Waterco Electroheat MKIV not worth the money

My advice to anyone considering buying a Waterco heat-pump pool heater is to choose another brand - it does not extend the swimming season or meet the specifications advertised in the brochure, on top of appalling customer and technical services provided by both Waterco and their local suppliers (Swimart).

I purchased a Waterco Electroheat MKIV 23kW pool heat pump less than two years ago and this pump is just costing lots of electricity with very inefficient pool water heating. At times, it seems that the heat pump cools the water!! The most it can do is heat the water by about 1.5 degrees on a very warm day over the course of 8 hours (this is probably mostly due to the blanket). After chasing Swimart (whom I bought the pump from) and Waterco for nearly two months about this issue, a technician was finally sent to inspect the heat pump and reported that the pump is operational (yes, it turns on and there is a water blanket!). It appears that Waterco and Swimart are satisfied that this expensive heat pump does not perform as stated in their brochure. In the brochure for this heat pump it says “Between 10°C to 18°C, it will increase your water temperature by 3°C to 5.5°C a day. Over 21°C you should obtain an increase up to 0.8°C an hour and over 26°C up to 1.1°C an hour.” This is garbage as my heat pump does not operate in anyway close to that detailed in the brochure.

I have provided Waterco with further evidence on the poor performance of the heat pump. On a 20 degree day, the heat pump heated the pool water temperature at a rate of ~0.3 °C/hour and it increased the water temperature by 1.8 degrees over 6 hours. Following this, the pool temperature then decreased from 23°C to 22.5°C over two hours. So, the heat pump cooled the water at a rate of 0.25 °C/hour even though the outside temperature was ~19°C and there was lots of icing on the heat pump.

In conclusion, with running the heat pump for over 8 hours on a warm day, it appears that the best that it can do is an increase of 1.3 degrees. I asked Waterco if this is the best that the heat pump can do but they have failed to respond to my email. I have sent 3 further emails, directly to the NSW Service Manager but there has still been no response.

Since Waterco have not responded to my queries, I presume the silence means that they don’t have an answer and that the heat pump is not in good working condition. To be frank, the customer service from both Waterco and Swimart has been appalling. Waterco can’t provide any answers to why my heat pump is performing so poorly. My advice is that you should not buy a Waterco heat-pump pool heater since it clearly does not extend the swimming season, their advertising in the brochure is false and their customer and technical services appalling.

Never any senior staff

Whilst the casual staff are polite, when it comes to problems with the pool they have no idea. Every time I have been there I have never seen or spoken to anyone with the proper experience.

Family friendly with expert advice

Swimart Maroochydore is THE place to go to on the Sunshine Coast. The staff are always polite, friendly and extremely helpful with a great "family" vibe to the place. I have been going there to see Harley or Derek or Sam for years and they can never be helpful enough.

Bringing our dated yellow pebblecrete pool into the 21st century.

We recently converted our dated yellow pebblecrete pool into a sleek contemporary glass bead finish. Brandon and his team were utterly professional through every stage of the process. We had to contend with COVID construction lockdowns at critical stages of the project, but Brandon was adaptive and navigated a safe path forward with minimal delays. His team of tradespeople were punctual, quiet, neat and inspired confidence. We are delighted with the end product which finished on time and on budget. Thanks Swimart Lindfield.

Water Test

Went in to do a water test. The service person was friendly and courteous.

I may revise this rating if I discover that the test results were incorrect. I couldn't believe that my salt level was well above the last reading when I know that I had not put in any salt since March and the pool had mustard algae last week.

The product Cal Stop I bought was $20…

The product Cal Stop I bought was $20 more than on all previous occasions and on checking the internet when I got home, the suppliers retail price is still $78.
Swimart charged $97 - I won’t be going back even though I’ve been with them for 20+ years and spent $10,000 on my pool resurfacing 7 years ago!
All other outlets were less than $80
