Very slow shipping
Very slow shipping, lies about why when you call and ask whats going on. They claim they always have sales which slows their shipping. Ordered two small items, not even large bulky items. Avoid the garbage and order on Amazon.
Tandy Leather/ Fedex/ Control account
I placed through Tandy Leather, which has now resulted in an unjust and completely absurd debt collection notice from Control Account.
Let me be clear: the total I paid to Tandy Leather at the time of purchase included shipping. At no point during checkout, confirmation, or fulfillment was I told that I would be separately billed by FedEx or any other third party. Yet months later, I receive a letter from a debt collection agency—entirely out of the blue—demanding payment for shipping charges that should have been covered by Tandy Leather.
This is not only dishonest, it's sloppy and unprofessional. If your company is incapable of handling its own logistics billing, perhaps you shouldn’t be charging customers for shipping at all. Your internal failure to settle up with FedEx is your problem, not mine—and trying to offload that responsibility to a paying customer months after the fact is as shameless as it is unethical.
lots of adds in the email, but shipping very slow.
Ordered Sept 8th, now Sept 18th. still no shipment. Seems like they want to sell a lot but when you buy they do not want to ship.
So many things wrong with Tandy. they flood your email with adds , sales then you buy and that is it. You are lucky to hear from them. day after day goes by no shipment.
But they do take your money fast.
So many times I need an item and they are out of stock on it. They do have sales on items it seems nobody wants. Now I find myself buying items paying for them only to find they gave me a refund for an item I already paid for. But still did not ship my other items. Do not know what went wrong with them. use to order and they shipped within 3 days now you wait for weeks.

Well, I don't think I will be ordering from Tandy ever again. Most leather supply companies have your product to you in a respectable amount of time. I placed an order online on Sept. 2, 2025 and I'm still waiting for it to show up. Today is Sept. 10, 2025 and I cannot believe I'm still waiting. Tandy used to be very good at getting orders out in a timely manner. I don't know what is going on with them anymore.

I have been a leatherworker on and off for 25 yrs or more..I've usually bought all my products through a Tandy dealer. first of all ..you can't please everyone. Most of the products I've bought thru Tandy have been of good enough quality for an occasional leathercraft person like myself. I've found the leather to be fresh and easily crafted and the tools about a 3 or 4 star quality and affordable. I have bought some specialty tools from other suppliers because That's What I Needed...
The selection of leathers is great and delivery is Big 5 star. I live in a very rural area yet my delivery's are 2 or 3 days. There's no point in complaining about Tandy..if you don't like a certain tool..go buy it elsewhere. Tandy has never let me down for online leather orders..I don't get any shitty dried out old hides and their customer communications are excellent. If you're not happy..they fix it at their expense. What more could you ask for ? The full time professional crafter have their sources..for us..home crafter.. Tandy fits the budget and product selection and they will talk to you to make it right if you're not happy..Thank You Tandy for the years of good service and great products. !!

Buyer Beware
Buyer Beware. I was encouraged by the staff to take several hides home to check for the best color for a upholestry project. I was told I could return them in 60 days as long as they were not cut. When I took them back upon examining them they said one had been cut and they wouldn't return it. I returned all 5 hides just the way I bought them. It was clear when they pointed it out that it had been cut, but that was the way it was when I bought it. So not only was I not able to return it but I was forced to pay $169 for only a partial hid. They say they examine every hid before they leave the store but obviously this one went unnoticed. Sadly enough when I got them home I wondered why one hid was so much smaller than the rest but still didn't realize it had been cut. My advice is if you are taking anything out of the store on trial take photos in the store of the hid with the employee holding it so if there is a question later you have proof. Even if I had examined it myself I wouldn't of realized it was cut. I would of just thought that was the way it was.

Poor lighting and poor placement of leather
Went down today (drove a hour and 40mins to get there) the store wasn’t really put together well , pricing was everywhere , the lighting was awful we was there for over a hour trying to find a perfect leather for a project we got what we thought was a green (from their lighting) for home and it was a brown 😩😩 talk about bummer!! Spent 400$ and over 3.5 travel time and a hour in the store and now we can’t use that particular leather , it was pretty busy and only 1 lady working and she was great but the store alone needs better lighting and needs to be put together better!

I like the store and use a specific modeling tool. It's smaller than a pencil. I ordered 3 online and the only shipping option was 18.00! My order could go in the smallest box or small envelope any shipper would handle and I cant even find a price close to what they charged me. Not real happy.

Shipping RIP OFF!
I have to say that the Tandy leather company has dishonest shipping practices. I ordered 4 conchos equaling less than 2 ounces in weight, being shipped from their Texas facility to the West Coast via UPS, who turned the package over to the USPS. this shipping cost $18.00 - more than the cost of the conchos. I would suggest that folks look closely to see how much they are being charged to avoid this kind of Rip-Off!

Ordered online. Product not what advertised
Bought an on line cow hide to be shipped to friend. Friend at my house yesterday saw same item (hair on cowhide) on my floor. She stated “that’s what I wish I had”. Umm that’s what they sent you. “No, yours has hair on it. Mine looks like it was just printed on”.
Totally embarrassed my. Customer service at Tandy wants me to look at back to get product stamp. If they are in the wrong to ship it back. They live in another state.
This was a gift to them. I am totally embarrassed by this. I cannot ask them to involve themselves. To ask me to “prove it” is simply appalling.
I’m done with Tandy after 30 odd years.

I love the Tandy leather products. So many varieties and colors to choose from. I make a lot of moc's and like to know the local store is carrying good inventory and I am never disappointed!

Shame since the company seems better run in texas, i have tandy pro tools that I plan on returning as I wont tolerate a 55 years old purple haired teenager to release her unsatisfied sexual frustrations on me. Not ever even getting a snap from them again
Low quality tools
Low quality tools, most are not sharp and you have to sharpen them when you get them, but the quality doesn't last and it roughs up your leather. If you want low quality (not recommended), just get tools from China online. If you want good quality (definitely recommended for leathercraft), better to get Japanese tools or expensive artisan tools, it's worth the extra money.
