Broad on paper, brittle in practice. Fine for a short; it broke down on a feature.

I used Studiovity to take a 260-page, 100-scene hard-SF movie through breakdown → shot list → storyboard. I got there, but only by working around the tool rather than with it.

What works. The module coverage is genuinely wide for the price — screenplay editor, breakdowns, storyboards, schedules, call sheets, budget, task manager, plus department views. The Beat Board ships 3-Act, 5-Act, Save the Cat and Hero's Journey templates. The shot record is properly detailed (size, type, movement, lens, camera, equipment, VFX, duration). Best of all is the storyboard export: shots per row, page size, template, orientation, per-field and per-scene selection. That part is genuinely professional.

Where it fell over.

The AI breakdown over-tags to the point of being a net loss. One scene came back with 51 elements. It tagged "teeth" as Makeup and "curve" as Set Dressing, and kept "boot" and "boots" as two separate Costumes. A first AD would tag twelve. You spend the saved time pruning. The element total even disagrees with itself between the report header and the underlying data.

The scene parser read ten all-caps action lines as scene headings, inflating 100 scenes to 110, and there's no way to merge or fix them from the interface. In the editor itself, action paragraphs render indented in the dialogue column while dialogue sits full-width at the margin — the element assignment looks inverted. Across 260 pages that's not cosmetic. The "Index card" view isn't index cards either; it just re-renders the script.

Deep links don't work. Navigating straight to a project URL kept rendering whichever view I'd last opened, and it survived a hard reload. I also got "unsaved changes" warnings after merely clicking between tabs.

The worst problem is silent failure. Image generation has undocumented limits — a prompt length ceiling, a concurrency ceiling — that fail without any message. When my credits ran out, the Generate dialog simply closed and produced nothing. No error, no explanation, and no credit balance displayed anywhere in the app. I only learned the real reason by inspecting network traffic.

The style system is the dealbreaker if you have a house look. There are four presets: Cinematic, Sketch, Cartoon, Anime. None is a comic register, and the dropdown resets to Cinematic on every reload. Wardrobe presets are Dress, Saree, Business attire, Top & jeans, Kurti, Streetwear, Gown — no help if your characters are in industrial safety gear. Every art direction note has to be smuggled into prompt text, and consistency drifts panel to panel.

Bottom line. Credits ran out at 200 of 489 panels, well short of one book. Two stars: ambitious scope, a great export, and a solid data layer underneath — undercut by weak AI output, a broken router, formatting defects in the core editor, and failures that never tell you what went wrong. Try it on a short first.

I signed up for the 7-day trial…

I signed up for the 7-day trial thinking this program would be a great tool for pre-production. On the first day, I imported my Final Draft script and had to reformat it in Studiovity. That was fine—I know that’s common. I spent about 2 hours reformatting, saving after every page. Later that day, I logged back in only to find all of my work completely gone.

I assumed it was a fluke and spent another 2–3 hours reformatting everything again. This time I made sure to log out and back in to confirm the changes had saved. They did. Then I moved on to the script breakdown feature. After uploading my script, only 27 out of 80 scenes loaded. When I checked the documents page, I discovered that, once again, all my changes had been deleted and half the script was missing.

I tried calling the number listed on the site, but it was an overseas number. The person who answered said he was “outside and couldn’t talk,” and asked me to just screenshot my issue. That told me everything I needed to know—this is not a professional company.

This tool is unreliable and unprofessional. If it deletes hours of your work, it’s worthless. I don’t have the time to spend 6–8 hours only for my work to disappear. Do not use this software. Save yourself the frustration and pay for StudioBinder or another reputable production tool.
