I strongly regret ever choosing Tello

I strongly regret ever choosing Tello. This has been one of the most frustrating and time-wasting experiences I’ve had with any phone provider.

I purchased a number a few days ago with a very simple and legitimate intention: to port it out to Google Voice. My number is fully active, working, and confirmed. There is absolutely no technical reason for any delay. Yet here I am, almost FOUR DAYS later, being blocked with vague excuses like “it needs time to set up.” That’s not an explanation — that’s stalling.

Let’s be honest about what’s happening here: this looks like a deliberate tactic to prevent customers from porting out quickly so they can keep charging you longer. There is no transparency, no urgency, and no respect for the customer’s time — especially when the request is completely standard and time-sensitive.

I am leaving the country very soon, and this unnecessary delay is causing real inconvenience. Instead of resolving the issue, I’m being given generic responses that solve nothing. This is unacceptable.

If this is not resolved immediately, I will be posting this experience everywhere — review platforms, forums, and social media — because people deserve to know how Tello handles customers when they try to leave.

Avoid this provider if you value your time, your control over your number, and basic customer service.

We would like to clarify the technical requirements regarding your request. A standard 3 to 7-day synchronization period is necessary to fully register your number before it's ready for port out.

Regarding the concerns about billing, please note that Tello plans operate on a 30-day billing cycle. As your plan has already been paid for the current month, no additional charges will occur during this brief synchronization window. The allegation that this is a tactic to incur further charges is incorrect, as there is no further billing within that timeframe.

While we understand that Tello may not meet the specific needs of users looking to purchase and port out numbers instantly, we remain committed to providing transparent service for all our customers.

Julia was very knowledgeable and patient. She was very clear with step by step instructions, and confirmed what actions took place with specific phone numbers. I am sure she is a tremendous asset to your company. I wish all of my customer service interactions were with employees like Julia.

I had a great customer service…

I had a great customer service experience and Darrel was very patient and clear in his explanation to me about problem with my phone number not connecting to service/ eSIM issue. He is good at his job. I would recommend Tello customer service to anyone. I’ve been on an over 30 minute wait time calls with former phone carrier with sometimes little help. Tello impresses me right away. Go Tello! Thank you.

somehow my text messages stopped coming…

somehow my text messages stopped coming in, and I was in a panic. Darrell was very knowledgeable and helpful, and also looked up recent activity on the phone to make sure I wasn't the victim of phone hacking. Darrell maintained a calm and professional demeanor throughout, and was quickly successful at trouble shooting the problem. Other than following his instructions, I wasn't much help. Darrell is worth his weight in gold to your org, and I hope this is recognized where it needs to be.

You get what you pay for

You get what you pay for. Dirt cheap service but the worst coverage I've experienced. The service is so bad that I will soon return to mint mobile.

A great alternative for when you experience low coverage or you are in areas with no coverage, is Wi-Fi calling and text. This feature is available on the vast majority of Tello GSM-compatible phones and you can check your own phone settings to confirm. It allows for calling & texting (sending & receiving) via the closest available Wi-Fi network.

Port-in of the old mobile number

The set up of a new account as well service of Tello seems to work just fine. The only major issue I have is to port-in my existing phone number from a T-Mobile business account.
Despite having Tello and T-mobile talking directly to each other and Tello confirming, the issue is on Tello's side, the port-in still was not successful after 10 days. The standard answer from Tello is: The case is under investigation ". The request to talk to a Tello supervisor was rejected.
