Phone sold not as described

Beware, this company sells phones through backmarket.co.uk

I had the misfortune of spending over £520 on a "good" condition Pixel Fold. It arrived with tons of scratches on the screen and body and the phone doesn't even unfold properly. Noone even had the decency to clean it prior to sending it out.

They are either not checking what they are sending out or they are willingly doing this to scam people. Not sure which, but either way don't use them directly and if you see them supplying anything on backmarket - avoid.

Initially worried...

I've got to admit that upon reading the recent reviews on here, I thought I'd made a terrible mistake on spending £140 on a second-hand phone on here. I probably wouldn't have purchased it if I'd found the reviews first - but oddly on an alternative review site, the comments weren't bad at all for Techmanic.

Made the purchase on Friday and by close of Monday it was still showing as just "ordered". I was worried and beginning to think I'd made a very unwise decision. However, sent an email enquiry as to when it would be despatched and received a reply almost immediately saying the phone would be going out very shortly by Royal Mail 48.

It arrived today and I'm absolutely delighted. It's in excellent condition as described by the listing. Battery seems great. No problems with up and running straight away - almost looks like a brand new phone.

So I'm really pleased and without hesitation I would recommend this company. Thanks very much.

Terrible

Terrible. I ordered a phone in excellent condition, a knackered old one was delivered. Techmanic offered me a discount or a refund. "Refund please" I replied.
That was the last I heard from them. They simply did not reply to any further attempt at contact. I had to force a refund by contacting my credit card supplier.
Avoid at all costs.
P.S. Fancy website, but they are operating from a semi detatched house in Croydon.

Outright Fraud — Avoid Techmanic Ltd.

I purchased a phone from Techmanic Ltd through Back Market, advertised as being in “excellent” condition. What arrived was a blatant scam.

The phone came already set up — skipping the usual first-time setup screen — a clear sign that this was not a new or properly refurbished device. Worse, it was deliberately set to dark mode, which conveniently masked severe glue leakage around the screen edges (known as “glue gate”), a defect that leads to screen failure.

Adding insult to injury, I ordered a 128GB model and was sent a 256GB one — this was not a generous upgrade, but a desperate attempt to offload a faulty phone. The screen defects became immediately visible the moment I switched to light mode — a deliberate and sneaky move to hide damage from unsuspecting buyers.

This entire transaction was nothing short of a con. Techmanic Ltd clearly engages in deceptive practices and cannot be trusted. Avoid this seller at all costs.

Shame I can't give a minus score

Shame I can't give - scores to this company. They sold me a dodgy phone with 12 months warranty. Flip 3 samsung. Where the crease is in the middle of the phone it was broken (checking online this is common) I voiced my concern but they offered me £20 off and the phone they said still has the 12 month warranty. It's now bled all over the screen 8 months on. They won't entertain me just saying you must have dropped it. Nope never dropped it once it's the crease in the middle that's bled making the phone unusable. Avoid this company at all costs. They will take your money and not care. Horrible greedy company. I'll just go on every platform do expose this crooked company. Ebay already on it as they promised 12 month warranty.

sold me a faulty item, with no refund.

Do a lot of research before you buy from them if you look at the one star reviews you can see I am not the only person this has happened too. This company's customer service is atrocious. They sold me a faulty tablet for £474.99. When I contacted them, I was told to send the item back. They did not pay for postage. I tracked the item; they received it. They informed me they were 'fixing the item.' It has been four months since then. I have repeatedly asked them for a refund, but they have ignored every email. I am disgusted and mortified that I am £474.99 out of pocket, which does not include the postage I paid for.

EDIT: After threatening legal action and countless emails. The company then asked me to pay them an extra £99. I refused.
Eventually I was sent a repaired tablet and so far there are no issues with it. Regardless of their 12 month warranty they are now harassing me with emails to change my reviews as they have "taken a massive loss" I'm appalled by their complete lack of accountability. I will not be buying for them again.

Hi,

After many months of using the Tablet, You damaged the Tablet and sent back to us a dead Tablet.

We tried to get this fixed but we were unable to fix it due to it got damaged.
We did not damage the tablet but it was damaged by you after many months of using it.

You requested for another one even though we are not supposed to but as a good will gesture we sent you out another Tablet and you requested for this to be sent out so then you can change it.

Anyway we have solved the problem even though we weren't at fault here.

Completely untrustworth

Do not buy from this company as their guarantee is worthless. I bought a phone for £125 and 13 weeks later the battery died making the phone unusable. They offered to change the battery but I would have to wait at least 4 weeks to get the phone back. I said I needed a phone so that wasnt an option. They offered me an £8 reduction on a new phone as long as I paid them with a cash transfer directly to their bank account!! I said I wouldnt make an unprotected payment like that but they refused a credit card or PayPal so i told them i would buy the phone from ebay and ask Ebay for a refund against the other phone. However, this company then blocked me from making another purchase and thus prevented me from getting any compensation. I have reported them to ebay. Ebay said they will punish the seller for their behaviour but unfortunately as I was over the 30 day money back guarantee time I would not be able to get any money back from this seller now that he had prevented me from buying another phone. Unfortunately I paid with a friends debit card and not with paypal. What a unethical company with a dreadful customer service
