My 86 year old mother who is a widow

My 86 year old mother who is a widow, lives on her own, has been diagnosed with heart failure, has mobility problems and numerous other ailments which come with old age. She relies heavily on her stair lift for bathroom and access to and from her bedroom. I (her son) is her carer and as it happened went away on holiday, on my return home my mother said that her chairlift stopped working whilst i was away.
With the help of her neighbour they phoned a repair company to come to repair said lift. The engineer on his visit diagnosed faulty batteries and did not carry that type of battery on his van, he said he'd source one and come back to replace when in receipt of batteries, which he has done, the lift is back working and everything is good. The Issue is the price:
Here we go - £150 + Vat call out = £180, he didn't have battery on van came back 3 days later another £150 + Vat = £180 callout,
plus an additional £96 for battery and fitting. Totalling £456!!!
batteries costs anywhere between £30 -£50!!
Had a lengthy and defensive conversation with finance director about costs and she justified the £456 cost!!!!!! and said for me not to phone them ever again if my mothers lift breaks down, she said my mother agreed to paying them over the phone, which she did! with neighbour present to relay information, shes 86 vulnerable and needed lift to work!!!!!!
So you decide whether you want to pay a Company £456 for a battery, or maybe try a local electrician save yourself a few hundred pound from this company!!! For the vulnerable elderly speak to a friend and share this post.
