely tone on arrival and shoving a card machine to you for payment!

Besides being in the middle of nowhere (if not for the signage nobody would ever go there), poor customer service, and hopefully my vehicle serviced right.

I would not suggest or recommend Station Road Garage and will be taking my patronage elsewhere - Possibly to a shop that has this modern day thing called "CUSTOMER SERVICE".

We've used Station Garage for repairing and servicing our cars for years. The new garage owners seem to be continuing to offer an excellent, trustworthy and punctual service.

used SRG for a few years now for all my repairs servicing and MOTs fantastic all round service would never go anywhere else keep up the good work

My car got a tyre puncture when I was in Histon visiting my dentist today. They were able to book me in under very short notice and fitted a tyre for my car. Fairly priced and great service. Definitely recommend.

Dropped in to get a bulb replaced. Done on the spot. That would be good enough but the charge was very, very reasonable and the people who dealt with me made the whole transaction a very pleasant experience

Honest and trustworthy and friendly bunch! As a female new driver I was very anxious when getting my MOT as I know very little about cars. The guys were honest and reassuring. Great service and worth every penny!

Very quick quotation for work, booked in and completed with a few days. Last minute request for replacement wipers not an issue, bought and fitted within a couple of hours. Super clean workshop, lots of space around the plot to park, secure but easy access. Excellent, friendly service - I’ll definitely be returning to this garage.

Repaired my van, gave me a courtesy car and all back and in time for lunch.... great team, great service.
