The adventure itself was excellent but…

The adventure itself was excellent, the team were great and very helpful, with a great sense of humour.

The only downside is the refund of deposits, our race finished in mid January, the refund was made mid March, such a shame it took so long to get the money back as I had hoped to book another trip but this has put me off.

I know some people are still waiting, I would have given 5 stars if it wasn’t for the delay in getting my deposit back.

Adventure(s) of a lifetime

After completing four different versions of the Rickshaw Run, one Monkey Run and the infamous Kraken Cup, I can truly say that each of the Adventurists events have been unforgettable live-events. Not only are they amazingly unique ways to experience the countries and cultures in which they take place, it would be impossible to recreate the collection of characters who participate in them. Some of the people I met on my first Rickshaw Run 10 years ago truly remain some of my closest friends to this day. And the best part is, they always seem to be concocting bizarre new ones. DO IT!

Best thing I ever did (and I’m married with a kid)

Discovering this company is the best thing I have ever done. I’ve completed 3 Rickshaw runs now and, if money and life permitted, I’d do all the adventures the adventurists offer. It’s hard to put into words just how amazing this experience is - please don’t take my word for it, just do it. I promise you won’t regret it!

It’s important to remember that this isn’t a standard high street travel agent and nor does it want to be. It’s a small group of people trying to give you an adventure you will remember for the rest of your life… and the level of support reflects this. All staff are really approachable and help where needed, while also allowing you to craft your own adventure your own way. They are also very reasonable when returning rickshaw deposit and any deductions reflect your adventure.

Love these guys. Did the Sri Lanka run which was life changing. Booked 2020 for India but cancelled due to covid and got full refund. Going to do that next April. Always found them responsive and helpful!

The Greatest Adventures!!

We are 5 x veterans of the Indian Rickshaw Runs (2011 - 2023) and I can honestly say they have been the greatest adventures of our lives!
Of course it is not all smooth sailing - it's India!! and that is what makes this experience so magical.
The Adventurists are a ground-breaking fabulous group of people who provide great parties at the start and finish - and are there if and when you need them.
Just go and do one of these adventures and bring some joy and chaos into your lives!

Adventure Addiction - 7 and counting, go on I D.A.R.E ya

We’re off on our 7th rickshaw run with The Adventurist's, 💯 sick fun! We’ve circumnavigated India, up the Himalaya twice, through Kashmir and compass points of Sri Lanka. Pure freedom to explore in an unconventional manner, connecting to locals in ways you’ll never imagine. This company won’t molly coddle you, some folk have problems for every solution in life, helps to be a grown up, party at the start, party at the finish, life happens in between - those complaining here because of refund time lines probably appropriately self eliminated pre run. Have had no issues across multiple adventures. 2014,2015,2016,2017,2018 and 2022. We’re heading back again in April 2025 with 4 tuks of friends. Get in there do it! go On I D.A.R.E ya… decide, act, re-view, EN-JOY

When canseling the Mongol Ralley event…

When canseling the Mongol Ralley event and relanching a very different and significantly more expencive variant they still charge 200£ for refunds. I feel misled as they still until very late stage was "trying" to arrange the original ralley even tho there was no way of getting there due to global events(war, closed borders etc). Should have done our own research before hand and saved us 200£. This is not what I expect of an operator thats supposed to be professional. Started to get tired of the wall of text emails with zero information to speak of. No presence in the facebook group they managed for the participants, and we had to relay on other sources for a lot of information. Just plan your own trip and skip this "managed" chaos.

Poor Refund Policy

The Adventurists do not have a great cancellation/refund policy when an adventure must be canceled beyond the control of the participants (for instances such as COVID or political instability). Rather than refunding deposits paid, they only offer you to re-book into a future adventure based on current availability...which could be a year or more away. In my specific example, I'm booked for the Oct. 2022 Sri Lanka Rickshaw Run. Sri Lanka is in crisis with no fuel, violent protests, and severe instability. All Western governments advise against any travel to the country and it would be irresponsible to hold the rally in Sri Lanka as they need every drip of fuel to survive. The new PM said these conditions will continue for many month which includes when the Oct. '22 Rickshaw Run will be held. The Adventurists are only offering a 50% refund or the option to move to a different adventure, of which there are none with availability until October 2023. If I were needing to cancel for my own reasons, the 50% refund is more than fair. But, when I have no control of the situation, a full refund (with, say, a 100 Pound admin fee, or similar, in recognition of The Adventurist's effort) would be far more appropriate.
I would think twice before considering booking an adventure with this organization. If you can't be sure that the adventure will proceed as scheduled, know you will likely be out a significant portion of your deposit. I should note that this policy is outlined in the agreement I signed. The agreement does not have a special provision for cancelations made beyond your control. My assertion is that if The Adventurists were concerned for their customers, the ethical thing to do would be to offer a better refund in these rare circumstances.
I should also note that I've been on two adventures with them in the past and they are a blast. My poor review only reflects their handling of deposits and cancellations beyond your control.
