Liars and hoodwinkers

I was also advised, persuasively, to stop paying my IVA as it has been 'missold'. I was fobbed off that it was taking time through the courts. I was told not to contact Credit Fix, the company with whom I had the IVA. I paid £540 to the Byrne Practice for their 'services'. Then, on 31/10/23, I was suddenly dropped, by email, and was told the Byrne Practice had gone out of business (seems not- now trading as tbplaw). I am 63, coming up to retirement, I live alone, and I've been dropped like a stone. They do not answer or respond. The CAB are trying to help me, but I may even lose my pension. This company is scandalously evil.

Facebook group "Mis-sold IVA claim - The Byrne Practice - Help and next steps"

As per the 2 most recent post I too have taken a mis-sold IVA claim through The Byrne Practice and now in the dark on what to do next, I have set up a face book group "Mis-sold IVA claim - The Bryne Practice - Help and next steps". I would like to welcome anyone effected by this to the group as I am in conversations with other solicitors about what my options are.

The worst company I have ever come…

The worst company I have ever come across!! Contacted my partner almost 3 years ago regarding his IVA! Told to stop paying it and they would be able to get compensation for the money paid to the IVA company! Paid £540 to them on a promise it would go to court to prove it was Mis sold! Friday 27th October receive an email to say they could no longer move forward and company supposedly ceased on the 31st! Well talking to an insolvency company you haven’t ceased! You don’t take advantage of people already struggling and then take them for more money and then Disappear! The contact was horrific and the treatment disgusting! Liam Byrne you should be disgusted with yourself and the hundreds of people I guarantee you have done this to

Avoid them like the plauge

I started a pension misselling claim with The Byrne Practice six years ago. In that time I have received one letter and despite numerous attempts to contact them by phone they never return my calls. Avoid them like plague.

Excellent Service & Communication - Conveyancing

I recently used these Solicitors on selling my rental property as they were recommended by a colleague who had used them in the past. My contact was with Jamie-Louise Tomlinson and I have to say from my initial telephone call through to completion, she kept me informed on the overall sale of the property and always returned by telephone calls/emails in a timely manner. Her experience in this area always put my mind at rest and I would highly recommend the conveyancing department. If the other services that they offer are as good as the conveyancing service, which I'm sure they are, I won't be hesitating to use them again. Joanne Brady

Poor Service

Nightmare to deal with when selling your house , first person dealing with the sale left didn’t pass on anything then Mr Bates took over, no communication almost lost the sale due to him and his lack of communication had estate agent, buyer and their solicitor ring me as he wasn’t replying, I was promised me a quick sale, wasn’t complicated as I wasn’t buying anything all I got was loads of stress and a long drawn out sale which nearly cost my buyer her stamp duty holiday discount.
Use them if you are laid back and not really bothered if you sell or not. When you pay for a service that is what you should get, professional, efficient representation and things dealt with in a timely fashion, when you don’t get it and complain and are made to feel you are some sort of inconvenience go elsewhere and don’t give them the benefit of the doubt, this is where I went wrong Main problems seemed to be lack of communication , internet that went down frequently and was blamed for documents not being recieved, staff not prioritising work correctly and an inability to use a phone if the internet was down.

We are sorry to hear that you have not received the high standards we aim for. The situation regarding staff departures, including Mr Bates leading to lack of communication is no excuse and for that we would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to both yourself and your buyer.

Lack of Communication

. The solicitor acting for my sister, from whom I was buying found it IMPOSSIBLE to contact the Byrne Practice. This was because Daniel Bates the Byrne Practice conveyancer and his assistant had left the firm, I was NOT informed. This has resulted in huge delays and me having to pay extra charges to my sister's solicitor. A poor service.

Miss Reynolds, we apologise for any inconvenience caused as a result of unexpected staff departures. Please appreciate no delays were caused on our behalf as we awaited the other side’s solicitors to respond. After chasing them for several weeks, they then wanted to treat the matter as an urgent completion which we proceeded to move forward on your behalf.

Stressful few months with nothing to show for it? Try TBP

Not sure about Doncaster’s best kept secret, The Head of Conveyancing is definitely their best kept secret. Instructed in January 2021 for the purchase of a property for my mother that has dementia and recently lost her husband. Received 0 phone calls and only 3 emails over four months. When the documents arrived there were many errors including incorrect names. Five months in the rest of the chain were ready to exchange we found out the searches were never applied for. The chain collapsed, the vendor was never heard from again and an ambulance had to be called for my mother, she suffered severe palpitations upon finding out she’d lost her property. Still never heard from The Head of Conveyancing nor an apology from The Byrne Practice. We’ve since found a much more professional practice. We’ve since found a much more professional practice. If you want a stressful few months with nothing to show for it, then TBP is for you.

In response to yours:
- I didn't receive the documentation in February and there was no response to my emails or phone calls. It wasn't until April when I finally achieved a response that someone advised they were missing a form
- My mother doesn't understand, I've mentioned before she has dementia, hence the palpitations when it fell through. You also knew she had recently lost her husband but at no point was this and the distress she may be in taken into consideration

It was a shoddy service caused by no communication from Mr Bates. The estate agents said it took them six weeks for a response from Daniel. At least they achieved more than I did. Complete lack of urgency, communication, empathy, consideration and professionalism.

Mr Wright, unfortunately the comments in your review are not entirely accurate.
As you are aware, we were unable to start the legal purchase process until you returned the instruction documents to us, signed. We sent these in February, you did not return them until April. Your initial delay was because you had not instructed us until April.
Your file was then passed to Daniel as Head of Department, this was due to the complexities that arose with your step-fathers estate. Without detailing the facts as to what came to light, it became apparent that we could no longer represent you and you were advised on several occasions over the course of a month that the firm could no longer proceed with your mothers purchase.
Your mother had a separate telephone conversation with Daniel and stated that she understood why we could not proceed with you as a client.
We acknowledge there was a misunderstanding with regards to the searches which resulted in them not being ordered, for which we apologise, and confirm you received the monies back.
We are sorry that you feel you did not receive a satisfactory service, but we are subject to very exacting rules and regulations and those rules and regulations meant we had to cease acting for you.

Avoid this company

I read negative reviews before commencing, spoke to the company and was assured that moving forward all would be well. I would not recommend this company to anyone, however great the saving - its not worth it. I have in my email a lengthy defensive response to my complaints, no responsibility taken at all and hence my review now. Happy to give more detail to anyone enquiring but for now AVOID

Avoid. Like. The. Plague.

Appalling service. I lost my buyer in a straight-forward 3 property chain after 6 months of little progress and 2 months of flat out ignoring emails and phone calls from me, my buyers solicitors, my vendors solicitors and the estate agents for both my sale and purchase. I have also lost the property I had an offer accepted on too, all due to lack of communication.

I appreciate we are in unprecedented times with regards to the property market and global pandemic, and didn't expect to get instant answers to my queries. However, after sending multiple emails and leaving messages with reception requesting a call back all without so much as an acknowledgement, I have no options but get the Legal Ombudsman involved.

We are sorry to hear that you have not received the high standards we wish and usually deliver, but we would like to highlight those communications were not ignored, unfortunately the matter was too complex for the original property lawyer, which meant it had to be reallocated internally. Unfortunately, with staff departures and the pandemic, this resulted in communications being delayed due to increased workloads, for this we would like to apologise.

Avoid if possible

Consistently near impossible to get any communication from them. We were told our contracts would be exchanged on X day, we were then ghosted and received no confirmation after multiple requests from ourselves. The day before we were meant to move we finally received response that we had to delay to the next working day (after the bank holiday weekend). I spent our second moving in date phoning and emailing repeatedly and being told by the receptionist our solicitor was unavailable for calls. It took until 2pm, on our supposed moving in date, for us to be told we would not be moving in and had to be delayed a week. When I finally got a phone call I had to force an apology and our solicitor admitted she knew there was no chance we would be moving in that day and that she "should of told us"...
I presume as we were first time buyers they thought they could take liberties.

We are sorry to hear about this Mr Bricknell. I have spoken with your conveyancer Donna who has informed that completion was originally scheduled for the 30th of April. On 28 March, we asked the builder’s solicitor to confirm they had lodged their application at the Land Registry as we needed to secure our client’s lender on the title at the Land Registry.
This is a requirement of us as panel solicitors and failure to do so is negligence. We were informed on 29 march that the application had not been submitted. We could therefore not secure their interest on the title and completion had to be delayed. We informed you both only 4 minutes after receiving the confirmation from the seller’s solicitor, but they put forward a completion date of 4th May as an alternative.
We then chased the builder’s solicitor that day to see whether their application had been submitted and immediately informed the client we were doing this. After the bank holiday, we informed them that we had still not had confirmation from the builder’s society that they had submitted their application to the Land Registry. Because of the builder’s delay we had to return the mortgage funds and then agreed on completion for the 11th of May. We then received the documentation from the builder’s solicitor on 5th May which means we were then able to protect the lender. The clients were kept up to date with proceedings.
It is very unfortunate that the following delays were caused by the Builder’s solicitor and we were also given information a day before we were due to complete. At no point however did we require an apology from you and wish to make very clear that it was not required whatsoever, we are sorry that you felt you had to. It is concrete that you both have been kept up to date with your house purchase as shown in email chains. Given the current climate the housing market has seen an influx in business which has caused obvious delays, but we do aim to make sure that yourself and all other clients are our number one priority.

First Time Buyers: AVOID!

We are first time buyers and couldn't have feel more neglected as a paying client on any occasion. We've been continuously let down by our conveyencer on timelines and commitments. There is no clarity on what has been done by when, if not done why wasn't and how to solve. We definetly DO NOT recommend this office to anyone.
