Had my garden landscaped plus large pergola was talked into having glass doors by Dan Eggleston what a nightmare he and his company are. Terrible!! For a very large pergola there was only ONE bolt in each leg instead of four we discovered this after windy conditions, thinking it was going to collapse!! We had to have the company back to rectify several things including the pergola and rill. The garden is still not complete and we have been ghosted by Dan Eggleston after spending £50,000!!! To still have an unfinished garden!! Completely disgusting company!
My mother in law paid a substantial amount to have her new garden landscaped with this tin pot company, photos of initial installation are being used on his socials however the rill/water features leaks/wont hold water and now there are no stepping stones in the water feature they are lent up against the wall. The garden is still not complete after being started in JULY 2024. No communication, ignores calls, texts and emails. Dan Eggleston is a cowboy!!! Avoid at all costs
I was dealing with Dan at Stone Mitchell, initially all good getting a garden design from him. Paid upfront partly, sent through our preliminary design, which was fine. Then paid further money for the completed design and plans so our landscaper had the details required to do the work.
No sign of life, tried to call him umpteen times, with no joy, please do not waste your money with this very amateurish set up.
Avoid like the plague.... Pissed off from Preston.
I spent £17,000 with Dan at Stone Mitchell having a Deponti electric louvered roof supplied and installed at my home.
I paid a deposit of over £4000 and the day the work was finished I paid the balance in good faith although there was a programming issue. This was finally resolved by the Deponti engineer in 10 minutes and should have been a simple thing for Dan to resolve on the day.
The roof was noise than expected in operation but worked and I was told this is normal
Fast forward 12 moths later and the roof made a loud bang and would not open leaving the back of the house in darkness.
I tried to contact Dan and after several attempts he finally took my call and reassured me he would look into it and come back to me but would resolve the issue.
Over the next few months as I was not hearing from him I sent multiple WhatsApp messaged, e mailed and called and he would not return my calls.
I spoke to the manufacturer who said they would contact him as it was his responsibility to visit site and repair the problem but they too came up against the same 'ghosting' from Dan
Finally in late August Dan answered my call and reassured me he would be in touch the following week to set a date to visit in the second week of September. I thanked him and said please don't ignore my calls as you have been doing.
He did not call as promised and since that date he has not responded
I would avoid this company at all costs. There is no after sales service what so ever.
I have the manufacturer themselves who has had to step in and repair their shoddy work at my cost.
They responded quickly to my request for help in making a bird and wildlife friendly garden. Although I live a long way from their northern base the distance wasn't an issue. I sent photos and a draft design with measurements and a planting plan came back after consultation with their expert. He then came and installed the garden. The whole process was easy and Arbour were a great team to deal with. They also want to keep an eye on progress as the seasons change. Top marks.
We bought the Kandla grey tiles from Stone Mitchell for our new patio, they delivered quickly and they look amazing. My husband didn't order enough, Ben was great and arranged for more to be sent out to us next day. Patio is finished and looks so much better. I'd order again for sure. Thanks again to Ben for all of his help :)
Just wanted to thank Dan, Leo Ben and Neil.
We have just had our pigato constructed by them and could not be happier.
They were all very professional, polite, friendly and turned up on time.
The job they have done is outstanding, I couldn’t recommend them highly enough.
Neil’s communication from order to completion was excellent. Even visited today to make sure we were happy.
Thanks guys
Friendly and helpful, we weren’t sure exactly what we wanted for our garden room, we just knew we wanted a more useable space in our garden and we didn’t have a massive budget.. Dan came to see us and explained what our options were. Would recommend to anyone.
Contacted Stone Mitchell for a price which they sent through in good time but then I asked for deposit info. They said 25% deposit followed by 50% on delivery. Meaning 75% paid before anyone actually turns up. I queried this as my quote was £12,299 so paying 75% with no guarantee of what was actually going to turn up and with no guarantee the product is not damaged etc is a huge ask especially given some horror stories you hear.
I drew comparison to builders who would not ask a penny up front turn up dig and build foundations then ask for a payment, which is repeated at key stages throughout the process. Now I don't mind paying a deposit in fact I get it as the companies want to protect the investment but 75% to me is to much. Stone Mitchell got very defensive saying about having to cut glass and customers not paying and said if I pay on credit card I have protection but then stated "Customers like me are best avoided" before terminating the chat. If they are like this at this stage then think of what they would be like if there was a problem or issues with the build.
UPDATE
I was contacted by StoneMitchell.co.uk sister company Arbour living on the 5th January, who apologised for my negative experience. It was nice to receive an apology but then they offered a slight discount or a free heater of I went ahead with the purchase. Based on the treatment prior to purchase I did not place an order.
Trust pilot then contacted me to verify the review as Stone Mitchell flagged my experience as not being genuine. I sent in copies of messages from Arbour living and Stone Mitchell and the review has now been verified as a genuine experience with these companies.
