Avoid: Deposit Kept, Serious Safety Concern Dismissed, No Refund

This review concerns Star City Suites / Star City Management’s conduct during our one-night stay at Flat 7, 36 Clifton Road, Llandudno.

Before arrival, they demanded a £300 security deposit and financial details outside Booking.com. When we asked to pay through Booking.com, they threatened to mark us as a no-show and keep the £644 we had already paid.

On the first day, the boiling-water tap malfunctioned, violently releasing boiling water and steam beside electrical sockets. There was a strong electrical burning smell. The person sent out cleared water and dismissed the smell as coming from heaters, although they were off. No safety tests were carried out, yet management said the flat was safe. When we questioned the person’s qualifications, management replied, “What does it matter if they’re a plumber or electrician?” They also told us to “stop rambling.”

We did not feel safe staying. Management refused to arrange or pay for alternative accommodation, so we had to book two Travelodge rooms in the early hours. We stayed one night of six. They have refused to refund the £644 booking payment or our additional costs. They also kept the £300 deposit without explaining why, providing evidence of damage, or responding to us.

That is unacceptable management. I would not trust them with a booking, a safety concern or a deposit.
