Auto renewing in a very underhand way

Auto renewing in a very underhand way. I have never received confirmation or any other message about the renewal and was unaware the person I had gifted it to was still recieving the magazine. I will never be using Hearst again.

Why make it so hard to cancel?

Like many others, I cancelled, then was sent an email to say 'do you really want to cancel?', then I said yes, then I see that I continue to have a membership and they continue to take cash. It is theft, and its out of order.

I cancelled on their website and followed their instructions. I emailed them to check they had cancelled. They did not reply and I have just seen that they have taken a payment. I am furious. It is stealing! I will never use them again.

Cancelled subscription 2 years ago, still getting charged

I cancelled my subscription 2 years ago and still keep on getting charged (not getting any magazines though!). I have been trying for 2 years to stop them taking money out of my account and it is not being handled. I don't know what to do at this point, I probably need to change bank accounts to make this work or get a lawyer involved. Ridiculous company!

I keep getting charged for magazines I didn’t order. They will send a free copy, then have an invoice in it. I don’t want ANY Hurst magazines, and I’m not paying for them! I received an email today, 9-24-22 saying I owe for Good Housekerping.

Shocking, shady company! Do not trust them with your bank details!!

Shocking company, watch them with your bank details!!
I have used them for years for my country living magazine, BUT, I bought one of the latest Country Living Vintage home books on 29th June. Two of these books turned up at a cost of £12.99 each. costing me £25.98. I did not order two!!
Then on my bank statement they had taken NINE lots of £12.99 from my bank account without my permission. That was a total of £116.91 !! This was robbery! Phoning them I found their accounts are in the Philippines. At first they denied the transactions, then they found it and said they would come back after 48 hours! I contacted my bank. and was told to get authorisation from Hearst for all nine separate withdrawals and a promise never to take any more money out of my account. I phoned them back in the Philippines who then denied that this had happened and I hadn't spoken to anyone in the morning. They said I had ordered two, wrong I ordered one book!! I had to send them a shot of my bank statement with all NINE transactions of £12.99 on. This morning it's now disappeared from my bank account and they have just charged me for two. I did not order two!! I've had no explanation, there is no sign that I have been refunded the £116.91. There is no apology, nothing!! I wasted half a day on this yesterday- nobody there cares. They're making out they're in the right, I'm in the wrong. Something funny is going on there at their accounts in the Philippines , I see on the reviews here, others have had the same problem. I have still paid for two when I only wanted one. Do not trust Hearst Magazines UK with your bank details, they will just help themselves to your money. I have another day to waste today getting on to my bank and Hearst Magazines to find out what's gone on. My Lloyds bank have been brilliant. To have this amount fraudulently taken out of my bank without my permission has been extremely stressful, especially for Hearst to tell me this did not happen, even though they found the withdrawal on my first phone call to them. Shady goings on!!! No explanation of what has happened to the £116.91 they stole from my bank account. I'm in agreeance to pay £12.99 for the one book I ordered, but not the cost of another eight books on top of this!! I pray another eight books do not turn up!! Get your house in order Hearst Magazines UK!!

Absolutely shocking customer service

Absolutely shocking customer service. Paid twice , no idea how must be there fault as I did everything I usually do. Wouldn’t refund so ended up with two copy’s of country living too my mums address for 6 months. Rang too cancel, they said they did then took more money. Every month for 3 months they’ve taken 22.50 out my bank then put it back in a few days later ? It’s very confusing and worrying everytime. Rang today too cancel AGAIN was told no we can only refund £18 as postage label has already been printed? It doesn’t cost that much for postage and that’s not my fault or mistake. NEVER ever will I use them again. Avoid like the plague have left me financially struggling and confused for 3 months.

Don't Subscribe for a Magazine

Hearst make it almost impossible to cancel your subscription, or those you send as a gift. So far, I've emailed them twice, telephoned them once and today thought I'd sorted it on line and the site closed down on me. They also reinstate your direct debit if you cancel it with the bank. Please don't take out a subscription with them.

I have never bought in a magazine…

I have never bought in a magazine online or in store.
I do not read magazines but for some reason the last couple months I have been getting charged for something that I have not used. When I call they say they're going to reimburse me $6... Yet they took more than that. This is also an American company and I'm in Canada... I don't get it but I'm pissed right off. Not one good review on this place I don't know how white people are still using it. BEWARE!!!!!!

DO NOT SUBSCRIBE - I bought as a gift for somebody was supposed to be a 1 off payment but it went to auto renew. They wouldn't give me my money back but now 6 months later they have taken money from me again!! despite me cancelling it. the cancel process is long winded and difficult - and apparently doesn't actually cancel it anyway - what a nightmare. Horrible company complete rip off don't get stuck into their cycle.

Poor Communication and Difficult to cancel

Subscription was bought as a birthday gift which ran smoothly until I realized it had auto renewed the following year. This was not made clear or anticipated as it was a birthday gift. I enquired and received an email saying ‘our records show you responded to the following payment offer’, then the direct debit information and ‘annual recurring payment’ listed. When I informed them that I had not received anything to respond to I received a generic response that didn’t answer my questions. I’m now trying to cancel next years renewal which is proving convoluted and has yet to work. Stay away unless you want the magazine for eternity....

BE WARE, stay away from them!!!

Worst company I have ever seen in the U.K.
I pre-ordered a ELLE advent calendar from this company. They said the Order will be dispatched from 2nd October; however, until 11th there is still no shipping information. So I contacted the customer service and ask for cancellation, they arranged the cancellation and said there will be no cost. But I already paid on 16th September, so I contacted them again, but they said they cannot find my payment details and they normally didn’t charge anything until the order dispatched, so the payment must not successful. But the money has been taken from my account a month ago, I send the payment proof to them no reply or update whatsoever.
I opened a case with PayPal now, hope PayPal can give my money back.

Near impossible to unsubscribe.

Under no circumstances take out a subscription. They make it near to impossible to unsubscribe. It actually gets quite comical as they email to ask which magazine you want to unsubscribe (I was only subscribed to one), and that you need to send them your address (doesn't stop them sending the magazine to my address every month). I am several emails in, and still not out the other side. The magazine by the way, Runners World, was actually pretty good.

Please listen to this and the many, many, other reviews saying exactly the same thing, once you are in you will never get out.

Diabolical

Diabolical! They get you to sign up for time limited packages - I took out a 6 month subscription to House Beautiful. They send an email to say my last issue will be May 2021. Then I’m just suddenly billed for £19.99 for a further 6 months subscription from June 2021! Disgraceful that they have no transparency here. In the email stating my last issue will be May 2021 they should state very clearly that they will continue to take money from me unless I take action to cancel before then. All attempts to rectify this are declined- they only say they’ll cancel it after I’ve had this further 6 months!
They clearly don’t do this as they are hoping you won’t notice! I will NEVER take out a subscription to a Hearst Magazine again. By the way - most public libraries through their e collections app (Libby) give you free access to both House Beautiful and Good Housekeeping magazines. So now you know!

I have tried cancelling my subscription…

I have tried cancelling my subscription online as per their email but have attempted several times with no luck. I have sent several requests for a password reset. Have checked my spam folder but no emails!!!!
They are day light robbers. Once they’ve got your details they are just out to fleece you. Better to buy these magazines from the shelf rather than from subscriptions.

Difficult to cancel

Difficult to cancel. No correspondence from the company including no emails for the duration of my subscription 18 months. The only reference to the subscription number is on the envelope the magazine arrives in. Tried to get into my account to cancel which required password reset which I requested. This was supposed to trigger an email but this never arrived after several attempts and days. Not even in spam Mail. Had to Google the phone number and request cancellation of my direct debit. This is one of those companies that relies on people forgetting or being too busy to go to trouble of cancelling. I’m both unfortunately. They then make it as difficult as possible to do this by not making the process straight forward.

SHAMBLES

Have tried to change magazines half way through the subscription year. Not sure if it is a real person answering my emails as both times they have got it wrong with my very simple request. Won't be using them again when the subscription finishes, and not sure I will bother buying Good Housekeeping again. If I do it will be from a shop.
