Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 675 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the customer service, citing unhelpful interactions and difficulty reaching representatives who could resolve their issues. Reviewers frequently reported problems with payments, including issues with automatic payments not processing correctly, unexpected late fees, and difficulties making payments through various methods. A common concern was the bank's practice of lowering credit limits without clear reasons, even for customers with good payment histories, which negatively impacted their credit scores. Some people also felt that the company's policies, such as those related to interest charges and account closures, were unfair and led to unexpected financial burdens. Additionally, several customers experienced problems with fraudulent charges and found the resolution process to be inadequate.

1 star is too high

1 star is too high. Someone on the inside was using our credit card as soon as a new one was activated. This happened a few times before we caught on to the scam. Absolutely horrible entity. Financial institutions have a fiduciary responsibility to their customers & this company is the farthest thing from responsible.

This company is laugh outloud AWFUL

This company is laugh outloud AWFUL, and it's no surprise it has this appallingly bad rating, which would and should sink any reputable company and force it to shut down. I just applied for credit for Lasik surgery for $10,000 because I can but don't want to pay cash for the procedure. I have a very high net worth, own multiple properties that are completely paid for that I collect rent on every month, have nearly NO debt, and my FICO hovers between 820-850. Synchrony turned me down online within 20 seconds. I intend to contact the head of the business office tomorrow at the major Orange County medical facility whose business office referred Synchrony to me--since they are one of the biggest in the OC--to tell them they should immediately stop insulting THEIR paying clients who have procedures done through their medical group, procedures that make THEM money, by offering as their only "credit" option such a GARBAGE company. When I think about someone like me, who has worked for 60+ years very hard to get to where he is, and if I'm turned down, then who on God's earth WILL Synchrony approve and lend to? Don't waste your time, they are TRASH.

This is a horrible company

This is a horrible company. No respect for customers. They dropped my credit line even though I was making my payments on time. They then closed my account. Customer service does not care to help. I would never bank with them again.

I strongly recommend thinking twice…

I strongly recommend thinking twice before opening a store card with this company. I signed up because of a promotional discount, but the experience quickly turned into a headache.

After receiving the card, I made a couple of payments and then misplaced it since I rarely used it. When I tried to get help, reaching customer service was extremely difficult—I spent about 40 minutes on hold. When I finally got through, the representative was unhelpful and dismissive.

I asked for online account access so I could simply pay off the balance and close the account, but I was told they couldn’t even set that up. At that point, it felt like they were making it harder than necessary to resolve a simple issue.

Overall, the lack of support, long wait times, and inability to manage my account easily made this a very frustrating experience. I would caution others to be careful before signing up.

"Trailing Interest Bullshit"!

Be careful as this bank charges "trailing interest" which prevents you from ever being done. I even paid through customer service and aksed if I am done with payments and was told yes. After another moth went by, I got this late notice saying I owe interest which was the "trailing interest"! I paid that and now they are harrasing me more interest of $6 and they are affecting my credit score! STAY AWAY FROM THIS BANK!

Agents are clueless

Agents are clueless. Agents lie and make up departments to act like they are assisting you and give you the thought that you’re talking to someone else. They’ll lie give terrible advice that only ends up hurting you in the long wrong. Have excuses for everything. They can’t talk to you about your own info on the phone unless you have a letter first - crazy. Their app and log in process online is absolutely terrible. Agents contradict other agents. 10/10 wouldn’t use again.

To synchronybank.com security is not important

I don't do credit. I bought my last vehicle in 2007 with cash. I signed with synchronybank.com to get a discount with amazon.com. When I signed up I used a short, weak password. synchronybank.com WILL NOT ALLOW me to change it. Their online support is useless. This is so far away from best practices, it is unbelievable.

I mistakenly made a payment to a closed…

I mistakenly made a payment to a closed account with Synchrony Bank. Trying to speak to a representative when calling the customer service number was a fiasco. The automated system continued to try to force me to make a payment. I needed to speak to someone. When I finally got a representative after almost a half hour on hold they could not help me. That person transferred me to someone else who then thought I was calling for a Pay as you Go account. Once again they couldn't help me and preceded to transfer me once again to the same automated line. To wait on hold another half hour. This was very frustrating I finally reached a 3rd representative who tried to help me. He opened a dispute explained I had to upload proof of payment. I see the dispute but no way to upload a pic of proof. This was the worse experience I ever had with customer service starting with the automated system. I'm still dealing with this issue I know I created from the start. I just want that payment to be transferred to the correct account.

They are the absolute worst

They are the absolute worst! I had 8 cards with them, mainly store cards. I got 8 letters from them saying they had closed my accounts for "high risk of failure to pay". I have an 800+ credit score, have NEVER had a late payment with anyone, never near my credit limit and they are paid off every month unless it's a promotional balance. I even went to a credit counselor to see if I was doing something wrong. He could not believe they had done this after looking at my credit history. Basically the answer I got back from Synchrony is "we can close your account if we want to". I will miss my Sam's card, PayPal credit and Verizon but I will survive. I want nothing to do with this POS company!

DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Have had cards for years with a good amount if credit extended. Perfect payment history, pay more than minimum on autopay, never late and pay down balances. Then all of a sudden they start lowering credit limit to amount owed and as I pay that down the start closing cards. It has shattered my credit score by 100 points. And the businesses people would normally patronize are losing money if this is widespread because we will no longer spend there. I do have other cards with other banks but I won’t use them to spend at places synchrony no longer extends credit. I wouldn’t recommend at all. Your credit will eventually be destroyed. I’m extremely frustrated with this bank.

Money Pending for No Reason AND Awful Customer Service

Extremely bad customer service. Farrah (I believe that was her name?) talked over me, did not listen or acknowledge what I said and was extremely rude and condescending.
She said she did not know how “the algorithm” transferring money works and refused to look into how/why money was taken out of my account.
When I asked for clarification about what to do if I don’t see my money back after 7 days when their system releases it, she said “I don’t know how I can make this any more clear for you.” in a catty way.
I feel very disrespected when I was just trying to get help.
Obviously this company and its staff do not care about their customers at all.

This is the absolute worst company…

This is the absolute worst company ever. I have a Home Depot card which had $5,000.00 credit limit within 8 months of making my first purchase lawn and gardens equipment totaled around $1,100.00 this sorry company dropped my credit limit to $1,200.00. When I called the bank they tell me the reason they lowered my credit limit is because I have too much credit. I have never been late and always paid over my monthly payments. That move synchrony made by lowering my credit limit caused my credit score to drop. I wish there was something you could do to them. This company purposely damages people credit and there is nothing you can do about it. STAY away from this company
