eBay sellers sell defective and rubbish stuff

Most of the people on eBay sells defective and non genuine stuff and eBay really support them cause of their percentage. Whenever I order I received cheap quality and defective stuff. I stop buying from eBay and strongly encourage people don’t buy from eBay. It’s just wastage of time and money.

Just be prepared to be scammed by buyers, and have eBay laugh at you

I’ve had written confirmation from ebay - a buyer can purchase an item, damage it and return it for a full refund.

The lack of replies on this site show how much they care.

The ebay support forums are full recently if these issues.

I won’t bother anymore.

Might as well take a risk with Facebook - what are we paying ebay as private sellers for? No protection, no customer service and funds held in limbo.

Don't use eBay as a seller

Don't use eBay as a seller. I was a private seller only listing items that were second hand and they have suddenly closed my account and taken my money and refuse to tell me why stating I went against their policies which I absolutely haven't. Completely shocked, would never use again

Got ripped off - Buyer Beware

Got ripped of by a company called Occassionally95. Bought a bra which was wrongly sized. When I tried to return for a refund they said I would have to do it at my own expense, then gave me an address for China, written in Chinese. The bra was posted from Birmingham uk. When I asked why can't it be returned to Birmingham, thy replied that it was my fault the bra was too small although I ordered my size. They offered me a 20% refund and keep the bra. Anyone want a bra of indeterminate size?

Everyone here seemed to have had awful…

Everyone here seemed to have had awful experiences, but in my case it was great. I sold and bought countless items on EBAY and had no issues, even with expensive items. And the fact you can click a button and speak with a human being straight away is a perk (no need to spend hours trying to get though a person).

No seller protection

No seller protection, if the buyer want your item for free eBay just lets them have it. Doesn’t matter what your write in the description, what category it’s in. What parts they steal before sending it back, your out the money and they have a new item.

Used to be good - getting worse.

Used to be good.
Going downhill. Usually good for buying though they’ve made it harder to leave anything but good feedback and not honest feedback when sellers take ages sending items. As others have said - an increasing number of sellers pretending to be U.K. based when in reality goods are in China.
For sellers it’s got much worse recently. Final value fees are extortionate. The new payment system is geared up for them and not the seller. It’s a downgrade and eBay will try and hang onto your money for as long as they can.
3 stars is probably generous.

eBay charged me 104 pound for listing fees!
Didn’t even know there could be charges of you didn’t sell and item. Very rude customer services, American guy, he didn’t listen to me and put the phone down before I’d finished!
After this I spoke to a lovely Irish lady who
1: Listened to me and 2: got the charge revoked, cannot thank Gail enough

Chinese sellers masquerade as UK sellers!

Some have been mentioning Chinese sellers. Since I no longer trust a Chinese seller (unless they have verifiable independent positive reviews), I have clicked on the option of 'UK sellers only' to then find goods with a 3-4 week delivery time. I then click on the details of the seller to see, quite clearly, that they are IN CHINA!

It appears that they only have to register a single address in an office unit in the UK to qualify as 'UK', and I'm pretty sure that some office owner will be allowing companies to do this for a tiny fee (add them all up and ka-ching). Since it's possible for ME to check the seller's origin, ON the eBay details, I see no reason why eBay cannot do the same, and exclude foreign sellers from the 'UK sellers only' option.

If a buyer is adamant over that option, they're still as likely to buy, aren't they? It might even increase sales if you know that the option works! Id**ts (that full word is inappropriate, apparently) who can't see beyond their own greed!

DREADFUL SHOULD BE CLOSED DOWN

I have been a seller on ebay for 15 years and have now reached a point where it's time to QUIT. I have never dealt with such a useless company before when sorting out issues. You can't even get hold of anyone to talk to. If you're a seller then they shaft you at every corner. I look forward to selling on another platform. I hope ebay dies a death.

Awful policy and customer service

Awful policy and customer service. They are always in the favour of the buyer even when the buyer is obviously scamming. I sold brand new Nike shoes to someone who asked me 3 times before ordering if they are new and unworn. At the time I didn't think anything about it untill after receiving them he said they are worn and put photos of some worn shoes. I gave this as proof and also my photos of the shoes I actually sent but they can't do anything the buyer wants to return and choose not as described... Also the buyer has negative reviews from other sellers saying he is a lier. Then they were explaining I better make agreement with the buyer so he can leave positive review pay for return label and resell them. Resell what some dirty worn shoes which I didn't send? The buyer sent abusive messages swearing it doesn't matter he is right. They decide in his favour, they put a fee to me for a label and guess what sent shoes to old address. On my account I have my address but apparently there is a return address I'm supposed to know about and update which guess what doesn't exist in their app. However if you ever try to open their website in the browser it sends you straight to the app. Noone asked me to confirm address or anything. It's the worst company ever. Would not use them ever again. I sold so much stuff there all new and never had a bad review. 100% positive until a scammer and they take his side. I asked them for half refund as it is their mistake I won't even receive the shoes but of course no answer. So much money I paid to this ridiculous company but I would never use them again. Such ashame I can't close my account because apparently I have to pay my final fees first. Well guess what eBay I am not paying it and all payments to you are blocked in PayPal and from my bank account. This is to cover half of the money I lost on this case .. Amazon is definitely years above you and will take over!

What a heap of poo

What a heap of poo. Someone made a false claim against me, so I contacted ebay who said I had to either take the item back and refund or just refund them. I took the item back and issued the refund as instructed. Then released the buyer had stolen some parts. I complained to eBay who said too late you issued the refund, even though they had withheld the funds from me anyway. When I complained again they told me ebay had no way of knowing who's telling the truth so they side with the buyer.

Good and Bad for both Sellers & Buyers

This is for those who only sell a few things on eBay the Business users are fully aware of the pitfalls.

What is eBay, well originally it was a place for people to sell their odd items, which is still true today, but now with people who use eBay as a business.

So eBay is more setup for Business users who would have to work like a shop and understand the then Where now you should be expected as a business to include in your sales, loss of parcels, returns, scammers etc etc and note a percentage loss overall, but this includes those that are not a business and only selling a few things. There is a difference here.

Where to start. eBay is a good place to sell or buy items.

BUT if something goes wrong, then it can be a total nightmare to sort it out.

That's the issue, the majority of the time, you are lucky and everything goes to plan.

But what happens when it does not and that is the most important thing to a buyer or seller.

How does eBay perform and the answer is not very well.
Overall buyers are protected more then sellers, included the con artists and scammers.

Good point: eBay does have a call back service, and a human will call you. Once you work out where that is. But does not mean they can help you.

I would class them as intermediates who's job it is to make everyone happy, which normally means the buyer and not the seller. Even if the buyer has lied they will still take the buyers side and try and get the seller to accommodate the buyer, refunds, discounts etc.

Bad points, eBay's automated systems, Non-Human interactions - these seem to be the first point when dealing with an issue and are set to be in the buyers favour and operate with no human interaction, so fraud is easily achieved.

e.g. Open return - this gives the buyer the right to return a item under certain circumstance e.g. Item not as described. Its an automated system, where it generates a return postage label (Up to 2kg).

So in this case you will get your item back and if lucky in the same condition as it was sent. So you would have lost only your original postage payment and your time.

If the item is heavier then 2kg you will be given a few days to arrange for the item to be sent back to you, after that the buyer will be allowed to keep the item and will also get a full refund. This is all done automatically no human involvement.

Note: The seller would not even know it was taking place unless they regularly check their orders. Which those who sell only a few items may not do.

Only thing a seller can do is to report the buyer under Abusive Buyer Policy
using in this example Falsely claiming an item was not as described.

But even using that eBay will still fully refund the buyer and tell them to keep the item even when you prove the buyer to be wrong.

Please avoid

Please avoid, they will cost you money as a seller, there is no protection, they automatically side with the buyer. Then there is the scams. Just avoid, plenty of new platform's gaining ground on ebay for a very good reason.

Oh then lets no mention the customer service....or lack of.

Wanna make a complaint? Send it via snail mail and we wont even acknowledge its been recieved. Personally i reckon its a shredder.
