Terrible experience for my wedding

Terrible experience for my wedding. We rented three suits and all three had wrong sizing even though we all went in to get measured. But even worse they rented a black suit instead of navy to one of the groomsmen. Completely incompetent company. I'll never use them again.

Horrible experience

Horrible experience - Be warned - DO NOT USE!

Not only was the overall experience horrible but each time the company screwed up (sent wrong size, sent wrong ship method, etc) they made me purchase another tux and then wait for a refund upon delivery and return. I had to make 3 purchases and get 4 different shipments to get one tuxedo, which did end up fine but certainly not worth the hassle and pure lack of any customer service. You can do better for same price/quality elsewhere.

Never Again

I am NEVER one to write a bad review, but unfortunately, The Black Tux truly disappointed us. We used them for our wedding to dress my husband (the groom) and his groomsmen. We loved the concept of allowing groomsmen to choose between renting or buying a suit, as we understand not everyone can afford a full suit.

However, the stress and disappointment came from how poorly my husband’s suit was handled. The jacket we received did not have the buttons or the cuff detail shown on the website—basic details you would expect from a suit. We immediately contacted customer service, explained that he was the groom and needed to look perfect on our wedding day, and were promised a replacement that would match the online image exactly.

Three days later, the replacement arrived—and it was the exact same jacket, still missing the buttons and cuff detail. We were furious and stressed, especially since the other groomsmen’s jackets were correct. We ended up having to take the jacket to a local tailor to have the sleeves fixed and the buttons added. To make matters worse, the best man’s jacket also arrived without buttons.

While we understand that ordering online can have challenges, we expected better from a company with such a strong reputation. Unfortunately, this experience caused unnecessary stress during our wedding preparations, and we will not be using The Black Tux again.

I should have read the reviews before I…

I should have read the reviews before I decided to do business with this company. I’ll give you the details. I was looking to rent a tuxedo so Google and found black tuxedo. I did my research and based on when I ordered, they said it would take 14 business days so I decided to call and share my situation and told them when my event was. The guy who answered the phone. He was great. He would assured me that I would have my shipment well before my event so I decided to make an appointment and drive hour and a half for a fitting appointment. I then again asked them there just to confirm I would have my shipment prior to my engagement and both of them told me I would have it at least 2 to 3 days prior to that event so I decided to move forward paid and then I get a FedEx that sells a shipment was coming two days after my event so I called to see if this was correct because I had spoken to three other people and all three confirmed I would have it before before my event. But come to find out the information I was given before ordering the tuxedo was wrong. The person on the other end of the phone told me that it would not arrive before my event it would arrive after my event. I decided to ask for a refund. They’ve been told me I would have to wait until they got it rerouted to them. Well, it’s been a week. It has been rerouted and they have yet to process my refund. I would rethink before I would do business with a company like this, and they will not be seeing any business for me in the future.

Beware of scheduling an appointment

Beware of scheduling an appointment. I scheduled one weeks ago and I was flying in from out of state. The day before I receive a half gargled voice mail that my appointment was cancelled. I called back and they said “actually it’s still confirms for tomorrow.” I show up at my appointment…no one shows up. I call and they say there was confusion/they messed up. They could offer me $125 discount for my inconvenience. $125 don’t cover the uber from San Francisco to San Mateo. Terrible coordination. Worse customer service. Amateur hour and almost zero effort to make things right.

There is a $500 fee in dont return it in 5 days

It’s sad to see what has happened to The Black Tux. I’ve used them several times in the past, but like many companies, success clearly went straight to their head. Now they’re charging for “wear and tear”—on a rental. That’s the whole point of renting. You’re already paying for the item to be worn.

And it gets better. If you don’t return it on time, you can be charged over $500. I don’t remember that ever being their policy before, but now they conveniently list all these fees in advance. So for a $170 rental—just pants and a jacket—you’re somehow on the hook for over $700 according to their estimates.

At that point, it’s not a rental, it’s a gamble. Safe to say I won’t be using them again.

5 stars, no notes

Been in countless weddings that have used Black Tux and never once had any issues. Site is easy to use and intuitive. Items come super quick. Return instructions easy to follow. Customer service is incredible and very responsive (appears to be a mix of AI responses and humans, judging by the response times - but the human responses were within 20-30 minutes which is seriously impressive). All around great work, looking forward to using them for my own wedding one day!

I Recommend Looking Elsewhere

I strongly recommend against using The Black Tux, especially for a wedding.

We rented tuxedos for a 14-person wedding party, and nearly half the group experienced issues — including missing items, incorrect sizing, billing errors, website inaccuracies, and last-minute deliveries. While customer service reps were polite, most problems required multiple calls and follow-ups to resolve.

For a service that promises a seamless, low-stress wedding experience, this was the opposite. The groom had no visibility into groomsmen orders, changes confirmed verbally were not reflected online, and some groomsmen did not ultimately receive what they ordered.

Although issues were eventually addressed, it came at the cost of unnecessary stress and time during a once-in-a-lifetime event. Based on our experience — and the company’s response when concerns were raised — I would strongly caution couples to look elsewhere.

Website is hard to navigate

I order two tux with everything. The website was hard to navigate. The 2 tux shirts, 2 pair of studs, and 2 shoes somehow didn’t make the order…all of it was showing in my cart at the time I placed order. I had to end up buying…since I only had one day until event. When the box comes, there is no phone number for assistance. And you have no idea what company sent you the tux.
Will likely be buying own tux to avoid this.

I even was given this company by a family member.

I would not rent from here again. Nordstroms should pull the department

We went to Nordstrom to to measure my son. They shipped the wrong size after he was measured and tried on a TUX . It shipped out 2 weeks prior. But they promised a replacement in 3 days ... The replacement came GROUND not as promised. Then that jacket was also too tight. I did business with Black TUX because they were associated with Nordstoms. But when I got there... it was clear from the Dress code ( sloppy t-shirts etc) that it was not a Nordstroms experience. This situation was too much with a wedding ! I had to end up PURCHASING a Tux for my son. It was a lot of Anxiety. I would never do this again. We are shipping the tux back and they say they will give us a refund. But SAVE yourself the trouble. Just because THEY measure you does not mean the staff members know what they are doing.. The suit selection is nice. Its just not worth it if they cant do a fitting right.

Do not buy a suit from this company

I purchased a suit using my existing coat and pant size (actually ordering my pants a size higher). I received the order but did not try the suit on until 10 days after receiving it.

It did not fit.

It was then I discovered that The Black Tuxes does not accept returns/exchanges on purchased suits. I would be required to purchase a new suit and then return the old one.

So I am clear: if you buy a suit from the Black Tux you can not return it. You can only exchange it if you buy a new one and then return the first purchase.

No return policy? Civil words cannot express my frustration and disappointment.

If I could rate lower I would

If I could rate lower I would. The beginning of the experience was great almost like it was to perfect. We scheduled our tuxes way ahead to prevent any issues… or so so thought. I ordered the tuxes for my groomsmen and myself and they all did eventually come in. One of my groomsmen they sent the wrong pants completely and shoe size as well. I thought maybe my groomsmen gave them the wrong size, no that was not it. They shipped him someone else’s order…. Oh this all happened on the day of the wedding when I needed him at the wedding for pictures!!!! This isn’t even the worst part, after returning the tuxes in the time window I was randomly charged $60 for a late fee. I checked all the tuxes and confirmed they were returned in the time slot and I had to reach out to support who just said oh sorry here is your return? Like thanks but why am I randomly getting charged with no notification or indication of why when I clearing returned it?

But it gets worse!!! 20 days go by and now I owe $506, what for you might ask? I am still wondering that myself. I did some research and it looks like this has been happening to others this month of October 2025 where some how there is “damage” and the damage protection we bought was just another “fee” and not protection for the actual tux. So here I am now having to work with support to deal with another unfair charge for my tuxes that were perfectly fine. This experience was the worst and I would save you the trouble with everything and just go somewhere else, this place is greedy, horrible, shady, and unethical.

Terrible quality

Terrible quality as far as clothing fabrics. This was a bad experience all around, resulting in a damaged shirt, and an extremely wrinkled tux and a partial refund, not to mention a ruined event. 15.00 for dry cleaning (pressing) is not sufficient for anything and clear or meaningful resolution. I would not recommend the service to anyone.

The Black Tux service is sub par at…

The Black Tux service is sub par at best. Our son was fitted to purchase a new tux for his wedding. They sent the wrong size jacket originally. We could not reach anyone on their 800 customer service line so we had to return to the store 30 minutes away. They noted they did send the wrong jacket and resent the correct one. Then all 9 groomsmen drove/flew in for a fitting scheduled at Woodlands TX location and upon arrival Sunday 11AM they were told that the BT Rep was out and they would need to re-schedule fitting. This was a HUGE inconvenience for those from out of town. The entire party had to disperse to various tux rental stores (Men's Wearhouse, Squires, etc) to find a matching tux. Then we went back into the store to purchase another white tux shirt and were told that the previous one we ordered was no longer in circulation so they sent a different one. Upon trying it on 3 days prior to wedding we found it was not the shirt we ordered (needed convertible shirt for button studs), it was just a generic cotton dress shirt ($90). I typically write reviews to praise service and thank companies. I would not recommend or use BT, there are other options.

DO NOT USE THE BLACK TUX!!!!

DO NOT USE THE BLACK TUX. Just about EVERYTHING that could go wrong with this company did go wrong. They messed up my initial order and I had to create a new account to get the order correct instead of just fixing it. Then communication with their support was the most dreadful experience ever. Not one person could speak understandable English. They repeatedly told me I had no order placed with them even after I received the tuxes, which were INCORRECT. None of us matched. I even paid an additional $80 to extend the return date and they had the audacity to charge me and my groomsmen the full price of the tuxes after they were returned. So now I have no tuxedo and a $500+ bill. Worst company I’ve ever had the misfortune to deal with.

Terrible experience - never again

Terrible experience. Ordered numerous accessories for a wedding. Was assured 4x that they would ship and be delivered. Yet they couldn’t provide any shipping details, just an assurance. My deadline was yesterday and items have still not arrived.

Don't waste your money

Don't waste your money! My daughter is getting married next week. Her fiance ordered tuxes from The Black Tux. My husband's, and two sons' tuxes came last week....so wrinkled! The directions say to hang it and the wrinkles will come out after a few days. That's a lie! They are not only wrinkled but made from cheap fabric. My husband had to steam his tux as well as one of my son's tuxes. My other son sent his to the dry cleaners to press. (The Black Tux said they will reimburse him $15.) Also, one of my sons didn't receive the black button covers, though they are sending them. My husband's pants looked like they were made for a clown. He sent those back for the slim cut, though he's not slim. Who needs this hassle when they have a wedding coming? We live in Cincinnati. Last October, our son got married, he ordered his tuxes from Folchis, a company here in Cinci. His wedding was in St Louis. My husband and I picked up 6 tuxes from Folchis before we left here. All 6 were of fine material, pressed perfectly, everything fit all 6 of the guys perfectly. The process was seamless. Oh, and it was a bit cheaper from the local company, which is beside the point. Though the groom gets his tux for free from The Black Tux...it's still not worth it!! So, don't rent from The Black Tux. I am sure they will be out of business in a year. You can't cheat people and be successful! PS: I never write reviews. But I hope to spare others from this happening to them.

⭐ 1 Star

⭐ 1 Star – Absolutely Unacceptable Experience
If you're looking for a reliable suit rental company for a major life event—look elsewhere. This company had over two months to get things right, and they still managed to completely botch my order.
First, they never sent the correct-sized pants, despite repeated confirmations and plenty of time to fix their error. Then, they sent the wrong-sized jacket, and only managed to send a replacement a mere two days before the wedding—talk about cutting it unacceptably close for something this important.
And to top it all off? They had the nerve to charge me a late return fee, even though FedEx confirmed the items were received on the date specified by the vendor themselves. Either they're disorganized beyond belief or willfully dishonest.
Between the poor communication, the constant sizing screw-ups, and the shady billing practices, I wouldn't trust this company with a Halloween costume—let alone something as important as a wedding.
Save yourself the stress. Rent from literally anyone else.
