Lack of Quality Ingredients

This review pertains to Templeman’s Toffees out of Uxbridge Ontario, Canada: I hold all English Toffee up to the standard of Jane and Sue Chocolate in P.E.I., Canada— probably one of the best chocolatiers in the country. Their English toffee is rich, buttery and delicate, and the chocolate is deeply complex, beautifully textured, and delicious. A high bar to meet, clearly. Templeman’s Toffee falls well short of that bar. I will not elaborate on shipping and communication problems caused solely by the proprietor, except to say the experience was decidedly unpleasant. Now the toffee: The dark chocolate Sea Salt Crunch Toffee is heavily over-salted— crunch indeed!! My wife and I both agree that there is far too much salt internally as well as on the crust. I do not exaggerate when I say it was inedible due to the salt— very sad as I ordered 600 grams of the stuff!! Whatever genuine chocolate essence there is in the dark-chocolate-type covering is overwhelmed by salt. I got the sense that excellent quality butter and other ingredients are not used (or at the very least are under-used) in the making of the toffee— it has a mass market kind of taste. Perhaps that is why the ingredients are not listed on the website? The toffee is also far too thick for my liking. The Canadian Crunch (milk chocolate walnut covered toffee) is a marginal improvement but still neither the chocolate nor the toffee is first class and the toffee tastes a bit odd again. The Maple Toffee Chews and the Loaded Chewy Toffee again suffer from the same apparent lack of quality ingredients and talented thoughtful execution. Overall the toffee and the customer service were both a very disappointing experience. I will stick to Jane and Sue.
