Beach and bar

Our extended family have been gathering at St Audries for decades ever since my wife's parents went there first in 80's. Back then it was a thriving holiday camp with entertainment staff who organised for kids so it was massively attractive to young families. Now wind forward. Gone are those staff. Gone are the numbers of young families to be replaced by elderly home owners. A very different atmosphere now resides.
Of course there still are good things, the wonderful views across the bay for one. However we don't believe the place ever really recovered from the Covid lock down. While others were opening up it remained quiet, no bar, no food. Even now the bar operates on a restricted timetable and calendar. The menu is also fairly limited, chips chips chips
Then there is access to the beach. It no longer exists! The winter and spring rain storms have caused the path to heave and the final steps have been washed off the cliff. The shame of it is, no apparent effort has been made to repair this access. Seems the company find it easier to close it and padlock the gate. The real irony here is that years ago St Audries decided to close the footpath access to their neighbours, Home Farm, also a flourishing holiday site. They thought people from Home Farm were walking across and using St Audries swimming pool as Home Farm didn't have one. Now St Audries have no direct access to the beach they are advising people to drive to home farm to use their access to the sands. Ha. I wonder what Home Farm management would make of that. So yes, St Audries is right by the beach but to get to it currently you have to get in your car and drive.
The access cliff path could be repaired. The bar could be opened more frequently. The menu could be extended to more than deep fry food. I wonder if any of those issues are in the new owners plans? Means spending money though so I'm not holding my breath.

Booked our family holiday to st audries…

Booked our family holiday to st audries bay holiday park with 2 kids and a dog,the pics on the site showed views of the beach and the waterfall with onside bar and entertainment...when we arrived there was a sign on the gate which gives you access to the beach, saying "closed to to storm damage" clearly been like that for ages,so the only way to get to the beach to walk my dog and for the kids to have fun on the beach and to see the waterfall, was to drive around to the next village,(every single timei wanted to go on the beach,I had to drive) and as for the bar and entertainment area, it was never open, they can't say it was seasonal I went the 1st week in July! So don't waste your money hear, plenty of other sites near by, I have sent st audries bay 3 emails, with no reply, great customer service.

Prefer to put profits before people

One of the most important things you can learn from a holiday company is how they react when things go wrong. Barkers leisure are responsible and have a duty of care to all of their customers when things go wrong at their St Audries Bay Holiday Club. This was not the case in my experience. My husband and I arrived on site and immediately I had a bad feeling that this wasn't really a tourer friendly site because it was difficult to find our motorhome friendly pitch among the vast majority of static homes on the site. We had difficulty in finding a water filling point as well as our pitch which wasn't clearly sign posted. We eventually found what looked like a water filling point and so stopped to fill up after getting approval from someone who we believe worked on the site. Unfortunately in order to do so our van blocked the road. I sat in the passenger seat as my husband filled up the van with water outside. As I sat waiting a man in his car came along and obviously wanted to pass but was unable to do so as our van was blocking his path. I was the first point of contact for this man as my husband wasn't visible being around the other side of the van. I knew this man didn't have the patience to wait because he got out of his car and proceeded to walk towards me stating the obvious that we were blocking the road. I felt very intimidated by his unreasonable behaviour. Words were then exchanged between us which left me very upset to the point where I just wanted to leave. He could have gone the other way around to get out but chose to confront me instead. We moved the van to let him pass and proceeded to look for our pitch. I was very underwhelmed with it when we got there. It was small and at very close proximity to an old caravan already pitched there which felt imposing. To hold a normal conversation would be difficult without being overheard, I found myself having to whisper. It was a dark and depressing pitch which lacked the impressive views of the bay as illustrated. The grassed area lacked grass in places just mud. I decided it was all too much and left to make my way to reception to explain why I wanted to leave which was mainly due to my upset at the confrontation which had occurred earlier. We were told that we were able to get a refund if we wanted to leave due to the unfortunate circumstances and being how upset I was. We also didn't want to risk any further confrontation with the same man who was staying on site. We felt because of this it would be impossible to enjoy our stay there and therefore thought it best to leave. However, on returning home, we still hadn't received a refund days later so decided to phone to ask where our refund was. They had done a complete you turn and reneged their offer of a refund under their terms and conditions. Talk about adding insult to injury. We wouldn't have left if we were told beforehand at reception that we wasn't going to be refunded. We would have stayed and tried to have made the best out of a bad situation. I was told by the manager via telephone which I recorded that their receptionist had mis informed us and that they would make sure that in future their staff would be better informed going forward. As a company they were not responsible for the actions of their guests. This doesn't help us though and I am still challenging this out of principle. They prefer to put profits before their customers well being to the detriment of their company. I informed them I would be writing a negative review where possible to which they showed total disregard and lack of empathy. I am thinking of pursuing this through the small claims court out of principle on the basis of a recorded telephone conversation with the manager admitting that a refund was offered before we left. I will wait to hear if they would prefer to go the legal route. Disgusting money grabbing so and so's in my opinion.
