Customer service is horrible

Customer service is horrible.
Questions don't get answered and they don't take any responsibility for their mistakes. If you inherit an account, watch out! They will put it in a Margin Account. The Conversion Form is very tricky if you inherit an account.

Unjustifiable Futures Commissions

IN 2023, I simply cannot understand why TD charges $2.25 a contract for futures trading. It is crazy it is not justifiable whatsoever. It is not that TOS is the most superior platform out there compared to others especially when it comes to Futures trading yet their charges are simply ridiculous. I would love to use TOS since i can integrate all my trading in one platform, that is Options, stocks and futures but I had to move to other platforms that are fair in futures pricing....until TD get back to their senses and review this unjustifiable Futures commission

So bad it can`t be incompetence

Two years after my first attempt that failed ridiculously on their incompetence, I took a deep breath and tried again to apply for a margin account. Here`s how it went:

To be allowed to trade margin products, you are supposed to fill out and sign a couple of forms. So I emailed customer service, asking for the forms and asking a question.

- They emailed back, forgetting to attach the forms, forgetting to answer the question. So I followed up.
- They emailed back with the form, forgetting to answer the question. So I followed up again.
- They finally answered the question.

So far so good (?). I filled out the forms, and sent them back. Turns out there was another set of forms that they forgot to attach. Turns out there is also a checkbox online I have to tick. So I went online to do so.

- The website was broken, so I emailed them asking how I can tick a box, if it`s not shown on the website.
- They emailed a few days later, saying they fixed my account
- I went back to click the checkbox, which was still not there
- So I emailed them again- The response I got this time was that my account is all good.- I emailed again, asking if there is anything else I have to do (since I recalled there was supposed to be some additional documents I was supposed to sign) and got the confirmation that my account is now all good
- I tried but I still didn`t have permission to trade derivatives
- So I emailed them again asking what`s up
- When they responded that I have to click some checkbox online I gave up the second time.

I don`t know if they hire customer service staff from the circus or these are all saboteurs from competing brokerages, trying deliberately to mess up customer experience and prevent account upgrades. Either way, I will try again in two more years, hoping Schwab will be able to get rid of the clowns.

Folks on Visa don't Select TD ameritrade (System doesn't consider you as resident)

Company Doesn't check the residential status according to IRS they simply look at the Country of Origin and ignore the Substantial Presence test. As a result, if you take out any money, income or dividend or principal amount , they will tax you at 30% and there is no way of reversing it. They send a form 1042s which will be filed along with 1080 NR. But you will be filing 1080 due to residential status. Customer Service know they should not have done it and they simply blame the system instead of accepting the mistake.

Strange pricing changes

I have found the staff to be very helpful. It's just that something strange happens when I place an options trade. The mark price could be the same for several minutes. But when I place the trade at the mark price, it always changes up or down, not in my favor. Then, if I cancel the trade, the mark price goes to what it was before I placed the trade. This happens all the time, so I think I will transfer my account elsewhere. I did call about it, but the staff member said the mark and bid and ask prices are not set by them. But it's so consistent, I consider it to be noncoincidental.

DESPICABLE INEPT COMPANY

first let me say that TDAMERITRADE is not the same company anymore. they were bought out by CHARLES SWAB. td used to be awesome. great agents service was superior and they fixed any problems quickly. they card about customers. sadly they get bought out by this swab people. never liked them and i had poor servcie form them in the past. swab is disgusting. they always were and now they are ruining td. they all sound half dead over there now. they make mistakes and then leave the customer with the unresolved problems. they are rude nasty and careless. i was tired of getting yelled at and i filed a complaint as this is my retirement money and its important. i dont need crappy people and service nor does any customer deserve this mess. they apparently dont have any quality training and they dont care who they hire. when i complained about the lack of care from these people they retaliated and sent me some childish NASTY RUDE letter telling me we will close your accounts. who cares i was going anyway and making plans to leave long beforehand. you are disgusting cheap and unworthy of being in business td/swab! another low level mismanaged unorganized company. who does not listen to its customers and wont make it better. thats why you have only 1 star and thats being generous.

Horrible company

Horrible company. They are fine if you never have a question or problems. Been with them for over 20 years from the time they were TD Waterhouse, even when they were charging more commissions than anyone else and today I had an issue that they would not help me with after waiting to get through on their phones they have no help online. They could have helped but chose not to because they are garbage.

While I can't say anything about the…

While I can't say anything about the actual trading with TD Ameritrade, I can say I opened an account with 5k with ease. Also, I withdrew the 5k back with ease (rather uncommon these days). But I never got to trade.

The proprietary "ThinkorSwim" platform is a visual nightmare vs the MT4 platform. I simply could not read the thing. And they don't use MT4.

I wish they offered it because I would have loved to have tried TD, despite the reviews. Sadly, the interface stinks.

I do not understand all the negative ratings. I have been with them for 15 years and l have had no real problems. Never been put on hold for more than a few minutes. Their web site is easy to use and has never been down. Never had a hold on any deposit. Because of my balance l can use private client services. This could be the reason why l get such good services however when l had a smaller balance and did not use private client services l still got excellent service

I would not recommend this company

I would not recommend this company. The reviews essentially say it all. I received this quote from customer service about a trade order I placed that they wouldn't accept. "Your (trading) stops may not protect you (in our trading platform)". Meaning. Individuals may have a trading order set to exit a trade in place and TD can't reliably execute it. Unbelievable. Just an awful experience that cost me hundreds.

TD Ameritrade POOREST CUST SERVICE EVER!

Late in the year 2017, I received some stocks from inheritance. I do not live in Omaha Nebraska and requested to transfer my brokerage account closer to me and also chose Schwab at that time. TD Ameritrade gave me a forever difficult time trying to get my account transferred. They were calling me from Omaha, NE, they were calling me from Kansas City, and I don’t recall where all else, trying to convince me not to make the transfer. Eventually, I found success. Recently, however, I needed information regarding one simple transaction with TD Ameritrade just before transferring to Schwab. I call TD Ameritrade‘s toll-free number on my statement from that time frame with my ONE simple question. Looking for a simple answer. My two calls to the toll-free customer service number refused to give me any info whatsoever. This was, despite the fact I had all applicable information and tried to offer it. I was told I needed to contact the “firm” that I dealt with at the time. The person who answer that call was not “able” to give me any info either. Transfers me to some gentleman within the firm that I had to also leave a message. A woman returned my phone call stating no transactions of any type were ever made prior to transfer. Again pointing the finger back to Schwab. Call Schwaab (— to their toll, free customer service number. Who I might add, are extremely helpful). They explained to me how to go through and find past statements to look for the one and only transaction I ever made. But then, searched through a year of transactions for me, while on the phone. Schwab, found nothing. So, call back to TD Ameritrade firm and again leave ANOTHER message. The same woman calls me back a day later and finally admits the info I had been after all along. This is perfect reason why to leave Ameritrade! This is ridiculous! Basically force me to jump through 50 hoops and point the finger at the other investment company I transferred to. Why?? I have no idea… to try to deface Schwab and punish me because I did the unthinkable ?? Left Ameritrade as a customer? I find it humorous that Ameritrade has been bought out by Schwab. Looks like there are a lot of employees who may be in definite need of retraining. Especially in the department of customer service! Good luck to all —

TD Ameritrade is pretty good overall!

I've used TDA for a long time. I give them 3 out of 5 stars because they are pretty much useless for speed trading, or anything under 5 minute trades. Then, their price execution for market orders can be hit or miss. As far as an IRA or Swing Trading, they are great. I've also had good experiences with customer support and thinkorswim. If you learn to use thinkscripts related to tos, it's extremely useful for identifying trends and getting price triggers.
