I’m joining the club. I’m still waiting for an order placed 3 months ago. I received 1/2 the order. Still waiting for a duvet cover and 2 pillow shams. Useless. I used the site thinking it was good quality and helping makers with small batch products. Will try to pursue a refund and head to a Parachute retail store.
This company is clearly running some sort of a Ponzi scam. Delayed for 4 months!!! They never delivered anything on 2 occasions. Wrapped my credit card up for weeks. Even when I gave them one more chance. They sent me an invoice for a product I confirmed was available. I paid for the sheet set. Then they claimed it was no longer available. They said the invoice took too long to be paid. It was an hour.
I ended up with Quince. They actually delivered a linen set in a few days. Really excellent quality and I bought a send set right away.
I would give this company a 0 stars if I could. The customer service is nonexistent and trying to return / exchange something is RIDICULOUS. I’m glad that I’ve never purchased anything from this place (we got as a gift) because this I don’t support company’s that treat their customers this poorly.
I ordered from the citizenry. They charged my card. A month and a half later I have heard nothing and received nothing. It is theft. The company is a scam. Now I will have to start the process with my credit card company of disputing the charge and trying to get my money back.
If anyone is considering purchasing from this company, run in the other direction. My husband purchased an item for me for Mother’s Day, and 3 minutes afterwards realized Apple Pay had the wrong address. He called immediately and was given false information, poor customer service, and now we are facing over $200 spent on an item with sunk cost. They could have stopped shipping at any point, but blame their AI system for being unable to do so. AI does not run the company, people do. This was a terrible experience and I will not be shopping from them again.
Linen sheets are always a challenge. What you're paying for is the idea that you're doing the planet a world of good and your bedroom will appear as soft and inviting as that in a French villa (my description, not theirs). They do give a cozy feel and are soft, which is why I give 3 stars. The entire reality is that the sheets aren't worth the price. I had to go online to view a video on how to get the wrinkles out of the end that folds over the quilt at the top of the bed. You have to do it with water. It works, but don't kid yourself. You have to saturate the entire width of the section to smooth out the wrinkles. And you would have to repeat this process EVERY DAY, which I do not. I wish I read reviews before purchasing. After maybe four months I'm in the market for better sheets.
Purchased linen sheets in Feb and in september there was a HUGE GAPING HOLE. contacted customer service 7 times via email, 11 voicemails. NO RESPONSE. very shady company. really unfortunate bc here I thought i was 'being sustainable'.
2 stars because so far I like the linen bed sheets and duvet but the price of these plus almost $300 in duty fees to get them to Canada?! Ridiculous. Do not shop here if you’re Canadian. I don’t understand how every other vendor on the internet can include duties in the shipping process and the odd company like this couldn’t care less about their Canadian customer base. Add this to the “never ordering from here again” list.
I purchased their King Linen set and the sheets NEVER STOPPED SHEDDING! So much so, I had to buy a special handheld vacuum just to clean the bed when I pulled the sheets off. AND... because they never stopped shedding, now the sheets are paper thin and about to have holes everywhere. I've never seen anything like this. I wrote to their customer service and they just gave me a 10% off coupon for more sheets. Never again.
I purchased the Stonewashed Linen Sheet Set - Queen / Slate Blue in November 2021. It’s June 2023 and there is already a large hole forming in the sheets. We have 3 other sets of sheets in rotation and do not use these every night.
Extremely poor quality. Sheets should not disintegrate a year and a half after purchase. Especially since we do not use them every night.
Incredibly disappointed. We bought four Meru Counter Stools that were delivered in Sept. They’re currently priced at $649. Within a few weeks, the side “foot rest/support” broke on one of them. The wood piece that goes into the front leg sheered off. No one was stepping on it, a foot was resting on it (of a smaller 11 year old). I contacted customer service and they requested photos, which I supplied. They then told me to use wood glue and fix it myself. Or they would offer me 50% of what we payed. At this point, a second stool had broken. There is no way a nearly $650 stool should be breaking (same spot on both stools…The second break was from an 18 month old standing on it. A kitchen stool should withstand this…). I would HIGHLY recommend you spend your hard earned money elsewhere. If no one sits in them, they look great but they are poorly made and apparently poorly backed by Citizenry.
I think the quality and aesthetics of the products are great. And so is the customer service. Viet and Maggie are amazing. Knowledgeable, responsive, and incredibly helpful. A fantastic store with fantastic products and service!
I had bought a very expensive hand made wall hanging and kept it boxed for a few months while we redid our room. When we took it out of the box one the slipped off a hanging rod and were absolutely unable to fix it, the material was shredding. We tried everything. I wrote the citizenry with photos of the problem and a complete explanation. First they gave me some advice on how to fix it and when that didn’t work, they probably gave me a shipping label to ship the item back and shipped me a new one. Considering this is a handmade item. I really appreciated the customer service.
Purchased the Esperanza Bed Blanket, which was pricey, but I loved the pattern and colors so I decided to splurge. After literally two days out on our couch, not getting much use, I noticed it was getting fuzzy/pilly, pulled incredibly easily (the weave is very loose and fragile), and was shedding all over any black clothing. Alpaca is not supposed to shed. They either don't know what they're doing, or know exactly what they are doing and are charging high prices for low quality product. I went to review the blanket on their site, and while there is a section saying "Be the first to review!" there is actually no link to do so. They seem to have disabled feedback. I won't be purchasing from this company again - they seem very shady.
Misrepresentation of products, horrible customer service, and ridiculous restocking fees. Too small of a business to care about the customer.
Ordered a carpet from The Citizenry and received it today. My husband & I were shocked at how it was packaged. Rolled up thrown into a box, not wrapped in anything, zero protection. Box was damaged so its a miracle that the carpet was not damaged. Total lack of care or attention paid. Will never order from them again.
Like another reviewer, my fitted sheet pilled significantly and ripped after 7 months of use.
Have contacted the company, we'll see, but I'm not optimistic. Even if they make it right for me on this one, I would still stay away from these sheets at all costs. Not worth it.
Very poor quality. The buttons on the duvet just kept coming off. When I contacted customer service they just offered me $25 to get it fixed myself. Every button on the duvet came off within a few months
Ordered $100 worth of pillow shams (2 to be exact) - Stonewashed Linen Shams - King Set / Sand Strip. Received chocolate color instead. Requested an exchange and mailed back the wrong color (which was received by the company). Company confirmed that they will be sending a replacement in the correct color. A month later, no replacement and no response from support team. Will be filing a credit card charge dispute here shortly.
Be aware, Citizenry is a Facebook Ad driven scam company, fly by night operation. If you are looking for quality linen bedding, try Parachute or hundreds of others out there who are legitimate. Stay away from Citizenry.
07/16/2020 Update on the below review - I received a follow-up email from The Citizenry Customer Experience Manager, Leslie, who addressed my questions and clarified that product reviews are processed in batches, which is why my review hasn't appeared yet. Leslie also issued a gift voucher for the sheets and apologized for my experience. This was a satisfactory resolution and has renewed my trust in the company.
Original review:
I purchased the graphite stripe stonewashed linen sheet set from The Citizenry on November 26th 2018 (order #45452) and began using the sheets when I returned home to Canada at the beginning of 2020 after having spent a year working abroad.
A few weeks ago I started to notice large amounts of pilling on the sheets and shortly afterwards I woke up to find a 10" tear in the middle of the fitted sheet. Upon further inspection I could see that a large area, around 30" in diameter, had worn down to near threads which had caused the linen to tear.
I was disappointed to say the least as the sheets had cost me over $300 CAD and a 13 hr drive to the US border to pick them up. I contacted The Citizenry by email and asked if they could recommend a way to repair the sheets and whether they've had any other customers experience the same issue. Candice replied only to notify me that the sheets are outside of their return window and neglected to answer any of my questions. I replied back to clarify that I was not looking for a refund but for guidance on how to repair the sheets so I could use them for longer than 5 months. When I didn't receive a reply from Candice, I decided to review the sheets on The Citizenry website. When submitting my review I received an automatic response informing me that the company would review my submission. A week passed and my review had not been posted to their website, which prompted me to look at other reviews of their products. At that point, I wasn't surprised to see that reviews lower than 4-stars were not published. Now knowing that The Citizenry is hiding honest customer reviews of the products they sell has caused them to lose all credibility in my mind. I would not have spent my money or time on sheets if I hadn't been led to believe they were of high-quality and would last longer than a few months. I ended up buying some linen material and sewing a large patch onto the sheet to try extend its life, but I still feel duped by this company. Given that I know now they're hiding reviews on their website and they're not registered with the BBB, sharing my experience on Trustpilot seemed to be the only option to inform others and hopefully help them avoid a similar situation.
